Kurt Cobain-- Image or Content?
Hey. Debate going down here.
One half believes that- Kurt is famous because of his style-ie wearing a cardigen. People connected with him through his image because he was more femmine like say.....Guns and roses. They think that the record company (and Kurts input) made album covers and lyrics (about women, album covers including pictures of babys). To inforce the 'femmine something complety new style'
OTHER HALF:-half of the above is true but beleieve Kurts LYRICS shine through all the way and his ablity to connect with his fans is through his music.
his lyrics are the things that matter to real fans of music...to the media and teeny boppers its his image.

Re: Kurt Cobain-- Image or Content?
Actually, I think it may have had to do with a little of both. Kurt's "image" was that he didn't care about what the rest of the world thought of him (which led to grunge and all that). Everyone was so sick of all the hair and glam bands that it was nice to have some dudes who cared more about their music than their make-up. Their music. Essentially it was the content, but the image helped too, I guess.
Re: Kurt Cobain-- Image or Content?
It's whatever you make it to be. If you thought his music rocked, it was about the music. If you thought his image was cool, then it was about the image (damn you). This goes with pretty much anything.

I've never considered Kurt & his image as being 'feminine' but I guess your right by default, in that he isn't exactly totally masculine either.
Wearing cardigans etc. wasn't a thought out choice - simply a result of not caring, he needed stuff to wear and grabbed the first 50p item in a charity store... posters/pictures reveal him wearing a whole host of random things, including those £1 over-sized sunglasses you get at gas stations & tourist beach shops.
Grunge is all about not caring - a "whatever" attitude...
it was a reaction to Punk whoes attitude 'claimed' not to care but what with the neon hair and outrageousness obviously DID otherwise they wouldn't make such an effort.
Although I love Grunge, musically, I think it's attitude sucks.
It's slipped into the mainstream, and now no one is political anymore. The government can happily take advantage of us now, and we don't care enough to fight them.
