Any thoughts Bob?
Well maybe the board's not dead after all......
Let me bounce this one off you Bob (or anyone else out there). Yesterday I put that Starcraft I bartered with my client in the water, and experienced some problems with the engine. Its a 1988 Johnson 20 hp that had basically sat garaged for 2 years. After running at top speed, when I slow down and try to put it in neutral, the engine will cut out, and I find that I typically can't crank her up again for 5 minutes or so. Needless to say, this has caused problems when docking, as I can't typically throw it into reverse without it quitting. Also, when running at top speed, on a couple of occasions, the engine just cut out. This has not been a problem so far at slower speeds. Lastly, and I think totally unrelated, there appears to be some slippage with the prop if I power up too fast, or I hit some rougher water. The engine stays in a high rev, but I lose power. Any thoughts about these issues? It seems that the first 2 problems are concerned with fuel delivery, and may just be a matter of a carb adjustment (I hope), but this is not exactly my area of expertise.
Sorry Drew, I'm mechanically ignorant. Hopefully someone will offer some suggestions, but you might want to post on BFHP's motor board. That board has a ton of people to draw from, so you will probably get some answers. Hope to be picking up my Lund the first part of this week. Met down at the boat yard yesterday to witness a compression test on the Suzuki 150 and everything checked out great. Just hope the weather doesn't suddenly turn wintery on me, I want to get out most of November to get the feel for the boat and make my list of winter projects.
Tight lines and hopefully we can get together yet this year.
what do you call this weather?
Hopefully the weather won't turn wintery? I suppose you weren't hit by the gale from hell yesterday then? I can't remember seeing it blow like that, and I'm sure with the cold temps that came with it, the fishing will go to hell for at least a couple of days. I actually went out in the morning before it got too bad, but it was no place to be with a balky engine.
I'll try the BFHP board with my question. I'll have bells on if you want to give your new rig a spin before the real cold stuff comes up.
