Rycca, of course!

How long have you been affiliated with ezBoard?

Six months or so.

Many moons, Kemosabe. (Eight years? Something like that.)

How long have you Harry Potter role-played?

Six months, as well!

Code:

H-ANA RR

I'm re-posting the app that was accepted a few months back, because I'd like to play Luna Lovegood again (I miss playing her...a lot...)

~About Your Character~

What is your character's full name?

Luna N. Lovegood

Character's age?

Fifteen

Give a detailed physical description of your character:

Luna is of average height and weight - that is to say, about 5'4" and 120 lbs - with proportionate arms and legs. She hasn't yet developed completely in all the right places; she is rather flat.
Her skin is pale and without freckles; only the bridge of her curved nose shows any signs of a tan.
She has long, dirty-blond hair framing a heart-shaped face. The slightly raised look of her pale eyebrows over her protuberant blue eyes give her a permanently surprised expression. Her mouth is straight, with even, white teeth beneath full lips that are almost always set in a dreamy smile which turns the surpise into complete spaciness. Her jaw is a firm line from her ear to her chin, where it rounds off nicely. She doesn't seem to need to blink as much as other human beings.
Anyone who meets her has the distinct impression that she is completely crackers. She wears her wand behind her left ear for safekeeping, just above one of a pair of radish-shaped earrings.
Around her thin neck, she wears a necklace made with strung butterbeer caps.
Her clothing of choice - aside from the school uniform - consists of brightly-colored slacks and earth-toned vests over an interesting range of blouses and tee-shirts.
Her particular favorite shirt lately is an old X-Files number that reads, "The Truth is Out There".
She opts to wear a pair of tennis shoes that have been charmed with the colors from the Ravenclaw house (blue and bronze) or, in more relaxed settings, a pair of sandals.
Not part of her wardrobe, but usually seen on her person, is the newest edition of the Quibbler.

Describe his/her personality - including fears, hobbies, interests, habits, strengths & weaknesses:

Many people would say - and have said - that Luna is distinctly different from the other students at Hogwarts in that she will believe just about anything she reads - so long as it comes from the Quibbler - which her father edits - and has absolutely no substantial evidence to back it up. [Hermione, OotP]
This is not entirely untrue.
She has a penchant for the mysterious, the unexplained, and the wholly unbelievable, but she also has a surprisingly firm grasp on reality. She knows who to trust, and what to believe; of course, this doesn't stop her from going Snorkack hunting with her father over the summer holidays. She is very stubborn in her views, even to the point of arguing them, but, given substantial proof that she is wrong, will eventually admit that she made a mistake.
She enjoys swimming, catching Snorkack, Knargle hunting, reading, and generally having fun with life. (In her fifteen years, Luna has somehow learned to become a Bon Vivant. She loves life and makes the most of it.)
Luna is able to see people for who and what they are, not out of any magical ability, but out of an awareness of the world around her. She can tell, with a sort of empathy, how people are feeling, and will usually pry.
She has a shocking bluntness in the way she speaks, as though the things she has to say are not a big secret at all - that is, she thinks everyone already knows what she knows.
She has a disconcerting habit of saying "you know" after extremely odd statements ("I saw a flotterskink in your food this morning, you know. You really shouldn't have eaten it."), and of spouting off whatever she is thinking at the moment.
Although she is quite organized in the way of study and classwork, she is rather haphazard when it comes to her personal living area.
Luna is very close to her father - he is the only immediate family she has, and vice versa. He comes quite close to spoiling her, and indulges her extraordinary ideas.
She says she doesn't like to dance, but then again, she has never been asked to do so.
She is very much afraid of Heliopaths and Dementors - she has some very strong, painful memories that recur when she runs into the latter. She has never actually seen the former.
The one thing that should be added about Luna Lovegood is that she is not insane. She is, in fact, quite lucid, and will say so. She has moments in which her sanity shows quite clearly - and, on the other end of the scale, she has moments of distinct dottiness.

Give the names of all members of your character's immediate family:

Father - Harvey Lovegood
Mother - Clara Lovegood (deceased)

Explain his/her history:

Harvey Lovegood met his future wife at Hogwarts; both were members of the Ravenclaw house. Harvey was always a bit on the odd side, and it was this that attracted Clara to him. Apparently, their courtship, romanticized greatly for Luna's benefit, was actually very dull. In their seventh year, Clara began inviting Harvey for study dates, came over one day with a headache due to the boy's incessant ramblings about a tabloid magazine he wanted to work for, and kissed him to shut him up.
Two years later, they married, and not long after that, Luna was born at St. Mungo's.
Clara, now working for the Minstry's Department of Experimental Charms, had the distinct impression that her daughter was going to be exactly like her husband: weird.
The baby never cried. She slept through the night right from the start, and by the time she was able to walk, began escaping from her crib.
One day when Luna was six, and Harvey was working at the Quibbler main offices, she was playing out in the yard, hunting for an animal called a "Borwhip". Clara was experimenting with an unstable charm in her makeshift laboratory. The little girl was playing just beneath the window; as Luna straightened to move on to an untouched patch of grass, an explosion sounded from inside the house. Shards of glass rained down where she had just been crouching.
She ran inside to find her mother burned severely - but still very much alive, and in pain.
Clara died as her daughter looked on.
Luna didn't scream; she hardly cried at the funeral. At six years old, she accepted what had happened with grace...although she did become almost exponentially weirder.
She began searching for things lauded by the Quibbler, reading books on the afterlife. At seven years old, she could understand most of the things she read, and could present and argue them well enough to shock her father into thinking that he ought to spend a bit more time with his daughter. They began taking trips to Switzerland and other such countries; the hunted Snorkacks, missed the chance at a picture of a Heliopath (according to the locals of the country in which it had been spotted, it had melted into a puddle of lava and sponged back into the ground.), and did various consulting jobs for the Quibbler.
When Luna was ten, she received her letter to Hogwarts - an incident that wasn't unexpected. She happily went to Diagon Alley with Harvey and collected her supplies for her first year of training as a witch.
The first four years at Hogwarts were, for the most part, uneventful. Luna took a small interest in the goings-on of Harry Potter and his circle of friends, and was not a little surprised when, in her fourth year, the boy came to sit with her on the Hogwarts Express.
Her first impression of the Boy-Who-Lived (up close) was that he wasn't very tall. Or smug, like the Slytherins sometimes claimed. And he certainly didn't seem like the Hero type. He seemed like a normal kid.
So she began popping in and out of his life, just to see if maybe he would turn into a hero over the year.
He didn't. By the time Hermione approached her about a secret club the trio wanted to start, Luna had decided Harry was always going to be a normal, if not angry, teenager.
Joining the D.A. was an interesting experience, to say the least. Luna found that Harry did, indeed, know a lot about Defense Against the Dark Arts, and was very much appreciative to learn the spells he had to teach. She guessed that they would come in handy for her owls in her fifth year.
Little did she know how soon she would put those spells to work much sooner than that.
At the end of her fourth year, Luna somehow managed to get herself involved in a plot to distract Umbridge from her office while Potter used the fireplace to floo Stubby Boardman - or was it Sirius Black? - and ended up taking a flight on the back of a thestral over Muggle London to the Ministry of Magic.
Within the labyrinth of the Department of Mysteries, Luna had her first hands-on experience with Voldemort's Death Eaters.
She also had a very close encounter with the Veil. So close, in fact, that when she heard the whispering coming from the other side, she almost stepped through. SHe knew her mother was there, waiting.
She considered herself very lucky to come away unscathed.

Wand Type:

An Ollivander creation - Oak, 8 inches, Unicorn Hair; perfect for Charms.

Blood Type:

Half-blood - Clara Lovegood's father was muggle-born.

Student's Year:

Fifth

Which house would your character prefer?

Ravenclaw

Why?

Luna is an intellectual; she enjoys reading and learning. Her mind is her greatest resource.
She exhibits bravery, but only in small doses - it is never a blind courage, but one that has been thoguht through very carefully. She is hard working, but only in her studies, and is too blunt with her words and too honest for ambition to be a Slytherin.

Give an example of your role-playing:

Luna approached the Ravenclaw table and sat down, a dreamy expression on her face. She peered down the row at her classmates and picked out the familiar features of Lisa Turpin.
Leaning in so she could be heard over the racket coming from the Gryffindor and Slytherin tables, she said calmly, "I was just reading through my Arithmancy notes. Wouldn't it be rather funny if we could reverse the mathematics and include a reflex method so the answer came out to the highest prime? I was thinking, it would be quite useful to finally settle that once and for all, you know."
Luna assumed the lack of response was a sign to continue, so she added, "Daddy says that the Quibbler would pay fifty galleons to the person who could prove the highest prime, after all."
Her smile turned dreamy once more and she leaned back in her seat, obviously assuming that she had presented her case well enough, and that she had given Lisa Turpin something to think on.
