Breakfast, March 2
OOC: All students at the convent are expected to attend breakfast.
OOC: EDIT- Date changed due to miscalculation on my part.
The long dining table was set out with place setting for each students, rolls, fruit, and cheese. The teachers and staff ate at a seperate table, leaving the young ladies time to talk to each other as they ate. Except for them, and the servants at the edges of the hall, the place was empty.
Alanna wandered into the Hall, looking very angry and moderately hungry. She had just arrived from her long trip here and had been very dusty, dirty and still very mad at her father. She couldn't believe he ahd done this to her. She still couldn't believe it.
'I wonder how Thom is doing?' she asked herself. As if she would know. Well, she could probably try to mind-call him as she had done once before. The magical connection between twins was amazing.
Alanna had gone to her rooms first thing to change, and had put on a quite simple morning gown for breakfast. She had brushed out her hair and tied it at the nape of her neck. Simple, yet refined.
The eleven year old looked around nervously, then shook her head. Alanna of Trebond was no nervous, fragile creature like the louts here. She would look them in the eye and say, "This is me!". She chuckled slightly to herself, then straightened her back and walked to a table. She would just sit for a few moments and see if anyoen approached her before getting up to get her food.

Re: Breakfast, February 17
A small, ash blond girl entered the hall. She noticed the red-haired newcomer instantly, empty as the room was, and made her way over to where Alanna was seated. "Are you the new girl?" she asked, more for etiquette's sake than for want of an answer. "I'm Cythera of Elden," she added, smiling slightly and sliding into the seat next to Alanna's.

Re: Breakfast, February 17
Alanna wanted to ignore the girl, oh how she wanted to ignore her. She gritted her teeth; anyone who would willingly - as far as she knew - come to a convent was not worth her time.
But her curious eleven-year old side prevailed. She turned around quickly and faced the girl. "Yes, I'm new," she answered shortly, but her face warmed up as she saw the smile on the girl's face. "Hello Cythera." she nodded her head to Cythera, and smiled back faintly. "My name is Alanna. My fief name is Trebond, but I don't suppose you've heard of it. Well - maybe you have."

Cythera's smile widened. "Of course I've heard of it," she said, lying deftly so as not to hurt the girl's feelings. "We studied Tortallan geography a while ago. With the boys." She wrinkled her nose. This part, at least, was true, but if Trebond had been mentioned, she hadn't been paying enough attention to notice. "So..." she attempted to steer the subject away from fiefs lest Alanna decide to question her knowledge about her home. "How do you like the convent so far? When did you arrive?"
Re: Breakfast, February 17
Alanna simply nodded and turned away before the girl could say anything else. She was tired...and hungry. Her stomach growled slightly, and she flushed a bright pink.
"How do you like the convent so far? When did you arrive?"
Ack, too late.
Alanna sighed and turned to face the girl again. "Well I haven't been here long enough to really get to know - or like - this place." she humphed. "I've been here maybe half a candlemark, maybe a bit more. It was just enough time to change and brush my hair." she touched her waves unconsciously as she spoke. "How long have you been here? What age do we leave?" she asked eagerly, wanting to know how soon she could get out.

Re: Breakfast, February 17
"I- at fifteen, I think, if you're ready," Cythera said, apparently not noticing Alanna's discomfort. She'd never really heard the topic come up, but to all of her knowledge, this was the right answer. "And I know some girls that have been kept longer- till they're sixteen. But that's only if they say that you aren't ready to go out into the world." She giggled a little. "And I've been her... it'll be a month tomorrow." Her eyes wandered to the food on the table. Alanna would be hungry, she realized, after just arriving, and she was herself. "Should we get something to eat?" she asked.
Re: Breakfast, February 17
"Dang, fifteen." she muttered aloud. She droze and stared at her hands for a moment then looked up slowly. She realised she had sworn aloud. She just ignored it, not to call attention on it if Cythera had noticed.
She nodded. "A month. That's neat. So you'd be about the same age as me? Eleven? Maybe."
Alanna picked up a piece of bread off the table, trying to make the action as dainty as she possibly could. "Yes, we should eat something. I'm quite hungry."

"Yes, I'm eleven," Cythera said, nodding as she spread butter onto her own peace of bread and choosing to ignore Alanna's first commment. "So we're the same age! I've only met..." she paused in thought. "Four, I think. Four other people my age so far. And I didn't really talk to any of the others," she added hastily, should Alanna think that she was trying to say something rude.
She took a small, dainty bite of her bread as she waited for the other girl's reply.
Re: Breakfast, February 17
"Eleven? Neat." Alanna said with a smile. "Yup, eleven makes us the same age. That's good. Do all girls come to the convent at the same age, or is eleven early, reserved for..." she trailed off, and said the last in her head. '...problem children?'
Alanna sniffed with an air of superiority directed towards her father, and poured herself a glass of water. She picked up the glass and set it to her lips, taking a large gulp then smaller sips. She set her glass down and looked at Cythera. "Four? Is it that private and sheltered here that you've only met four others in the month you've been here? Surely, you've seen and talked to more, in the dining hall perhaps? I've already met you, and I've only been here for a candlemark!"

Re: Breakfast, February 17
"No, four others my age," Cythera corrected her. "I've met quite a few that were older, and two that were younger, but there don't seem to be very many eleven-year-olds." She sighed, taking an apple from the table and biting into it. Then she was silent for a moment, considering Alanna's first question. "The youngest I've seen here are ten years old. And the older ones all said they came here when they were ten or eleven, at least that I know of."
Kat sat in a very unladylike way and grabbed a plate of food. She spotted two other girls she had never seen before and got up to introduce herself. "Hi, I'm Kat. Are you new?" she said very bluntly.

Re: Breakfast, February 17
Alanna noticed the girl immediately upon her entrance, she was that ungraceful. Wow... The girl sat down with a clunk and Alanna winced at the sound. Yikes. Alanna took another sip of her water before setting it down and glancing at the girl out of the corner of her eyes. "Hello...Kat." she responded airily. If Alanna was going to be a lady,s he was going to be one that her father had to be proud of. Then, when he was so proud he didn't care what she did, she'd do whatever she wanted. "I am Alanna. And this, this is Cythera." she motioned to the blonde girl beside her.

Cythera nodded. "A pleasure to meet you. And no, we're not new... Or at least I'm not. Alanna just arrived." She gave Kat a slight smile, and then asked, "How long have you been at the convent? We were just discussing... ages that people arrive."
Re: Breakfast, February 17
"Funny, I don't remeber seeing you. I've been here for two or three years, way too lond in my opinion. None of it has sunk in really." Kat sighed " It's always the same, 'Sit straight' or 'Your stiches are wrong', why does it matter? Anyways, sorry about the melodrama. I'm twelve, how old are you two?"

Re: Breakfast, February 17
Alanna wouldn't elt herself get scared. Two or three years seemed too long. Maybe she could sneak out some time. Sit straight? STITCHING?! What!?
"Well..." she said slowly, finally looking at Kat. "Hi Kat. Sorry I haven't quite been paying attention." she grimaced. "Melodrama's fine." she smiled. "I do it quite often myself. I'm eleven."
Alanna stared at the food. "What did you two have to do on your first days? Certainly they didn't expect you to start classes for the first week...right?" she asked, somewhat nervously. Stitching? Nooooo!!!

"I started classes on the third day," Cythera said, somewhat proudly. "And I'm eleven." She smiled at Alanna's and Kat's comments about melodrama, and wondered whether to take them seriously. Neither girl seemed very happy with the convent.
Re: Breakfast, February 17
"Third day?" she queried. "Okay, well that'll give me enough time to settle in. I think this might be okay, after all." 'Not! I'm sneaking out. I need to speak with Thom...I miss him already!!!! Argh! Well, maybe it actually won't be too bad. If I'm going to make my father proud, I'm going to ahev to become a lady! If I'm going to have to make my father prouder, I'll have to be the best there is!'
Alanna set her face and smiled at the other two. "So, are there any mage classes here? I know they don't want the women to ahev magic, but I like mine."

Kat scoffed. "I wish! They only let you take magic classes if you're good in all your other subjects, including stiching. I don't care about stiching!" She sighed. " I just want to go home, I've tried to run away before. It's not hard but they just send you back when they find you."

Re: Breakfast, February 17
"You ran away?" Cythera stared at the other girl. "And they don't let me take magic classes at all," she added enviously. "I don't have the Gift. I wish I did, though... What happened when you ran away?" she asked, looking at Kat with curiousity.
Re: Breakfast, February 17
"Yeah! What happened?" Alanna asked eagerly. 'So I can find out and learn about what not to do.' she thought to herself.
"I guess I'll just have to learn and be very good at all of my classes to take the magical ones. My village healer told my father that if my twin and I weren't trained properly...or at all, we would be a danger to us and those around us. Battle magic." she explained simply.
