Singer, definately. His voice was just makes me melt His guitar was pretty much all 5th chords... but as kerrigan said, its "the catchiness that counts".

Re: Kurt:better Singer Or Guitarist?
Yeah, he was a crappy guitar player. But I'd rather listen to those three bar chords by him than a really technechal solo by someone else, ya know? His songs had meaning.
Re: Kurt:better Singer Or Guitarist?
Better singer, definitally. Although he wasn't a bad guitarist, he just figured: it's a time where the 80s metal is dying down, with all those incredible solos and whatnot, so why not just make a few simple riffs and very easy solos to spite them?
He wasn't BAD, it's not like he was a handicapped guitarist and only made beginner level songs, he just did it to be..well, Kurt.

Yeah, I guess you're right, Dreavus. Although when he was learning guitar he practiced singing and playing rather than working on the technical stuff. That's also the reason lots of people say Cobain "killed rock"... but I think he revoloutionized it.
Re: Kurt:better Singer Or Guitarist?
I'm a Nirvana fan,
but Honestly.. Kurt's singing is CRAP, as is his guitar playing!!
however
he is totally awesome & talented at 'writing songs',
his musical style is just that... it's about "style" not depth,
although he can sometimes be deep too.
it's all about being 'chic' or 'cool' in a Punkrock way:
saying "hey" and "yeah" lots in a non-carish kinda stylish way,
it's all about the 'dynamics' - soft then loud, or passionate then 'whatever'...
