Boat-buying research sources sought?
We're thinking of getting a fishing boat when we complete the move down to Florida late winter. I haven't owned a boat as an adult and am going to have to do a lot of research. Who's making a good fishing boat, maybe 21 or 23 feet, and not overly fancy? Any place I can go to get some recommendations and maybe even read up on what the fishing's like down there?

By the way, anyone spending time down around Fort Myers? What are you catching?

Re: Boat-buying research sources sought?
Don't have anything usefull, especially based in Florida. If you know what manufacturer and model boat you are looking for I would run a search for used boats. Like Used Mako's or something. When I was looking into a used Lund, which I just picked up today by the way, I did numerous searches and found countless used Lunds for sale. Now most were up in the great lakes region, because the Lund is a very popular boat up that way.

The other resource might be guides that are based in and around the area your moving to. Do a search for some guides and send some emails. Tell them your moving down, might be interested what's available for fishing, ask about their rates (keep them interested anyway) and then ask about the best bet on used boats. You won't have trouble finding one, there are probably 10 times as many boats in FL as cars. The other possibilty when you get down there is auctions, both bank and gov. With all the boats down there, you could probably get a good buy at an auction.

Well good luck and tight lines.

re:boat buying
We are in the process of buying a Parker 2110, which we found listed on Boats.com a last month. They were a big help when we started looking. Lots of reviews. Large list of sellers. Value comparisons. Definitely a good site when you're looking to buy. They have a fishing section, but I can't say I've looked at it yet.
