New Boat Leak Problem
Just when I thought I had my leak problem (crack in my keel up forward) fixed I find yesterday there's still a good deal of water coming in. The good news is I know where it's coming from. Long story short, when I built the center console I removed everthing to the bare hull. When the back deck was finished, I had a custom metal fabricator build me a combination, rear splash well and support for the aft edge of the rear deck. What he built was basically a 3 sided box, with the bottom of the box (missing the vertical side) butting up against the wooden transom.
That edge both bottom and the vertical seams, where sealed with 3M 5200. Yesterday after washing off the boat, I noticed daylight between the edges of that bead of 5200. Without any problems I pulled the entire piece of adhesive out. Hind sight is 20/20 and they should have put a 4th side on to match the angle of the transom to insure a sealed splashwell. God knows when I'm going to get a "permanent repair done" and to do that right the outboard will have to come off. I'm thinking to put that off for the winter and seal it up with something good, but flexable. I've got a drop light in the splashwell and will continue moving it around all week to dry things out. A little sanding in the seam between the wood and aluminum and I should be ready to apply something.
Long post to get to the point, but there are a ton of "good" flexable sealants out there, any one better for this particular fix? Would like some feedback so I can get this done this week hopefully, thanks and tight lines.
