Character Information
Name: Adara of Coa’s Wood
Gender: Female
Age/Birthdate: 14. November 29, 416 H.E.(Midwinter)
Position: Student of the Convent, young eligible noblewoman
Location: Mother of the Mountains Convent
Personality: Adara is a pleasant, docile girl. She adores the convent, and wants nothing more than to make her family happy. She is very obliging-almost too obliging in many cases- and loves to help people. She would be generally described as a kind, considerate person. You could throw in a couple other adjectives, such as placid, tame, and boring, and the statement would still be perfectly true.
She lives for her friends and family, and could not imagine life without others. She can be independent with small activities, such as with her one main passion, embroidery, and cooking, cleaning, etc., but overall requests assistance. It is not necessarily because she is too silly or foolish to complete the task, but because she hates being alone. She is overall rather too dependant on others and could use some more spirit.
She has no temper to speak of. Adara is easy-going, gentle and patient with all. She loves children and animals, and they usually cling to her because of her forgiving and comforting nature. When confronted in a situation where somebody speaks out a bit too violently for her liking, she simply uses the standard tactic for avoiding unpleasant confrontations: smile and nod. Adara has an imagination, but can rarely apply it to real life to make some situations appear more pleasant. She prefers to sit quietly in her room, reading a book, and imagining the setting and/or characters than to inject imagination into real life setting and people. She is simply pathetic at any kind of acting, only because of this simple idea that it is quite improper to imagine things.
Adara has an interesting sense of humour. She often finds things funny, but is afraid to emit giggles when certain “vulgar” statements are made. By our standard nowadays, these comments could be freely expressed at the dinner table without any chastisement. She is one of those who finds humour in almost anything, whether it is humorous or not, however, her anxiousness for preserving the feelings of others prevents her from laughing at remarks such as: “My leg hurts.” Or, in extreme situations: “My mother died.”
Seemingly contrary to all previous remarks, Adara is somewhat intelligent. Her intelligence can be expressed with this quotation: “Book smart and life dumb.” She can learn well enough, and has a special knack for mathematics. Her academic stumbling block would be English and Languages, which she tolerates because her mother wishes her to learn “the noble art.”
Background: Adara was born in Coa’s Wood on November 29, 416 H.E. Coa’s Wood is a relatively obscure settlement on the West side of Tortall. It has a population of about 150 people, most of whom are fishermen or farmers. Around the village and fief (which is placed on the coast of a lake) there is a huge forest, that was named Coa after an ancient ancestor of Adara’s who founded the village and was granted a place as nobleman for his work. On the outskirts of the forest, which spans for about 1 kilometre around the village and lake, there are about 20 farms, which provide the food for the village and some hamlets in the surrounding area.
She grew up as a happy child, and had by all standards, a happy childhood. She was brought up as any Tortallan noble woman should be, learning to embroider, sew, sing and dance at a young age. In her spare time she played princess and dragon with her mother’s maid’s daughter and other servant’s children. She was taught from an early age that she would have to be brought up and married off to a rich noble man, which she always heartily accepted as her fate.
When she was 11, her parents debated sending her off to the convent, but it was decided that she should be taken to be “brought out” in high-class Tortallan society so that she would not remain an obscure personage at a convent until she was “too old to marry”. When she was 12, her parents took her to a ball at the royal place, where she met and cultivated the acquaintance of several eligible young men.
Her parents then decided that she had had enough gallivanting about and packed her off to the Convent, where she has lived in peace and serenity for a year. Adara adores every thing about it. The fact that she is appeasing her dear parent’s wishes of course, is high on the list, among learning more lady-like skills, being around other young ladies and enjoying the peace and quiet of the solitary retreat.
Physical Appearance: Adara comes from a long line of ebony-haired, fair-skinned, brown-eyed ancestors. Her hair, which her mother has requested she grow long, now reaches her ankles when let loose, but is most often done up into a simple high knot at the back of her head. Her hair is an inky, ebony black colour, and is often described as her best feature by friends, when they notice the way the light shines of it’s surface and the softness of the curls, which flip outwards at the ends and tease around her face. Her skin is pale and smooth, contrasting strikingly with her black hair, eyebrows and deep brown eyes. On her softly upturned nose, there is a thin skin coloured scar that was acquired when she knocked her face against a table when she was 3 years old.
Her eyes are in a long, oval shape, be comparable to a spilt almond. They are a deep, muddy brown, with tiny clouds of a lighter brown swirling in and out of the dark brown, creating the effect of a mud pond with the waters stirred back and forth. Her wide mouth is a pale, pale pink colour and her plump lips naturally curve up at the sides.
Her figure is well curved and she has ample bust and hips, despite the fact that she is fairly active in terms of daily walk in the garden, etc. She can hold her own sport wise along with other girls and is active enough to keep “respectably” slim. There are many standards in the Royal Court, of course, which her family feels she must keep up to.
Strong Points: As has been previously mentioned, Adara is adept in several things, most notably embroidery, weaving, singing and mathematics. Children typically adore her and she loves them . She has a dream to become mistress of a fine household and have 6 children. She has an excellent taste for dress, and often is the victim of enquiries about “Where did you get that darling gown? I must have that fabric!”
Weaknesses: Adara is, as was mentioned, is rather too obliging and a bit feather-brained at times. She has a weakness for marzipan and adores vanilla cake, which her parents shun as “despicable”, and won’t allow in the household. She is not nearly as proficient in English and Languages as Mathematics, and often attains quite low marks in that subject. She can be a bit slow to recognize a joke or a new concept in a class, and that is the fault which earns her the “feather-brained” title.
Magic: Adara has a very small Gift. She is capable only of doing small tasks, such as threading needles and lighting candles, and even that takes alot of time and a lot of energy and she is forced to rest for several minutes before being able to perform another tasks. Her miniscule Gift is a light gold colour tinted with pink flame around the edges.
Pets: Adara has no pets currently, but would like to purchase either a kitten or a tame bird of some sort.
Sample Post: Adara smoothed out her dress and once again picked up her embroidery. Today it was a dark red velvet gown with a low silver bordered scoop neck and a pleated pink petticoat. Adara diligently examined her pattern, a dove flying through a garden with an olive branch in it’s beak. She picked up a wooden spool of green thread and cut off an arms length of green thread. Gently slipping the needle out of it’s silk pincushion lying on the table in front of her, she held the thread inches away from the needle and squeezed her eyes shut, determined to at last master the simple spell that would thread the needle quickly and efficiently.
Adara took a deep meditating breath and concentrated hard, picturing in her mind the thread going through the needle, suspended in the air by her own mind-power. A brief goldy-pink light flared around the needle and thread, and ever so slowly it started to move forward, inserting itself into the eye of the needle. The thread came out the other end and Adara grabbed it to pull it through. Feeling her miniscule reserve of magic already draining from this simple task, Adara laid down the threaded needle and gently patted her perspiring brow with a silk handkerchief.
“I must learn to do that spell more easily.” She mumbled to herself, looking out the window into the flower garden. “I simply cannot go on without being able to perform such a simple task…” Without saying another word, she picked up the needle and poked it into the fabric.

Re: Adara of Coa's Wood
LMAO lol that reminds me of the movie 'Bless the Child'. An old lady (I think I've told you this before) pokes blunt knitting needles through a man's eyeballs. The odl lady was extremely evil.
