~About Your Character~
What is your character's full name? Marlow Marie Linney
Character's age? 16
Give a detailed physical description of your character: When Marlow was first born, everyone in her family associated her with her father. They had the same dark features and the same big smile. When he left, no one mentioned it anymore and Marlow soon forget what her father even looked like. She began to admire her features, not because she looked like her father, but because she looked like herself. She looked like Marlow Marie Linney.
Akin with her dark features, Marlow had dark chocolate brown eyes which were almost too big for her petite face. They were lined with long, dark lashes and topped with dark eyesbrows. While she wore little make-up, that didn't stop her from adding a little mascara here and there. Her dark, auburn hair fell to about her shoulder blades in long layers that ended in a bit of a curl. In her younger days, it was really a ponytail of frizz, but as she got better with her Witch Weekly charms, she smoothed it out almost everyday of her life. The shortest in her family, she came in at a little over 5 feet, and no one let her forget it. Marlow had a slender, but not skinny body frame. Though, she had to admit, she didn't do much to keep it that way. She was a sucker for anything with sugar, and never deprived herself.
Thanks to that love for sugar, her and her skin battled everday. She had recently gotten it under control and was hoping to keep it that way. She really enjoyed the creamy color of her skin, and it was irritating to see red blemishes popping up every so often. Speaking of her skin, light freckles were scattered across the bridge of her nose, and regardless of the spells she would try, nothing could get rid of them. Ah, the joys of being a teenager...
Describe his/her personality - including fears, hobbies, interests, habits, strengths & weaknesses: Marlow likes to think that she is the bravest, strongest and smartest girl in the world. She likes to think that all the boys watch after her in the hallways, and that the reason only one boy asked her to the Yule Ball was because all the rest were too shy. You know, why shouldn't she think that way? She shouldn't, because it isn't true. It would be impossible, and she gets it. Like every other sixteen year old witch in Hogwarts, she wishes she could be perfect. Marlow Linney is far from it.
First off, she procrastinates like it is her job, and puts practically everything off until minutes before it's due. She'll always remember the day in third year when she never finished her Potions essay. She tricked Colin Creevey into writing the rest during Lunch, and had to serve two weeks detention with Snape after he realized the handwriting difference. That was another thing, she was sometimes very lazy. Chores were never something she did, and she must owe her younger brother, Nico, more money than she'll make in her lifetime. Marlow had a quick temper, and unfortuneatley jumped to conclusions fairly quickly. She didn't know why she was so prone to aggravation, but it always hit her like a ton of bricks. Her aunt Mildred joked that maybe Marlow was a bit of a manic depressive, and sometimes, Marlow would believe her.
From reading that past paragraph, you would probably think that Marlow was right under there with You-Know-Who, but she had her good points too. With that quick temper came a fieirce loyalty to any and all of her family and friends. She knew what it was like to loose someone, and would go to the ends of the earth if something happened to a friend of hers. For Merlin's sake, she didn't even want to think about what would happen if something happened to her mother or brother! With the Second War, that was one of her biggest fears in life. Marlow was a muggleborn. If a Death Eater or You-Know-Who ever came after her family? She shuddered to think of what would happen. In fact, she sometimes cried about it when falling asleep. Not that she would admit that to anyone though. Marlow had far too much pride, and was too bold to let anyone know if she was feeling scared or helpless. Instead, she bundled it all inside and let her insides deal with her craziness. She figured it probably wasn't too healthy, but what could she do? She didn't want to seem silly to everyone else. That was the last thing she wanted.
One of Marlow's biggest interests was, ironically, Potions. Before her acceptance letter from Hogwarts, she always listened to that muggle song, 'Love Potion No. Nine' and thought about how rad it would be if that could actually happen. When playing with friends back in secondary school, potions and brewing were almost always apart of her pretending. She enjoyed everything there was in being a witch. She longed for those hectic Saturday morning Quidditch matches and craved those long nights by the fireplace in the Gryffindor Common Room. Hogwarts was that second home, she never knew she could have.
Give the names of all members of your character's immediate family: Mother - Victoria Linney, 35
Brother(younger) - Nicolas Linney, 13
Explain his/her history: Whether is was very late in the night, or very early in the morning Marlow Marie Linney was born whenever on April, the fourteenth. She was born to a young and carefree couple in the village of Ottery St. Catchpole, on the anniversary of the day her parents met. Victoria always told her daughter that is was love at first sight. That Sebastian Linney was the most charming, and romantic man she had ever had the luck of meeting. Marlow didn't quite know the story, but somehow it had to do with saving her mother from walking into what must have been a very dangerous garden (Marlow never quiet understood that part). From then on, it was history.
That was exactly how Marlow remembered it. Just history. After the birth of Marlow's only sibling, her brother Nicolas, Sebastian Linney left them. No one really knew when, but she sensed it was in the middle of the night. At the time she was only three, but the memory of her mother crying at the kitchen table was a vision she was never going to forget. Miraculously, that was the very end of Marlow's childhood. As she grew older, she began doing all she could to make her mother's life easier for her. She would cook dinner after getting home from school, and babysat her brother whenever her mother had a new job interview. She knew that wasn't how Mrs. Linney imagined her daughter's childhood, but she was grateful to have a little helping hand everyday. It took a large load off of her mind.
Aside from the first day she kissed a boy (on the money bars, and than she pushed him off), the day she recieved her letter from Hogwarts marks her favorite day of her life. It was an average morning, and she was eating her usual breakfast when there was a sudding tapping on the window above her kitchen sink. She was alone, and got up quietly from her seat at the table and opened the latch on the window. As the owl dropped her letter in her hands, Marlow knew that something in her life had finally clicked. After screaming with astonishment, and waking up her mother, her's days of playing pretend were somehow coming true and she couldn't be more estatic.
Marlow's past five years at Hogwarts have been anything but ordinary. How could they be when you're attending a school for witchcraft and wizardry? Strange things happened everyday, and seemingly, they became more and more normal everyday she was there. She kept mainly to herself, though she did make good friends with the students in her own year. She was particularly good friends with the boys in Gryffindor, but it was far easier to befriend guys. There wasn't that cattiness that came with befriending a girl. She had never quite gotten along with girls all too well, and while her mother always said it was jealously, Marlow never payed mind to that. She just figured she was more a tomboy and she liked it that way. It suited her far more.
Her first year at Hogwarts had been extrodinary. During the first semester , everything about the castle interested her. When she had off-breaks she spent her time strolling through the castle and looking for secret passageways. She had remembered an old muggle film set in a Welsh castle and they has secret passageways. Wouldn't Hogwarts have them too? She just knew they did, and even found one once! It had caved in though, and she could never stay around long enough to see if she could get through it. Professor Snape was always lurking around the corner ready to take points away if she even got a bit close. Bugger. She figured she couldn't complain, though. Who else did she know back home that was getting to go to a magic school? No one, that's who. Her first year wasn't all fun and games though. The rumours of You-Know-Who, and Professor Quirrell forced Marlow to keep her guard up for her remainder at Hogwarts. Was He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named really lurking beneath Hogwarts? Was it possible with Professor Dumbledore around? Marlow believed that anything was possible, but wasn't quite ready to believe Harry Potter just yet. She respected his past, but his present was what made her weary. In her second year, she found out that Harry was a Parstletounge, and that frightened her dreafully. She had read about them in her DADA book over the summer, and was suspicious of Harry for some time during her second year. It wasn't until Hermione Granger was petrified that Marlow's suspicians of Harry wore off. She wanted to believe that it wasn't him, and she scolded herself at believing a boy her age could be so ruthless and evil! No one was that corrupt at 12, were they?
Harry saving the day once again, made Marlow's return for her third year a piece of cake. She was becoming closer with her friends at Hogwarts and even developed a crush! Can you believe it? Marlow Linney, the-girl-who-pushes-boys-off-monkey-bars, was falling in love! Was it love? Marlow liked to believe it was, but looking back now, she laughs at her immaturity. The boy of course, was George Weasley. He was two years ahead of Marlow, but that never changed anything. He let her hang around him and Fred and even went as far as teaching her how to cast fake facial hair. It was quite a blast watching George walk around with a black handlebar mustache for a week or so. Marlow also experienced her first bit of heartbreak in her third year. No, it wasn't George Weasley. It was learning that her favorite teacher would not be coming back the following year. Maybe it was her muggleborn ignorance, but she didn't see what was so wrong with Professor Lupin. So he happened to transform into a werewolf once a month, big deal. He had been fine all year, hadn't he?
Always a sucker for competition and dancing, Marlow's fourth year at Hogwarts was by far--her favorite and her most hated. On one hand, she had the honor of accompanying George Weasley to the Yule Ball. That was a night she certainly was never going to forget. They had promised each other it was only as friends, but they managed to have a great time in spite of that. Marlow's dress robes were a pale, and soft yellow silk and she pinned her hair neatly in a mass of curls at the nape of her neck. He told her she looked beautiful and despite her girlish insecurities, she forced herself to take his word for it. That was the last real happy moment of her fourth year. Things just came crashing down around her after the Third Task. She wasn't really rooting for either Cedric or Harry, but to have one of them die? Marlow had experience loss, but nothing like the death of someone she saw everday of her life! It was at that time that Marlow began believing in everything Harry had ever said during his stay at Hogwarts. How could he had been making it all up when Cedric was lying there dead? It was You-Know-Who, and it was then that her nightmares began.
Last year, Marlow grew very cold toward life at Hogwarts. She had become a bit neurotic about You-Know-Who, and for the sake of her family, she had a right to be. Whether they were out in the open or not, things were happening. You didn't have to be Harry Potter to know what was going on. The look in the eyes of her teachers told her as much. They were far more strict, and lines or worry appeared around the corners of their eyes. She suspected something far earlier than Umbridge's attempt at takeover. Umbridge. That wretched, foul woman. The way she treated everyone was a joke and Marlow couldn't bear her. She was unusually quiet, and never asked a question or answered one from her. She was feign sick to get out of her class, and ignored her as much as possible. Was it the right, mature thing to do? No, probably not, but Marlow knew she wasn't very good with confrontation. She would either loose her temper or worse, get detention with the woman. She was not looking forward to a night like that.
The rumours of what happened at the Department of Mysteries was something that worried Marlow a great deal. She wasn't sure she could ever have handled what happened in there, and respected Harry, Hermione, Ron & Ginny Weasley, Luna Lovegood and Neville Longbottom alot more than she think they realized. They did something very important that night, and Marlow knew she would stand with them in the end.
Wand Type: Holly, 6 inches, Dragon Heartstring
Blood Type: As far as she knows? Muggleborn.
Student's Year: 6th
Which house would your character prefer? Gryffindor
Why? Her mother often jokes that she gets her guts from the Italian in her, but Marlow has always had that firey streak in her. From the days of beating up boys at her old secondary school, to finally standing up to Millicent Bulstrode after years of riducrule, Marlow feels she was meant to be in Gryffindor.
Give an example of your role-playing: As Marlow trudged down the stone steps of the dormitory, she wrapped her scarf tightly around her neck, and buttoned the clasp around the neck of her cloak. More snow fell the night before, and Marlow felt the cold all the way down to her toes. If not for the lively fire in the Common Room, she was sure that she would have froze to death right then and there. There was scarcely anyone in the common room, except for a few sleepy first years, and Marlow was not in the mood to be cornered by any of them. She wasn't sure she was in the mood to play Wizards' Chess with them, especially when she noticed all the broken pieces lying about the floor around them.
Stepping outside of the portrait, she made her way down the empty hallways and down the countless stairways before making her way down the Entrance Hall. She had never seen the castle so empty before on Christmas break. She supposed it was because of the latest headline from the Daily Prophet.
'Another Death Eater breaks loose!'
Too bad Mum doesn't read the Prophet, Marlow though to herself with a scowl.
Mrs. Linney decided to leave her at Hogwarts alone this holiday while she took Nicolas visit their great-aunt Bernie. Of course, she didn't fancy aunt Bernie all the much, but she could have dealt with the old cats and stale cake. Being alone in the Hogwarts castle never seemed so lonely before, but with most of her friends gone, it was certainly putting her in a foul mood.
Not exactly minding where she was going, Marlow made on step into the Great Hall and came crashing into a tall figure.
Well, through was more like it.
"My dear, Miss Linney!" Nearly-headless Nick exclaimed as he proceeded to brush himself off.
Marlow didn't quite see the point, but made sure not to mention this too him.
"I'm dreadfully sorry, Nick." Marlow said with a frown. "I wasn't really watching where I was going, was I?"
"I should say not!" He replied, as he jutted his chin up in the air. Marlow wasn't quite sure he got the effect he achieved, as he head then snapped back and than rolled to its side. "Oh, for Merlin's sake!"

Oi, I know it wasn't mention in GoF if George did take anyone, so I thought it wouldn't make much difference. Hope you like it!
