~About Your Character~

What is your character's full name? Anlicnes Schellden

Character's Age? 34

Give a detailed physical description of your character:

The first thing a person would notice about Anlicnes is her alabaster-white skin, though not albino in nature, definitely looks as though a large amount of blood were drained from it. This is stretched over frail bones that obviously never got much in the way of calcium for an overall near-anorexic figure. Long, spidery fingers are attached to large hands, which is respectable considering she is a rather large woman of 5’9 and 137 lbs. Anlicnes bears a small chest accompanied by a stomach with ribs that are quite visible when the area can be seen. Gracefully curving shoulders and waist give way to thin, un-muscular arms and legs with bony joints.

A long face-shape, with high cheekbones and little color describes Anlicnes, along with the occasional dark circles under ice blue, very large and heavily-lidded eyes. These eyes often have a slightly sinister appearance, that can frighten students when she gives them what society today refers to as “the look.” A long and large nose is set between the two far-set eyes, though it does not have the common crow-like hooked style to it, more of a gentle, down-curving one. A pale peach set of thin lips often lie drawn in a straight line, over Anlicnes’ unclefted chin. Slightly large ears lay somewhat flat against her head, which is topped with fine, pale-gold hair. This hair is curly and has a somewhat messy look about it, parted on the left with black roots that hint at having been colored somewhat. There is no widow’s peak, only a low forehead that has no fringe of bangs visible, having never been there to begin with.

Describe his/her personality - including fears, hobbies, interests, habits, strengths & weaknesses:

With her history, some of Anlicnes’ personality is understandable, while some of her personality makes the history understandable in return. Having been adored and spoiled as a child, she became demanding, always wanting her way and knowing exactly how to get it. As she grew, these ways did not seem as hurtful as they would eventually become, they seemed merely ambitious and hardworking. Many believed she was headed for Ravenclaw, a house her parents and elder sister saw befitting of her. Whence it proved that Slytherin was her home, and her family began to distance her, Anlicnes picked up many unfriendly attributes about her. She became cruel and manipulative, picking on her peers and developing friends that she sought to benefit from. If they weren’t going to help her, what was the point in having them? These are also her current views on men and dating, and so she, unsurprisingly, has remained single.

Anlicnes is very practical, and has loathed such practices as Divination since discovering them. Everything, even magical things, have a practical explanation in her views, however odd and uncommon it may be. This may be one of the reasons she excelled in subjects like History of Magic and Arithmancy, and why she failed miserably in the said Divination. Or perhaps it was just her interest and lack of interest in those subjects. She has a habit of picking on those who do not share her beliefs, and shunning outright those who claim to have “the eye.” Besides the practicality, there is ambition and a hard working spirit within her, being that the professor wants to achieve greater status constantly. Even if she does not realize it, this is a subconscious wish to retrieve the love her parents lost for her upon entering Slytherin. This woman always seems to have a chip on her shoulder, and though she will deny it, you will be able to even hear it in her spiteful voice.

Favoring no house, not even her own, Anlicnes is fair and just, but can pick favorites based upon how reminiscent and akin a person is to herself. For example, a student with practicality and a hardworking personality is much more likely to gain her respect or favoritism than even Dumbledore himself, whom though she respects for his defeat of the Dark Lord, Anlicnes despises him for his “foolish ways.” When she feels someone is insubordinate, or otherwise displeasing, she will tell it to their face, which occasionally results in trouble. Willing to spread rumors to accomplish her goals, she is quite manipulative, and does not hesitate to be cruel or nasty to any given someone.

One of the biggest fears Anlicnes has is to be surpassed again by her sister, whom though she has settled down, is still cause for concern in the professor’s psyche. She will deny anything relatively close to the true fear, but everything she does is always done 110% in order to ensure that there is no way she can be written as anything less then her sister. Another of her deep fears is that everything she has built for herself might collapse, and so she will do everything in her power to see to it that there is no reason to fire her from her teaching position. If this means manipulation, cruelty, or doing anything anyone else might see as abominable, then Anlicnes cares not and will resort to it. It is hypocritical of her, it seems, because she disdains those who stoop to low levels, even though she herself has done it before.

Among the hobbies of this woman are reading, teaching, and extracting gossip from anyone she can. Reading, Professor Schellden has found, lulls the mind into a state of melancholy, providing for decreased senses and the ability to forget about stress for a period of time. This is a feeling Anlicnes enjoys, and prefers to maintain, snapping at those who interrupt her. Even if the students do not seem to notice, teaching is one of her passions, something she has aspired to since becoming a student. Her former Head of House has become something of a role model in the eyes of Anlicnes, and her teaching position reflects that. She also seems to enjoy the power she has as a staff member, a dominance over her students that she had at the ministry, and even over other students in her first Hogwarts Days. This power feeds her own ego, and helps to substitute for a longing of power over her sister and parents, and all those who she felt made her suffer. The extracting of gossip from students and staff is more of a hobby that stems from a small desire to manipulate for sport that she developed as a Hogwarts Student. Anlicnes enjoys making her victims unconsciously feed her information that may or may not apply to her. Often she stores it in her mind for possible blackmail opportunities later.

Special strengths of Professor Schellden include her ability to manipulate and work hard to achieve her goals and dreams. Besides this, Anlicnes has an uncanny ability to instill fear into her students through a consistent air of dominance she carries, as well as through the iciness of her eyes. The teacher is aware of all these qualities and uses them to the best of her ability. She has a bit of charisma, which she can turn on at a given time to help her find friends in high places or to get just what she wants out of a person, be it student or adult. Then again, Anlicnes has a weakness in that, if you even so much as mention her sister, that her temper will flare up, and none of the rules of her personality will seem to apply anymore. Her charm has a weakness as well, in that, if you are similar to her in personality, it is blatantly easy to see through it. Anlicnes makes no TRUE friends, and the best you are lucky to get out of her is respect, meaning that most people are not willing to help her out in a difficult situation, incurring unwanted stress that she actually brings upon herself.

Explain his/her history:

Born to a pair of wizard parents, and having a witch for an older sister, there was never any doubt in the mind of that household that the newborn, Anlicnes, was going to be any different. They were correct. The little girl grew up with magic in her blood, in a small town in Devonshire, England. Much of her childhood was normal, with no angst-filled loss of family or friends. When her older sister began Hogwarts, Anlicnes came with the family to the station. There, she saw the Hogwarts Express for the first time, and was amazed by it, finding that she very much was eager to attend.

Eventually she was sent to Hogwarts too, where, much to the surprise of her parents, Anlicnes entered the house of Slytherin. Having had a Gryffindor father and a Hufflepuff mother, the two feared their child was corrupt and began to detach themselves from her slightly. The elder sister, Martha, was a Gryffindor, and was doted upon by both parents, sparking an early sibling rivalry that led to eventual hate on Anlicnes’ part. She’d had ambition unlike any before to become better then her sister, only increasing her willingness to be cruel and manipulative to earn parental respect.

The Snake eventually grew to become a bully, picking on the younger years and flaunting her ability to hurt them without remorse. What had once been for earnest ambition was now done for sport and fun. Anlicnes looked up to her Head of House, and idolized him, wanting indeed to be a teacher as well. In her fifth, sixth, and seventh years she attained Prefect status, though she missed the mark of Head Girl she’d strived for. It was just another on the list of things she couldn’t do better then Martha, who had been Head Girl in her time.

Once she’d exited Hogwarts, Anlicnes went on to a university in northern England, Honeyglass Academy for History and Arithmancy, where she studied the more factual aspects of magic. The respect for complexity of wizarding history and numbers made her all the more of a hard worker with them. During this time, the attacks of the Dark Lord began, and all though she was as frightened by him as any, the young woman also developed a respect for him. Once his fall at the hands of a baby occurred, however, she forgot mostly all about Voldemort and the Death Eaters, and went on with her studies. Upon graduating, Anlicnes had received a degree in Arithmancy, and took this degree to the ministry, where she worked for seven years as a code breaker.

These skills proved invaluable, because such intelligent and logical people were becoming difficult to find. As such, the department in which she worked was rather small, but still an efficient group of hard workers. Feeling she had finally found her niche in wizarding society, in something she was better at then her sister, who had gone off to start a potions store in Germany, Anlicnes settled into her job. Here, her attitude from her Slytherin days would return whenever a worker slacked off on duty, the manipulation coming in handy when she wanted better jobs from her superiors. Fellow workers often grew uneasy around her, fearing she’d snap at any moment behind her cool exterior.

During her time as a code breaker, Anlicnes saw the Dark Lord begin to rise again, which excited a part of her. He was regaining his glory, and in doing so regained her respect. Sometimes during work hours she’d toy with the idea of following, despite working somewhat against him in her field. Eventually she dismissed the idea, though it still has it’s own spot in her head. Coworkers could see a change in Anlicnes…snapping was more frequent, and she often was harsh on those under her. Despite complaints of verbal abuse, the ministry would not fire her because of the skill level she had.

Eventually, Anlicnes got word of an open position for Arithmancy instructor at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. It seemed as though the former Professor Vector had gone and found herself a husband, and was off abroad with him in Brazil. This had been the opportunity she’d been searching for…a teaching position at Hogwarts, just like her former Head of House! The Once-Slytherin made it a point to apply, and because of her skill, she got the job. Anlicnes is living her dream right now, though some of her old ways still show through in her teaching life.

Blood Type: Halfblood (She had wizarding parents, but the rest of her lineage is all mixed in with muggles)
Wand Type: 11-inch, birch, dragon heartstring core

Give an example of your role-playing:

Professor Schellden strode into the room, piercing eyes cast forward, carrying an awe that dared a student to make a sarcastic notion about her. Stepping up on her podium, upon which an old oak desk rested, supported under one leg by an unused textbook, she flipped open her textbook with a loud thud.

“Turn to page 743.” The orders were clear and direct, and left no room for mishap on the part of any student. She was far from a particularly good mood today, and if anyone got in her way, they were going to feel it. “You will recall, on our last lesson, we left off with the properties of the neutral number zero. You should also recall I handed out an essay on how zero may affect other numbers of magical property.” A cold glare was sent out across the student populous to determine who had indeed done their homework. All of her Ravenclaws had. A pair of Gryffindors had skipped out. One Hufflepuff and one Slytherin had done the same.

“Those of you who have completed your homework, please turn it in in a NEAT pile on the front of my desk,” concluded Anlicnes, looking directly at one of the Gryffindors whom, she could tell by the look on his face, did not. A line of seventh years formed, and slowly made their way to the front, depositing their homework as she had required. The professor made a short, nagging comment about those who did not perform their work, and returned to the lesson.

A rather long time later, she concluded her speech on the properties of numbers containing zero. At the end of the period, approximately three minutes before the class was over, Professor Schellden looked to each student individually, eyes boring holes into their brains.

“I will expect a three-foot long essay on today’s topic due next class. Those of you who fail to do your homework will receive detention this time around. I do hope all of you remembered to take notes.” With this comment, she dismissed class about two minutes early and stalked out of the room to her office.

Once there, she ruffled through the homework, grumbling about the low standards of today. Most ended up with A’s, though there were quite a few T’s and a single E from an extraordinary Slytherin student who reminded Anlicnes much of herself. A hard worker. Practical. Cutthroat. She was going somewhere in life.

When the homework grading was completed, she picked up the copy of the Daily Prophet her cat had delivered to her earlier that morning. On the front page, glaring black letters in huge font stared up at Professor Schellden above a picture of three Death Eaters that laughed and pointed at her. She placed a coffee mug on top of the restless figures to keep them from distracting her.

“Death Eaters seen near Hogwarts, hmm? Interesting.” Anlicnes slid her ice blue eyes across the text, lost in thought so that she did not hear a soft rap on her office door.
