Character Information
Name: Annika "Ann" Marie Cross
Age: 17
Appearance:
Gravity stopped Annika at about a height of 5 feet 3 inches. She's regretted being from a short family since. Being a short person hasn't been comepletely bad for Annika in the long run, but she hasn't enjoyed it all the same. Annika's thin, though not like the toothpick girls this day in age seem to think they need to be. Annika's hair is a dark blond in natural color and chopped in layers to come just short of her shoulders. She enjoys flipping then ends out for a child-like innocent look to her or leaving it in it's naturally wavy state. Annika's eyes are a dull green and very rarely show much emotion unless it's extreme. Annika's face is thin and sports high cheekbones and full lips for a young age. Annika tends to wear black liner about her eyes to bring them out over any other feature. Her fingers are long and calloused at the ends from her guitar, though, Annika doesn't seem to care of notice.
Personality:
Annika is one of those people that keeps to herself and would rather not speak her mind. She's a chatterbox when put in the right situation or given something she knows quite a bit about, but does just as well by herself. Annika tends to not open up to people or drop her little facade unless caught completely off guard. Annika has a mischievous streak to match another and can sweet talk (or BS) her way out of nearly any type of trouble she could find herself in. It's been said that she's too quiet and subdued to do anything truely worthy of praise. Ann's love for reading is all that surpasses her quiet self. When free time comes upon her, Annika is reading. She's quick to finish her work and does have a hardtime letting it go. She's a perfectionist at heart and does well in her work.
Annika doesn't believe in love or true love even, only advantages in a person and what they can do for her. She's really all talk when it comes to her sexuality, taking jokes a bit too far sometimes, even to a point where she'll tease, but Annika (contrary to some belief) is still a virgin and plans to stay that way. She's corrupted herself and doesn't need help from anyone else.
The real Annika under the quiet is a sweet tempered girl just looking for someone to help her from her slump. Though she tends to give a look of being older then she is, Annika is a very little girl at heart, looking for someone to understand her, and possibly even love her in return. Annika forced herself to stray from trusting people, her best friend is herself. While she may seem vain, she's not and really down to earth if only someone can get to her.
Phobias/Fears: Herself, being plain and simple. Annika is scared of herself and turning into what her mother was. Defenseless, weak, humiliated, mocked upon who resorted to the most selfish way out of a situation in Annika's eyes. Annika has promised herself to never let herself slip that far into unhappiness to think she needs to commit suicide to help herself.
Hobbies/Interests: Annika loves to sing, surprisingly. Annika has a mellow Saprano voice that glides around her range of a first Alto to a first Saprano. She hasn't ever had lessons and found music to be her love. Annika also loves her guitar and when trying to console herself is usually in a secluded place strumming on the 6 string acustic model.
Good/Bad Habits: Annika is quick to jump to conclusions and takes things for face value. While she's judgemental, she's a quick thinker. Some of her ideas may seem out there and odd, but she'll tend to find a way to make them work.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Annika has a big weakness and it's her own self. While she can seem jaded, she's only looking for someone to relate to and who can understand. She may be taken for at first glance as living-on-the-edge, laid back and easy tease, Annika's one weakness is herself. She's a human under the shell, and sometimes that scares the hell out of her.
Family:
Parents: Emerson and Marie King Cross; Emerson is a graduate of Merlin Academy for boys while Marie came from Salem Istitute for girls.
Biological Father: Ted Franklin Joaneson
Sibling: Elder sister; Charlotte Christine Cross; age 21. Attended Hogwarts, graduated in 92 from Slytherin house, lives in New York with her fiance.
Grandparents and Guardians: (Emerson's parents) Jonathon and Loren Cross.
History:
Emerson and Marie married for the sake to marry. Both Emerson and Marie coming from bright, rich families, they just pretty plain and simply, didn't want to marry. Married in New York City, New York in December, Marie dragged her feet the whole way. It wouldn't be until her children came along that she'd admit, or the thought even cross her mind that she might have loved Emerson if given the chance.
Marie and Emerson moved to London a year after their wedding to be closer to Emerson's parents. Marie conceived there in London, and gave birth a month prematurely to her first daughter: Charlotte. Things still didn't change between Marie and Emerson and their relationship. They fought, argued, Emerson in more then one jealous rage hit his wife. To get away for a while, Marie left London to return to New York to stay with some of her old school friends there. That's where Annika comes in.
While with her best friend out on the town one night, Marie found herself offered a deal on a silver plate that she found very hard to turn down. To say the least, she didn't. She thought of it being her way of teaching Emerson his lesson, and, for the first time: Marie felt loved for who she was. Marie returned to London two weeks later without another look back.
Annika was born without any suspecion from Emerson. Born into a family that was crumbling and falling apart at the seams, and born to be left alone.
Things between Emerson and Marie did not get any better at all. Maybe Marie should have tired to stop him from leaving that night, but she didn't. When Annika was about 2, Emerson left in a rage, said he'd never return. He was right that he wouldn't. While out in muggle London, stumbling around drunk, Emerson was hit by a drunk driver (ironically) and killed instantly.
Emerson's death hit the little family worse then anyone could have imagined. Marie slumped into a depression and the two girls taken by her widower's parents to care for. Marie was in a steep and fast decline, and everyone seemed to know it. She lost her job with the Ministry rather quickly because of her absense to work, her children were living with her in-laws and she hadn't need to care for them - It was then that Marie realized something when it was far too late. She had loved Emerson, despite everything.
A year after Emerson's accidental death, Marie left London again for New York, leaving her 6 and 3 year old daughters alone in the world. Left for their grandparents to care for, but no father and a mother too far away to comprehend takes a toll on young lives after a while. It certainly took a toll on Annika. Annika turned from the sweet little girl to the centered child we see today fairly quickly. Her sister Charlotte would blame their father's death and their lack of a mother on little Annika, leaving her to cry over it every time.Annika finally had enough at age 8 of Charlotte's taunting and in a sudden burst of anger, smashed the vases in the sitting room where they stood arguing.
After Annika's revealing of magical talent, like it was ever doubted she wouldn't be like her parents, Annika was left alone for the most part. Though, she did start believing Charlotte. Annika lived and dwelled on the idea for years and when she was accepted to Hogwarts, was pleased it was her sister's final year. Annika's worked hard her previous years at Hogwarts, now ready to be done with it. Annika has started recieving correspondence from her mother in the last few weeks of the summer, asking if Annika would come see her. Annika has yet to respond to any of the pleas, not sure what to do quite yet.
Wand Type: 14 inches, Oak, Phoenix tailfeather core
Blood Type: Pureblood
Year: 7th
Which house would your character prefer? Ravenclaw
Why? Annika is quite an interesting person. She's perceptive and an individualist, but very reserved in the way she approaches it. She's work oriented and considers herself intelligent from studies. She takes quick to lessons and learning, aquiring knowledge best on her own.
Sample Role-Play:
Brushing hair from her face, Annika finished the large staircase with quick feet. Her robes billowed behind her as she walked leasurely, the only thing running through the blond's head at this moment being the want
to get out of the castle. The walls of the castle had become too stuffy for Annika's liking and it'd become hard to breath. She wanted fresh air, quiet, and the chance to be alone.
It's Hogwarts though, one was never completely alone, were they? Well then, Annika would be as alone as one could manage in these walls.
She'd go outside.
Annika didn't stop as lightning made its self present out the window of the hall she walked. Thunder boomed from overhead and the blond only smiled. The rain would be coming soon and she wanted to be there. Ann's green eyes brightened as she broght an arm over her chest and her opposite hand went to her wrisst. Her nimble fingers played there for only a moment before the button came undone and the sleeve fell loosely to her wrist. Again with the other and then she reached for her tie. Green and striped in silver, she needed it gone or loose. That only took another moment until the offending article would have earned her some points away from her own house. That was fine. She could spare some.
Annika pushed the door she'd reached open and cleared the thresh hold in a long step. The rain had started pounding the ground mercilessly not only moment before Annika got out. Kicking off her black Mary-Jane's, Annika stepped out onto the drenched grass of the grounds, the rain starting it's assault on her. Ann let a smile slide across her face easily while the water started running down her body, pulling all care from her. Her arms came out to her sides, straight out as she spun with her face upturned to the grey heavens above. She wouldn't be dry for long.
