A heavy frost has descended on the castle, looking more like snow has fallen than anything. Yet by midmorning, the frost has melted off leaving quite a muddy trek for anyone heading down to CoMC. The wind is dreadfully chilly so don't forget your house scarf if you're heading out anywhere farther than the castle. Even the lake is beginning to show tinges that winter is rapidly approaching.

~About Your Character~
What is your character's full name?: Connor Kamber
Character's age?: 16
Gender: Female
Give a detailed physical description of your character:
Connor Kamber’s looks are what some would call cute, foolish, or ridiculous. But either way, she tends to take quite a lot of care of her appearance. She has a heart shaped face and bright, grass-green eyes, which sparkle when she is happy. Her eyelashes are fairly long since she has a tendency to apply a good amount of mascara, and her lips are normally of a light pink color. Her whole appearance is overall very proportioned; standing at a height of 5’6”, weighing 124 lbs, and even her nose seems to be simply made for her face. She has long, blonde hair, that reaches nearly to her elbows, which she enjoys brushing and styling whenever she has free time, and she also tends to tuck behind her un-pierced ears
The reason why some put her in the category of foolish, or just plain dumb, is mostly because of her long blonde hair. Of course it isn’t very unusual, but her overall way of presenting herself does not really help to counter that first impression: her choice of clothes tends to be rather strange. She hates to dress in the Hogwart’s uniform, but is practically forced to since Hogwarts is a boarding school. And although she does very much try to wear it properly, she usually fails at trying to do so because she always wakes up late in the morning. The only thing she will be able to do in that short amount of time is quickly change into the uniform, sometimes even wearing her robe or shirt inside out, take her things and leave the Common Room in a state of uncontrolled messiness. In order to desperately fix her appearance, she carries a tiny, silver framed mirror with her, and tries to apply make-up onto her fairly tan skin (that burns at an incredible speed) in class, which usually ends in a disaster; such as stabbing her eyes with the mascara stick or swallowing all the lip gloss, because on the other hand she is trying to focus on class.
When wearing Muggle clothes, which she does whenever she gets the chance, Connor has a habit to dress unusual as well, unlike her other siblings. She wears bright colors and has taken a liking to secondhand skirts, mixing them with expensive designer shirts, jackets, and huge bows and clips in her hair. To sum it all up: when she wears Muggle clothes she looks horrible. But that is not certainly not the last way she can distinguish herself from the crowd: she enjoys dying her hair. Not because she wants to be distinguished, but just because she loves the surprise effect. Though, to her disliking, her parents removed all the muggle hair dye there was in their house, and Connor was literally forced to compromise with her blonde hair, which leads her into a weird state of depression every time she takes a look into her mirror.
And there is one more thing, which has had a nice amount of impact on her looks: Quidditch. It seems to be simply running through her veins; it is in her very nature to fly. And yet, her physical self is not extremely affected by this passion whatsoever. Of course, she has scars decorating her fairly well-shaped body, but they are invisible to those who do not know where they are; she usually hides them under her clothes. That would be unless she is in a particular “show-off” mood, which only happens to shine through after Hufflepuff has won a Quidditch game. Then was her time to tell everybody about her long Quidditch experience, and surely a little visual example, on her arms or her back, would come in handy.
The game has also not changed her muscular tone: Connor is still as flexible as a rock and her strength has unfortunately not enhanced itself either. Actually, Quidditch rather forces her to stay up well into the night, which ultimately leads to her being weak and grumpy in the morning. The only real way her passion has changed her appearance, is (of course, how could it be any other way) negative: her skin is incredibly vulnerable to the sun, and she only tans after the sunburn has peeled off; another thing she simply and utterly finds…gross.
Describe his/her personality:
Connor’s your average teenager. She has not had a complicated past, enjoys a good life with an uncountable number of siblings, hates her parents at most times (for such things as not changing her bed time since she was 13), and leads an overall satisfying life. She loves to smile, dress up, and yell at her younger brothers. Connor adores being a girl, and, as she says herself, would have committed suicide if she was one of those smelly and incapable things called boys.
She’s a good hearted girl and naturally goofy. Whenever she talks, she wildly gestures with her hands, sometimes knocking things over in the course of it. Although she wishes it was different, her laughter always turns into a rampage of loud snorts once she hears or sees something which really amuses her. But in her family, that laugh was not something unusual, knowing that every Kamber has inherited it. And even though some people, or actually quite a lot, consider her shallow, Connor is anything but that. She’s just someone who does not try to hide who she is, which then leads some people into confusion and makes them believe her behavior is fake, although it is entirely real.
She has a deep love for chocolate, and especially those Jelly beans. Connor swears to everybody who asks her, that she and her twin sister Dylan have tried every single flavour there was, and they now thought of themselves as Bertie Bott experts. Of course, she fears such things as You-Know-Who and his Death Eaters, but she usually just waves a conversation about those kind of things off, stating there all just crazy loonies who would die of their madness in a short period of time anyway. The things she really fears are spiders and half-empty bottles. Although her screams have finally reduced to loud shrieks, the grossness of spiders is a thing she truly despises. No matter what size they are; as big as her fist or as small as a coin, she hates them. The only problem is, she cannot smash them either. As much as she dislikes them, she lets herself be cornered by any of them because she somehow feels pity with those little things if she just turns them into mush, which is why she makes her siblings do it. Concerning the fear of half-empty bottles, it has just grown into a habit of hers. Whenever she sees one, a shudder runs down her spine and she empties it and throws it away as fast as she can. From the moment on that she started this, she had only been called the ‘Future House-Elf’ for over a year, rather than by her own name. Also, she is very unbiased when it comes towards Pure-Blood or Muggle-Born, and only has a sense of house rivalry when she’s playing Quidditch: her ultimate passion.
Give the names of all members of your character's immediate family:
Mother: Dorothy Cooper
Father: David Kamber
Twin sister: Dylan Kamber
Brother: 4 year old Daniel
Brother: 9 year old Matthew
Brother (twins): 13 year old Mason and Michael
Brother: 20 year old George
Brother 22 year old William (Billy)
Brother: 25 year old Colin (married to Grace Morgan)
Explain his/her history:
Dorothy Cooper and David Kamber seemed to be simply made for each other during their years at Hogwarts. Of course, their heritage was a thing in it’s own category; with Dorothy having a straight through British one, and David being incredibly proud of his German background; but either way, they appeared to be the perfect couple. And luckily for the two Hufflepuffs, they did not just appear that way…it was that way. Only when they were 21 did they marry, having their first child when they were both barely 22. And as one could most likely tell, their way of living life was an uncomplicated one, and still is. They get along very well, with the exceptions of debates whether the ministry is doing the right thing, or if the Daily Prophet is telling the real truth, but overall: they are happy.
It was only a few years after the twin’s (Mason and Michael) birth, that in a pretty house near the city of London, the Kamber family was blessed with yet again two little twins, girls this time, named Connor and Dylan. Since both of them had boy names, it was obvious they grew up like boys: they were always muddy, always bruised with scars where they had either been hit by their brothers or fallen off a tree or a broom, and they were nothing like the girls around them. They never felt the need to brush their hair, apply lip-gloss at the age of 10, or flirt with boys when they could just as well tumble town rocky hills with them. Of course, they both started taking more care of their appearance as they matured, but in their heart, they would always jump into dirty puddles and go to places they were strictly told not to go.
Their parents, Dorothy and David, although being Pure-Blood, always told them how good it was to be fair. They preached them to never discriminate against someone who did not deserve it, never feel higher up in the social rank simply because you were a Pure-Blood, but also never feel inferior to those who told you that they were better than you. So the twins grew up to be very unbiased and charming girls, one being very intelligent and enthusiastic, and eventually sorted into Ravenclaw, and the other also smart, though not overly intelligent but usually happy, and sorted into Hufflepuff. And yet their paths did not split there.
Due to the fact that Dorothy was a writer for the Daily Prophet and David was employed at the Ministry of Magic, both of the girls got a good amount of boyfriends during the past few years, which have just graduated from Hogwarts and were now working at either of these two places. Also thanks to their parent’s work, the twins received a lot of information during the times when everybody was in doubt if You-Know-Who was still alive. Although, the information was very confusing at times when their father and the whole rest of the family (including them) said Dumbledore was telling the truth, while their mother argued with him saying that Harry Potter’s words were inevitably lies. But eventually after everything Dumbledore had said actually turned out to be nothing but the truth, Dorothy finally gave in after being attacked by a number of “I told you so” and “I always knew it better” phrases from her husband and her family.
To Connor and Dylan, those little fights between their parents were very healthy for their own view of life. If you don’t argue for what you believe in, and just suck it all up, the pressure will break you. So rather have yourself proven wrong than just fearing you might possibly be wrong.
Also, during the twins’ years at Hogwarts, they have started to slightly distinguish themselves. Although it did not come as a shock to them that they were split by the sorting hat, it still hit hard. But they decided they would be eternally bound to each other, never failing to support in times of need. Connor, being quite good at Quidditch, had finally found a place to exercise one of the few things she was really good at besides dressing strange, and Dylan had finally found the perfect place to study and research about all the things she had longed to know, which was another step that could lead towards a separation. In their third year, they had gotten into a horrible fight and developed a loathing for each other, and yet the cause for their ever lasting arguments had been ridiculous: a Bertie Bott Bean flavor. They kept going further into the argument whether it was salt or sweat, that they ended up swaying from their original topic, until they stranded in the middle of a discussion about You-Know-Who. After a quick realization how ridiculous their fight had been, they promised themselves to never do such a thing again and listen to what their mother told them only months before: it’s not going to stop until you wise up.
Although they did not have another huge argument like this, and never had one before, they always had and always will have split opinions about some things. In first grade, at the time when little Harry Potter and his friends decided to venture after the Philosopher’s Stone, Connor and Dylan were way too excited to worry about this situation, simply waving it off by celebrating the end of the year with everybody. Though when it was time to move onto third grade, and another rumor spread like wildfire throughout the school, that the Chamber of Secrets had been opened, and the very heir of Slytherin has unleashed a most terrifying monster; it was a whole lot harder, trying to ignore the rising tension in the air, a thing they failed at eventually. But still, even though they were afraid, they did not let such events stray them from their path, and continued on. But then, the inevitable truth slapped them in their fourth year: Sirius Black had escaped. A murder was on the loose. Now it was their turn to be more afraid than anyone else, besides possibly Harry Potter, and they watched every step they took. Connor and Dylan were so frightened, that they had not been able to walk around a corner without peeking around it before. And when their ears caught what David had told Dorothy, that one of the most feared Death Eaters managed to escape, it took the whole summer holidays to convince them to step back outside their house.
The last few events, such as the Triwizard Tournament and the death of Cedric Diggory, caused sadness to wash over them, especially to Connor, since Cedric was a Hufflepuff, was on the Quidditch team, and was overall a nice guy; but it did not make them mourn for the rest of their lives. Even the horrible and terrifying Umbridge, as much as they hated her and wished they could strangle her, and then feed her to the greedy beings in the Forbidden Forest; did not manage to make them lose their calm, since not a single thing could cause as much fear as they had felt it in fourth grade. Until, of course, there was a truth behind Harry Potter’s claims. Connor and Dylan had read the interview in the Quibbler a million times, and thirty times again, and decided to believe the young fifth grader. It was a big step for them, admitting that You-Know-Who had returned. But then again, you have to wise up in order to clearly see what’s ahead of you, and how to fight the things you fear.
Wand Type: 10 Inches, Willow, Unicorn hair
Blood Type: Pure-Blood
Student's Year: 7th
Which house would your character prefer?: Hufflepuff
Why?:
First of all, Connor does not have any remarkable features which would place her in the other houses. She’s usually kind to most people, and overall a very uncomplicated person. And as the Sorting Hat said, Hufflepuff accepted all those, that are loyal and unbiased; a category in which Connor fits perfectly.
Give an example of your role-playing:
(A post from another board I RP at)
"Ron Weasley," said Ron in reply, "Gryffindor. I wouldn't sit on the bench. It's cold. And wet. And your trousers won't thank you."
“Well thanks for the warning, I’ll take your word for it,” Connor said and observed the bench. It really did look like it was horribly cold, and she was now glad that she had been warned. Only moments later, she remembered seeing this red head before; both of them actually. “You’re the Gryffindor Keeper, right?” She questioned him while pulling a few loose strings of cloth out of her brightly colored sweater, before dropping them onto the ground afterwards. It looked interesting, those green, red, and yellow pieces laying there on the bare ground; it gave the whole thing a little of something special. For a short moment, a thought came to her mind that someone, maybe her, should decorate the whole courtyard a little bit, but she quickly dismissed this idea since it would mean more sleepless nights to catch up with her current homework.
"Yes," Hermione added to Ron’s comment, "as I've already unfortunately discovered." She smiled. "I'm Hermione Granger. Are you in seventh year?"
“Yep. Doing all that work for the NEWTs. You should count yourselves lucky you don’t have to write the exams this year, even the thought of it is horrifying.” She said as a shiver not caused by the coldness ran down her spine. The NEWTs were really getting to her. Every time she thought of the exams she dropped everything she was holding, and as soon as someone began to speak of them, besides herself, an awkward nervousness usually rose up inside her. She was always behind with the homework, and to top it all, her grades were not that amazing either.
“So you are all sixth years?” She inquired, remembering all the careless times she had in sixth grade. Of course, it had been the year of a most disgusting woman named Umbridge, but there was not that constant fear of the coming up exams, and her broom was still in one piece. Her broom. Now that she thought of it, she was ready to cry. Connor told her parents to be quick about sending her the new one, which was probably the reason why they were taking so much time. They were always like that, getting a good laugh out of every life-threatening situation Connor was in, especially ones like these in particular. Edited by: Xenia Anamae at: 11/30/04 11:04 am

Re: Connor Kamber
Mimi,
Thanks for taking the time to apply at Hogwarts - A New Adventure! Your application, as far as I can tell after just a cursory reading, looks quite lovely. I just wanted to let you know, before we make any moves toward accepting or reviewing, that the PB you've posted in Connor's appearance is already in use. We really do need to update our list of taken PB's, so I claim the blame for this one. However, I felt you should know in case this has any impact on her physical appearance. (Though, I'm not sure if you will want a banner or av, in which case this is really pointless, right? Lol.) Well, let me know and then I'll take a serious look.
Re: Connor Kamber
Awwww...*pouts* But you're right, actually, I wasn't thinking about a siggy nor about an avatar, lol...so I'll just remove the pic but keep the description the way it is. Is that okay?

Re: Connor Kamber
Well, my once-over was not far from the mark; This is a nice, well written application with impeccable grammar and spelling. I especially like the name Connor for a girl, hehe. However, I'd like to see a few things added to her bio before we accept it.
While what you have currently written in your appearance is peachy keen and all of that, I can't seem to find her height and overall physique. How tall is she, how much does she weigh, has playing Quidditch changed her overall muscle tone? (Not that it has to, in fact, if it didn't that would be a refreshing change from the norm) How about her skin colour, does it tan or burn? Does Connor have her ears pierced? Just some things to think about.
Moving on passed your cute lil' personality to your history. Hm, hm...Purebloods, eh? Well, somewhere in our Applicant resources we've stated that we accept VERY few Pureblooded students...Though seeing one in Hufflepuff would be nice for a change. Yes. So, could you perhaps consider stating her heritage? Say, German, or French, or Dutch...or, whatever. Her parents don't need to be from there, just her, uh...heritage. Which leads me on to my next point, which is her parents' history. This we don't need in great detail. Just give us a short rundown of their life at Hogwarts, their homelife, and how they met, and stick it right on top of what you have in your History section. Other than that, maybe some details on the twins' thoughts on what's been going on in the past five years since Harry came to Hogwarts. They will have had fears, suspicions, opinions on the Chamber of Secrets, Sirius Black, the Triwizard Tournament...And, as you've stated, their parents were of different opinions on the truth behind Harry Potter's claims. What did they themselves think?
That's all, methinks. After adding some things in, you should be good to go! Looking forward to having you aboard.

Re: Connor Kamber
Thank you! And yes, I love the name Connor xD
Soo...to what you said, I added two more paragraphs to the appearance as well as the history. Maybe it wasn't neccessary to do that much...but...well...I felt like it, lol. And ooops. I must have accidentally skipped that Pure-Blood thing, but thank you for accepting it anyways! And also thank you for the ways to improve my app.
By the way, did you make your avatar youself? It's so cool! Like that song...save a horse, ride a cowboy
Edit: Can I apply Connor for the Quidditch team? As a beater? *looks confused* Where can I do that? Edited by: Xenia Anamae at: 11/30/04 11:13 am
