A book store in Shanghai for a demanding English book reader
I have a friend who moved from US to Shanghai recently. He has wide-ranging reading interests. He is looking for books in English for him to buy or borrow or exchange to read.

Do you have any idea about English book stores in Shanghai? Or other source?

上海二手外文书店地图

for Timeout Shanghai (2009/2)

数年前，盛泽路89号的外文旧书店曾是我每周必逛之处。店堂不大，仅十数平方，书却铺天盖地，且好书甚多，每每都有收获。门口好吃的油墩子和炸猪排也是附加的诱惑，可惜两年前，该店因隧道工程歇业。

幸好，靠近福州路的外文图书公司山西路门市部至今还“健在”，仍是上海购买二手外文书的首选之地。除了日文书种类颇丰外，外文杂志过刊是其另一大特色，新闻类的《Time》、法意版本的《Vogue》、设计类的《Wallpaper》和《i-D》都能在这里找到。英文小说占满了三个书架，每一排放两层，颇为密集。有一次我随手买下一本Mike Gayle的《My Legendary Girlfriend》，回家后发现书中竟然夹着一张87年旧照，照片上一位金发男子穿着蓝色比基尼和短裤，作健美肌肉男状……我还曾找到一本曾获布克奖的澳洲作家Thomas Keneally的签名本，扉页上写着“To Feifei, a friend in Shanghai”。许多二手书背后，大概都有一个故事，淘二手书的部分乐趣，便在于此。

假如你住在复旦和同济附近，那么不妨去逛逛位于国权路311号的申东外语书店。那里每个书架都有一个主题：社科类、文学类、传记类、生活类、艺术类等，另有专售法、意、德等小语种外文书的专区。我曾在那儿买到过不少企鹅出版的著名文学杂志书《Granta》，及市面上少见的特吕弗传记等。申东同时提供网上售书服务（www.258sd.cn），目前登录...相当合理。

和申东一样，“原版图书大本营”（www.kongfz.com/star/10869...进行建议。

在上海要买二手外文书，还可以去一些特价书店。如来福士广场对面的和古籍书店三楼的特价书店都有外文书专柜，假如最近前往，可以买到崭新的John Updike、Pat Barker和Aleksandar Hemon等，一律20-30块，算是相当便宜了。

每周日开放的文庙书市里，也有一两个专门售卖原版书的书摊，以设计、广告和艺术类为主，在这里淘书，你一定要忘记外文书店里的标价，大胆地讨价还价。最后不得不提的是，出门右转的文庙路上的小店里，有超好吃的咸肉菜饭和黄豆骨头汤，不容错过。
