A heavy frost has descended on the castle, looking more like snow has fallen than anything. Yet by midmorning, the frost has melted off leaving quite a muddy trek for anyone heading down to CoMC. The wind is dreadfully chilly so don't forget your house scarf if you're heading out anywhere farther than the castle. Even the lake is beginning to show tinges that winter is rapidly approaching.

What is your character's full name?: Kaylee Silvertongue
Character's age?: 15
Familliar: Kaylee's familliar is a black male rat who weighs in at nearly 3 pounds. She calls him Niko, though he is also affectionately referred to as 'fat rat'. Niko is an odd-eye (one ruby/red eye, one black eye) which makes him all the more special, in Kaylee's opinion.
Give a detailed physical description of your character: Standing at 5''5, Kaylee's slim figure is far from towering over anyone. Though she wouldn't be described as petite, she sometimes despises the fact that she hasn't grown as tall as she'd like. Having been an 'early sprouter', she becamed used to being taller than everyone. Unfortunately for her, she seemed to have grown only an inch in the past 3 years. So while having been considered quite tall at age 12, she is now at average height, if not slightly below. Bah Humbug.
Kaylee has naturally straight black hair that ends precisely an inch below her shoulder blades. Her hair is usually left as it is, long and free-flowing. It doesn't tend to get in her face, and so she has no real reason to tie it back. Kept down or not, her dark hair is a major contrast to her rather pale skin, another one of her self-annoying quirks. No matter how much time she spends outside in the summer, sunscreenless and in the sun, she can never truly tan. Though her skin is noticably darker in the summer months, she still appears a little light.
Her dark green eyes don’t usually seem to hold much expression, but those who are ‘allowed’ a peek will see that truly, they are never empty. When her guard is down, one may notice loads of normally hidden emotions, buried deep within her face and eyes. The soft features of her face seem to contradict the brutal personality many people assume she has, and though she sometimes wishes she could change the innocence of her face, she refuses to wear make-up.
In the summer, Kaylee prefers to wear muggle clothing around her home. She finds it quite comfortable, and enjoys the large assortment of different styles the muggles have. Most of her clothes center on the colours red and black, as they are her utmost favourites.
Describe his/her personality: Though not the friendliest person alive by any means, Kaylee has opened up a little in recent years. She can still sit in a room full of rowdy people, content to be silent, but this is more due to her thoughtful nature than any unfriendly tendencies. She can also be loud, particularly when comfortable with her audience, and is very opinionated. Like most teenagers, she has her bitter days, but she usually isn’t angered easily. Things that do anger her easily and severely are a lack of respect for life, and generally annoying people. Kaylee may appear ‘dark and dreary’ to some people, on some days, but once you get to know her, there’s much more to her than that.
Underneath the dark outer 'aura' that some people ‘see’, and the occasional sarcasm, Kaylee is a very compassionate person. She holds a great respect for all life, and will go far to protect it. She’s been known to put the life of an animal before her own. Kaylee fiercely believes in fighting for those who cannot fight for themselves, which is why she is so strongly attached to animals. She hates the thought of any living thing suffering, but her compassion centers on animals, simply because they cannot speak for themselves.
Kaylee has a bad habit of biting her nails when under stress. She doesn't bite them off - simply chews, for lack of a better word, without really damaging the nail. Another habit that she has is to grind her teeth, hard, when severely bored and spacing out. Many people find this annoying and disturbing, not to mention the potential damage to her teeth. Luckily, it takes a lot to bring her to severe teeth-grinding.
Kaylee's greatest fear is to be trapped. Anywhere. She isn't claustraphobic, as this isn't limited to small spaces. Even in her own home, she has been known to have little bouts of panic when imagining various unlikely situations that could leave her trapped inside. Consciously, she realizes how stupid it is to fear something like this so intensely, but her subconscious has never been able to come to terms with it.
A top that, Kaylee is also an extremely loyal friend, and will take secrets to her grave. Honest and sometimes brutal, she’s definitely the person to go to if you want an opinion. That’s assuming you’re ready and able to take a LOT of criticism, depending on her mood.

Explain his/her history:
Michael Silvertongue and Amy Martez met at Hogwarts. As they were a year apart, they didn't have any common classes and so barely exhanged a word until Amy's 6th and Michael's 7th year. At first, the two didn't get along too well, though she did enjoy arguing. Amy in particular liked to prod at Michael's nerves when she had some steam to blow off. It always made for an intellectual argument. Over time, all the disagreements actually seemed to bring them together, and by the end of the year they were inseperable. They exchanged information and communicated often by owl post once Michael graduated. The summer after Amy's final year at Hogwarts, the two arranged a meeting, after which they began to date. One thing led to another, and soon they had moved in together and were seriously considering a child.
Kaylee was born to witch Amy Martez and wizard Michael Silvertongue some 15 years ago. Her parents didn't marry until a few years after her birth, at which point they were quite sure that they could stand each other for a while longer. The delay was mostly on Amy's side, as she had a bit of a fear of commitment, and wasn't sure if she could 'sign away her life' like that. Eventually, she made the decision, and they were finally married after 7 years of dating.
Kaylee was on the list to attend Hogwarts since the age of 4, when her parents finally made the decision of which school to send her to. Both of her parents had attended Hogwarts, and so she often wondered why they had so much trouble making the decision. It was likely to do with the fact that they simply wanted the best for her, and considered every school - no matter the distance - before finalizing the decision. The there was the fact that her father seemed to have a major fear of making decisions. She has always been glad that this fear wasn't passed down to her. How annoying would it be to spend every minute of your life trying to decide what to do with the next minute?
Her childhood was relatively normal and uneventful. She played with other children during visits which her parents tended to arrange, in an attempt to allow her to grow up a socialized child. Many of these 'visits' took place outside, and instead of becoming a people-person, Kaylee developed a love for the outdoors. She used to get extremely upset everytime one of the other children decided to play 'squish the ants', or stepped on a spider. Her extreme sensitivity at such a young age probably contributed to her general distrust of people. Young children generally have little respect for little lives, and Kaylee grew up with the impression that everyone was like that. Nevertheless, she was happy...up to the age of 7 years.
Not two weeks from her eighth birthday, Kaylee's mother was killed in a sort of freak accident. Two wizards had been dueling in a field not far from the Silvertongue home, and at such time as Amy was walking by, one of them, in a confused panic, attempted to perform two spells at once. The other wizard quickly reflected the spell, recognizing the potential danger, and it ended up hitting Kaylee's mother. She wasn't told what the spell was, but her mother ended up dying at the nearest magical hospital. Since then, Kaylee has been rather pessimistic, trying not to hope...though she does have her moments. Shortly after the death of Amy Martez, the remaining family moved to the outskirts of the city, into a house that backed into the woods.
Her mother’s death also affected her in other ways, both positive and negative. For one, she grew quite close to her father. Though signs of affection were always rare, Kaylee was able to confide in her father quite a bit growing up. They used to spend hours talking, and Kaylee has much respect for her father for having put up with her childish ramblings. This started to tone down once she reached age 11, but even now, the relationship still goes strongly.
During the summer before her first year at Hogwarts, Kaylee heard panicked squealing while walking the rare 2 hour journey to the store. She found that it was coming from their muggle ‘neighbour’, who raised pigs for food. Apparently, he had really bad aim, and one of his pigs was running around with its back half split by the axe. He eventually killed it, but Kaylee has been unable to eat any type of meat ever since. Though she hadn’t given much thought to it before-hand, she can’t even bear imagine a living thing suffering like that, just so she can enjoy a burger.
Her first year at Hogwarts would be described as a disaster by some people. She was constantly on the defensive, being in a brand new enviornment with peope she didn't know. The fact that she had become unaccustomed to dealing with strangers since moving away from the city didn't help. Then there was all the panic with the Chamber of Secrets, and students being petrified. Though she would never admit it to anyone, she spent that year just as afraid as anybody else. Though it would have been a perfect opportunity to commiserate with others and possibly hold an actual conversation, Kaylee didn't take advantage of it. She left Hogwarts for the summer with no real friends to leave behind.
Her second year didn't go much better, despite the fact that yet again much of the school was drawn together by fear. This time the fear was caused by the escaped Sirius Black. Despite all the terrible things she had heard about him, Kaylee wasn't really sure what she thought of it. She was extremely skeptical of anything anyone said, and stood by her beliefs to give everyone a fair chance. Still, the thought of Black lurking around Hogwarts grounds did frighten her, and she was sure to keep to the common room much of the time.
By her third year she was beginning to socialize a little more. The Triwizard Tournament actually managed to provoke some excitement in her, and she sometimes joined in with the other students to discuss the various tasks the competitors may have to perform. Once the actual tournament rolled around, however, she was none-too pleased with it. The task with the dragon, especially, disturbed her. She was sure they had better things to do than sit around and be annoyed by various distracts the students thought up. The last task, though it seemed to be the most innocent, actually turned out the worst. A dead student, brought back by Harry Potter. Harry Potter, who insisted that the Dark Lord had risen yet again. Albus Dumbledore confirmed this, but Kaylee heard many contradicting stories, especially on the news. The Minister for Magic certainly didn't believe it. Kaylee, personally, placed her trust in Dumbledore.
Now, going into her 5th year at Hogwarts, Kaylee still has no one she would consider a true, close friend, but is much more open to finding a few...though she hopes that perhaps this year will not hold as much tragedy as some in the past.
Student's Year: 5 Which house would your character prefer?: Gryffindor Why?: Kaylee is brave and stands by her beliefs. Her beliefs, come to speak of them, are incredibly strong and fully imprinted within her. She will not budge, even if threated, when something she believes in is being denounced or abused.
Give an example of your role-playing: It was late in the evening, and the fire was burning. This provided the only light in the room, as most students were still either out-and-about, or up in their dorms. Outside, it was quite nearly pitch dark. The moon was only a sliver of weak light, and everything seemed to stretch into an endless expanse of darkness. That cool darkness stretched inside, as well. Despite the heat of the fire, the room still felt cold. Maybe it was that whole 'Slytherin aura' thing.
Kaylee sat on the floor, a little away from the fire. Her silky black hair framed her pale face as she sat, completely still, her eyes filled with thought and expression as she stared ahead. A large black rat lay stretched out in her lap, continuously grooming her hand, though she paid no notice. She seemed to be completely out of it.
So much death and hate in this world...So much pointless suffering. God I hate the human race.
NOTE: I hope it’s okay, but by the end of the application I got really lazy, so I just took one of my posts from another HP board to use as my roleplay sample. Obviously, I’ve changed the character around for this RPG, as she is no longer in Slytherin, and rats aren’t allowed so she doesn’t own one…But yeah. Hey Ratty,
Thanks for taking the time to apply at our little slice of..uhm..board. There are some things you need to work on throughout your app before we accept you, though.
As far as grammar and spelling, I think you're good to go. It's just length and detail I want you to work on. For appearance, we ask a minimum of one paragraph, true, but you should always strive to surpass any minimum. You have most of the basics crammed into that one paragraph, and what I get out of that is a very rough idea of what you want Kaylee to look like. Expand on every element of her physique, and you should be able to have at the very least three paragraphs worth.
In your personality, I sense a tad bit of contradiction. It isn't very noticeable though, so lets focus on length, once again. Give Kaylee some hobbies, some fears. List any goals she may have, or subjects she's talented in. Now, there's NO WAY, fifteen years of life can be summarized in five paragraphs. We want to know some things about her parents too, how they met, what they do, what types of families they came from, etc. We also need to know what's been going on with Kaylee in the past four years of her Hogwarts schooling. Remember, she attends school with the famous Harry Potter, and is in Ginny's year. That means her first year would have taken place in CoS. Kaylee would have had opinions on the Chamber, on Sirius Black, on the Triwizard Tournament...all of that. And those are the things we need to know.
By blood type, we mean either Halfblood, Pureblood, or Muggleborn. Again, expand on the reasons for which Kaylee would be placed in Gryffindor. Not all Gryffindors are troublemakers, which is what I suppose you mean by, "She also has a knack for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, which seems to be characteristic with Gryffindors." And if that is what you mean, her personality doesn't reflect it at all.

Hi K hun. *hugs* good to see ya again!! You've done a great job so far, there's just a few things I'm catching.
First of all, in your familiar spot, there's a bit of some weird wording. I'm thinking it's supposed to read has, not is.
Also, a history of the parents would be greatly apreciated. How they met... why they took so long to get married. Also, I'm questioning why the parents would choose what school Kaylee would attend. As far as we know, it's their place of residence that decides.
