Cara of BlythdinName: Katie Contact Information: MSN/Email: Knightowl45@msn.com
Character Information
Name: Cara of Blythdin
Gender: Female
Age/Birthdate: 12, May 7th, 418 H.E.
Position: Convent Student
Location:Mother of the Mountains Convent
Personality:
Cara is a very stubborn, sociable, optimistic person. She doesn’t like the convent, but does her best to look at the bright side of it. She is a very good student and rarely has to work to achieve high marks in her academic classes, but the classes which are said to “make her become a lady” she can’t seem to do well in. This is partly because she is very clumsy, but also because she dislikes the tedious ladylike activities which don’t capture her attention, and require too much patience, which she has in very little supply. Cara hates to see people upset, and will go out of her way to make them a little bit happier by what ever means. She has never really been out of Blythdin, so she knows relatively nothing about the rest of Tortall, but wishes to see it very much, especially Corus and the southern coast.
Reading, one of Cara’s greatest passions, is why she was sent to the convent. Before she was sent to the convent, Cara would spend days outside in a forest, reading books, and playing with her pets. Now, she sneaks away to her room or one of the smaller gardens, much to the displeasure of the Daughters, and reads when ever she can. She hates the Convent’s high walls and strict manner which keeps her indoors much of the time, for she loves to go walking in forests, or spending time anywhere outdoors. In the privacy of her room she has created herself a tiny oasis full of plants and fake waterfalls, in which she can spend hours alone accept for the sparrows which roost in her room, her tabby-cat, Legend, and (when she can sneak her in) her tiny kestrel, Arrow, whom she got as a going away present from her parents, which she was able to bring to the convent under the pretense of having a hunting hawk. She misses her family, but not as much as she expected, for she misses the freedom of her home much more.
Background:
Cara was born of Robert and Saranna of Blythdin, their first and only daughter. She has lived her whole life within the Fief, but dreams of the word beyond. The fief itself is a very mountainous fief, whose occupants, unlike most of the realm, occupy themselves with mining and orchards, not large farms. Even as a child, Cara was very inquisitive and into everything. As a way to calm her down and keep her in one place, she was taught to read with her older brother from the fief’s tutor. After that Cara couldn’t read enough, and ransacked the fief’s small library. As she grew older, she was taught to ride and found her second love. She was given her dappled-gray gelding, Sky, when she was 7. Once she had gotten her horse, she began to spend days in the forest near her home reading, or playing in the streams. She has always had a love of animals, and has adopted many of the hurt animals she found, including her cat, Legend, whom she found lost one day in the forest. Her mother grew worried about Cara, when she approached her with the topic of marriage. Cara grew angry, talking of a world to see, and her rights to choose a husband. After that it was sealed, Cara was sent to the convent, which her parents hoped would pound these rebellious ideas from her. It has done just the oppisite. In the one month Cara spent in the convent, she has learned more, and her ideas about her rights and her dream of seeing the realm have been imprinted on her heart after seeing the wishy-washy dreadfully obedient girls who have come out of the convent. She is determined that she will not become one of these mechanical drones of their parent’s bidding.
Physical Appearance:
Cara is a short 12 being only 4’1, but hates it because it makes riding difficult, and people take her for much younger than she is. The rest of her is completely in proportion, accept for her largish nose, which has been broken once when Cara fell from a horse. Her eyes are what she thinks is her best physical attribute, and are change color in a blue-gray-green scheme, depending on her background. Cara cares nothing for the current fashions and pulls her sun-streaked dirty blond hair back out of her face anyway possible not caring how it looks just as long as it’s not in her way. The determined set of her chin and face, contrasts greatly with her rosy cheeks, and joyful lips. Her face is tanned from her time spent outdoors, but is gradually lightening as the Daughters have denied her much of her former freedom to be outdoors. Cara has an excellent alto singing voice and loves to sing. She usually wears something simple, comfortable, and appropriate in a darker color such as deep green or an auburn brown. She hates the fancy clothes she is obligated to wear for special occasions at the convent, detesting their pastel colors, frills, and lace.
Strong Points:
She is kind, determined, and intelligent. She has a love for animals and a feel for many of the academic classes required in the convent. She goes out of her way to make friends and to help other people. Cara isn’t afraid of much and won’t back down to any challenge.
Weaknesses
Cara cannot excel in the finer lady-like skills required of the girls in the convent. She can be very cynical and unkind at times and has been known to yell at those above her in rank, when she is frustrated or angry (which she can get very easily) Cara holds grudges for a long time, and because of this dislikes most of the Daughters of the convent.
Magic:
Cara has a small gift of an yellow-orange color, which she is getting training in at the convent. She is best at growing plants, but can also heal minor injuries and conjure fire.
Pets:
Cara has a male tabby-cat, Legend, a female kestrel, Arrow, a dappled-gray gelding, Sky, and a floating population of wildlife which includes a flock of sparrows who have adopted her as a source of food and shelter.
Sample Post:
Cara was sitting, staring greedily out the window, daydreaming of riding through a sunlight forest, when a harsh voice, punctured through her thoughts.
“Cara! You call this embroidery! Look at this mess, you’ve done nothing but waste your time today…Are you listening to me young lady?”
Cara dropped her eyes from the window on to her latest attempt at embroidery which sat forgotten on her lap. Cara sighed inwardly as the entire room turned to look at her. I don’t understand why the Daughters can’t get it she thought, trying to ignore the Daughter’s ongoing barrage about her lapse in manners and just her unhelpfulness on a whole. I just can’t do embroidery!
Cara looked up as the Daughter ended, asking “Do you understand me?” Calmly Cara replied “Yes, daughter” and began to unpick her morning’s work, grinning as her clam response robbed the Daughter of her intended continuing of her barrage. After a few moments the Daughter responded “Make sure you do!” and stalked off to go torment an other unlucky victim. Making sure the Daughter was busy once again; Cara put down her work and returned to staring out the window, a dreamy smile on her face.
This looks very good. I'm going to accept it, but I want to say (although this probably isn't the best place to say it) that most of the characters I've accepted already are unhappy with the convent. So.... umm... this is the last one I'm going to accept? *doesn't know how to make this relevant in approving an application*
Re: Cara of Blythdin
Thank you!!! I would change her to liking the convent, but that would change her whole personality.... It might also help if there was a firm description of the Convent published, because I had to rely mostly on other's applications to see what it was like, and most of them already had a bad impression, so my character's was too! If there was a good discription, more players might point out the good charcteristics than the bad.
Re: Cara of Blythdin
Well I think it's just because they want to be like Alanna. But Alanna likes the convent....... for purely selfish reasons, of course! But Lioness has put a stop to that kinda thing. In the book it says that canon convent students liked the convent and were prim and proper and overall **tchy. So yeah. Like a certain MARCY I know... *grr* She had no right to bash us. We weren't bashing her, we were bashing her review. And she has no right to call us knocked up biotches. Geez. The only reason I want to..yeah, si cuz I love him. But I don't want to prove Marcy right.
*eek* Yeah, sorry, she's following me everywhere I go like a bad omen. More like a nightmare... *garr* *Tears gear out...thinks.... then turns to marcy and pulls ehr hair out and inserts it into her mouth*

Re: Cara of Blythdin
*grins* It seems she has gotten to you then? Don't stress about it, that's just doing what she wants you to, she wants you to get so rilled up that -we- seem to be in the wrong, She's quoting us on WWC now, *sigh* I'll have to begin to watch my words.
For all those who don't know Marcy is a 40 year old women who critiqued Wild Magic and gave it a poor report, based on nothing at all, and I replied after being shown by Meaghan. I replied, and defended the book, then Marcy came, and trompled over everyone on WWC, not just me. Stupid Woman, she doesn't know the wrath she has encured.
Here's the link if you want to read it, Click comments for the stuff I wrote and her replies.
Re: Cara of Blythdin
Read it. I was so pizzled.... Gahhhh.
Hehe, she wants good debaters? Well i won the debate on werewolves and vampires at Through the Barrier. Go me! She wants a good Fantasy-Buff? I've read J.R.R. Tolkein , Robert Jordan , Celia Rees , J.K. Rowling, Mercedes Lackey and plenty others, and I still love Tamora more than any of the others.
Why don't we go post all the info (threaed at WWC, and the critique and comments) at the Dancing Dove and The Page's Wing. Hehe, that'll show her. They have some amazing debaters there. God...

Re: Cara of Blythdin
Ooooo, that makes me SICK. For a forty-year-old, she's awfully immature when it comes to responses. *wants to smash something. Hard* It wasn't the review that bothered me so much...
Quote:Okay, let's go back and break down you initial post...let's also include you own words from your Let's Pretend website, shall we?
Re: Cara of Blythdin
I know. WWC and AD and MtB and TPW are not 'Lets Pretend' websites!!! argh!! It improves our creative writing, characterization, plotting and interaction with others. Geez...

Must...kill...Marcy...must...choke...her...too...death...
ARGH! She is insufferable, acting all condescending to all Tamora Pierce fans when she writes reviews like she hasn't even read the book....
I can shape the world with a few strokes of my pen. Until the walls of fantasy come crashing down, all is perfect.
Re: Cara of Blythdin
it's finished. FINI!! She had read the =abridged- version of the books!!!! She and Kaia have apologized though I'm still mad. She hasn't apologized to me.. *sigh* nothing I can do about it though. S'fine.

Soooo Sorry!!!
Ugh! I'm not sure where to post this so I'll post it here.
I just wanted to apologise for not getting on for a while, I had a bunch of school work, then it was spring break, then it was Easter, and I never seemed to find the time to get a decent post started.....so sorry guys!!!
Meaghan (and anyone else intrested) you should write a review on one of the Tamora Pierce books, here's the website you can use to see which ones you can review (sorry I can't link it at school)
If I ever get time I'm going to write one, but right now I'm swamped with work, and also I've got soccer, and a dance recital this week. Where has the time gone????
