My Brother In Afghanistan
Hello everyone, I would just like to ask you all to keep my brother in your thoughts.
He is in the Army and is going to Afghanistan. He is a soldier in the Infantry, Rank E5 Seargant, and just re-enlisted last year.
He'll be in Afghanistan, in the Hindu-Kush mountain region for 13 months, but I won't have a chance to see him for about 2 years, as he will have to spend 6 months after returning without any leave and kind of like quarantined (OK, I know that's not what it's called, and that it isn't it exactly the same thing). At any rate, he will be back at his base in Hawaii (Scoffield Barracks), and as I live in Ohio, we will not be seeing each other again soon. At least I hope not, as I fear that the only way I would see him before then is if something horrible happened, so I really hope I don't see him (am I a laughing or crying now).
The mission and location are "classified", but I believe I can say that they will be searching for members of the Taliban and Al-Queda.
He is 27 years old, and being 12 years younger than I am, he is very much like my baby as well as my brother, and there is hardly another person in the world I care about as much as him, only my honey comes close!
I know that there are some other people at this forum who are in military families (I grew up in the Air Force as well), and many other kind and caring people here, so I would like to ask you all to keep him in your thoughts.
Thank you very much, Angie

Re: My Brother In Afghanistan
Angie, I'm glad you decided to post this. As a momma who just went through worrying that baby girl was gonna be sent to Iraq, I can feel a little bit of your worry. My baby got to stay in the states (She's 20) but just the fact the unit was being sent had me sooo worried.
He will continue in my thoughts. I do understand about the hoping you don't see him sooner. Unless its a case of Mission Accomplished.

Re: My Brother In Afghanistan
Your both in my thoughts and prayers.
Angie, I hope you brother stays safe and away from harm. It must be hard for you, not being able to see your brother for so long, I know I would be devasted if I couldn't see mine ... you are both in my thoughts
Shony, I had no idea you has a daughter in the miltary, I'm happy for you and your family that she gets to stay in the states and doesn't get sent to Iraq .... it's still so unsettled there ... it must have been such a worry for you

Re: My Brother In Afghanistan
Thanks guys! Shony, I'm gald your daughter is getting to stay here too! I know what you mean about the crossing the street thing, lol. I also have a nephew in Iraq. He is 19, just graduated in May, went to basic training the following weekend, and shipped out to Iraq in January!!! We're thinking, "hey we know this kid -- he is too young, how successful does the Army really think he's going to be over there????". Scary thought! He's an MP and is guarding a prison.
At least with my brother I'm secure in the fact that he *is* older, has several years of military under his belt, is the leader of his unit, has always done well at all he's attempted, etc. He has 2 Black Belts in Martial Arts, went through EMT Training (scored very high), and was a Sheriff's Deputy with Police Academy Training before he left for the Army. So anyway, lol, not to brag too much, but to show how much more secure I can *sometimes, in a way* feel. But I have to say I truly worry and fear for some of these younger "kids" with seemingly so little experience. Perhaps I'm not giving them enough credit, but on the other hand, I'm a teacher, and hey, I see these kids, you know? .
