Feeding
Hi,
I just I would put in two cents about what I feed my chinchillas.
I use Oxbow Chinchilla Deluxe pellets. I would have no qualm about feeding Mazuri, but I feed my other rodents Oxbow and just wanted to keep it to one brand.
I use Oxbow Hay. I don't know if the person who wanted to know about a good hay is here, but I remember saying that Oxbow Hay was down in quality. Well, they seem to have overcome their troubles and their hay is great again. I feed Timothy, grass and sometimes meadow hay. I only feed Alfalfa to my young chin and will stop when she gets older.
I do not use Calf Manna. I supplement calcium, especially for the younger chin, with a mineral block or I grind a little cuttlebone over the chins' regular food.
For treats, I give a little leafy greens and a little fruit. I also give a few raisins and maybe a little grain bread. That's about all.6

Feeding
I feed my chinchillas the Kline Diet. I also supply a handful of Alfalfa hay (Kaytee Brand) each day, and occasionally Timothy hay. Kline alraedy contains the proper supplement, so there is no ned for Calf Manna. They also get a salt wheel, chew blocks, and a Peanut Butter flavored Booda Bone.
As for treats I give them each a raisin and a dehydrated apple treat, and about once every three days they get a slice of apple and/or some carrot. :)

Re: Feeding
Hi James,
I have heard of the Kline diet often. Can you tell me what is in it and what the supplements are?

Kline Diet
Hello,
I cannot tell you exactly what is in it, but it is made to be fed with Alfalfa hay. Try e-mailing Ann and ingram@rjsonline.com for more info :)

By the way...
You can also order Kline from Ann Ingram (ingram@rjsonline.com). It is a little more money than other brands, but I consider it worthy.

Re: By the way...
I really do not know about the Kline Diet except I have heard from a breeder that I know that she has had problems with the Kline by giving all of her chins diarhea and lost one chinchila because she went to the Kline Diet. I will stick to the Mazuri because it works for me and I can get it local here.

Re: By the way...
Hi,
I read a marvelous review of brands from Georga Hackworth. She gives both Mazuri and Oxbow good reviews. I have had no problems with Oxbow and would switch to Mazuri.
I was curious about the Kline diet but would not feed it to my chins. Many many breeders use Mazuri. In my humble opinion, I think that those are the two better brands.

In my opinion...
I have never heard a bad review about Kline. By the way Kris, I have been told that that rumor is false. Nothing bad has been reported after feeding their chins Kline. I have heard that it really improves their coats as well.. In my opinion, Mazuri and Kline are the absolute best chin foods, Tradition seems to becoming popular as well..I have had no problems with Kline, and my chins absolutely love it! I find it very satisfying...

Re: In my opinion...
Hi James,
I do feel that Mazuri is very good. I feel that Oxbow is also very good. A rescue person got a chin whose coat was dull and the poor animal was listless and ill. She fed Oxbow to the chin and his health improved greatly.
I can't talk about Kline because I have never used it. I include Oxbow as a top food. They have foods for different rodents and rabbits. My dwarf hamster is old but she does not look it at all. I give her Oxbow Rodent food. They have food for both the herbivores and the omnivores. I don't have stock in the company, but I feel that it is an excellent food and would not hesitate to recommend it.

Re: In my opinion...
I feed my chins Mazuri as well. The chins really love it, and they are all very healthy. I add 15-18% calf manna and 12% oats to their pellets. I premix enough for 2 or 3 days. There is a local store that orders me a fresh bag on a regular basis, so it comes in fresher than getting it from the feed store.

Re: In my opinion...
James, I can only post about the Kline diet from what I have seen and heard from a local breeder here. She is a very trust worthy person and I have seen her chins on both the Kline and the Mazuri. Maybe the Kline diet is okay but I will stick to the Mazuri because it does work out great for my chins. I also feed them a suppliment from Oxbow, oats and of course their rasins.
