Boating Blues
Bob, it's a little late but fast dry 5200 is most likely your best option. Clean the area with a degreaser/dewaxer before sanding.
You think you got problems???
The new hull arived at the end of july as anticipated. The (newer) motor was ready the same week, they replaced a power pack (warranty). I worked feverishly for two and a half weeks fitting out the bare hull. In went the nonskid flooring with poured in flotation, the rod lockers, the aft casting deck, access hatches, carpeting, wiring, battery and fuel filter a little paint and it was ready to go. The first trip out the motor locks up at half throttle, luckily it starts again so we idle back to the ramp. Back to the dealer, I told them I am not an outboard mechanic but the metalic grinding any knocking noise sounds fatal (20 hrs. on motor). I call a week later, the guy says come pick it up we threw on a new power head and an oil pump (warrantee). Cool but now we got to break it in again. First step mark the oil level in reservoir. Run for two hours high idle, boring, check the oil level in res. don't think it moved but only burned two gal. gas. Lets mix the tank at 25:1 instead of 50:1 for break in just to be on the safe side. Next trip four hours and five gal of gas (premixed), get to ramp chek oil res. hasen't used a drop! Back to dealer. Does my motor have an affair going on at the dealership? Know any exorcists for outboards?
Hey I like to send you some picts. of boat in a few weeks. I have a scanner (working) but am CLUELESS what to do from there. If anyone has time could they post or e-mail me setp by step instruction how to scan save and post or sent pictures.
Don't tell the dealer but i have two back up motors in reserve for duck season!
That's got to hurt. I ripped out my AutoBlend the minute I took delivery of my boat back in 1987, but then again that was only a 50 hp. Don't know what your running, but I find that even in my striper fishing a 6 gallon top off is about all I ever need. It's just as easy to just throw in a thing of oil before the gas, that way I know it's right and I don't have to worry about the oil.
As for the scanning instructions, every scanner is different, so use the help menu for the scanning software program to get the pictures scanned. Once scanned you can save as, select jpeg file type, add a name and save to a file. Once there they really need to be re-sized to post on any webpage or message board. Usually 400x400 pixel size is about the maximum you want to post. Usually scanning software comes bundled with some sort of photo suite, use that to re-size by pixel ratio to get close to that size but it doesn't have to be exact. Could be 393 x 266, just as long as 400 is the max width or height.
Then you have to have the picture uploaded to a server before you can post it. If you don't have a website and don't want to bother setting up one of the freebies, email me the pic in jpeg format as an attachement and I will upload it to my server. Then the url for the piture would be www.rgsiroisco.com/yourpicname.jpg
Thanks
Thanks for the picture info. I'll play with the scanner when the mood strikes me.
As for bypassing the oil injection, that is next on my list. I haven't done so yet because I am afraid of voiding the warrantee. Do you know anything about OMC extended warrantees or third party warrantees. I normally would never purchace one but since I appear to have purchaced a lemon it may be worth the xtra $$$$. Nothing like getting a new powerhead every few hours!
Re: Thanks
There might be a link to OMC on my index page, but certainly you can find them on the web. A direct email to them might answer the question on the warranty. I know nothing about 3rd party extended warranties, sorry and good luck.
