Re: Finale vs. Sibelius
Finale-Just because this was the program I learned and now I am used to it. Lots of people say its not user-friendly, but I feel that especially with the newer versions the Help Manual has the answers to most anything I didn't already know.
Re: Finale vs. Sibelius
Well, I would say Finale, since I own Finale software. However, I haven't tried Sibelius, so I can't really make a decision without trying Sibelius first. There are some advantages to having Sibelius though. For one thing, you can add many more additional instrumental parts (unlike Finale which only allows up to eight). The instrumental sounds are also more realistic than Finale, although I only have the free Finale Notepad, so I don't know the full benefits of the software.
Here's why:
- It's well-designed and easy to use, with an ultra-complete help system.
- It has enough features to do almost anything you'd want to.
- It's a mature program (i.e. not beta), but under constant development.
- It costs under $100 to have it on your doorstep - especially nice for those of us who have to pay for our own software!
- It's not made by a big company, but by one guy named David Webber. This means that if you have a question, you can *ask him* on the mailing list - and he'll invariably answer. Furthermore, he takes feature requests (just air your WIBNI on the mailing list).
And it has a full-featured evaluation version that you can try before shelling out the cash!
Sibelius and Finale may be able to do a few things Mozart can't, but from what people (including many former Sibelius and Finale users) say on the list, it's a very valid alternative for most people. I certainly find it to be such.
