I went to Ottawa in January of 1998 for a conference ... that was my first time skating on the Rideau Canal. It was SOOOO COLD!!!! Nevertheless, it was a weird but fun experience, just skating and skating with no boards in sight!! No anything in sight!! You feel really free without any barriers surrounding you ... that's easily the fastest I've ever skated in my life!! If you ever get the opportunity ... DO IT!!!!
