New Forum Update
Hi, all! Happy holidays!
Anyway, I thought you'd like a bit of an update on the new forums. I'm sorry to hear about Holly having so much trouble with the present forums; I can't imagine how many other potential posters/readers this may have affected. Isn't it ignorant how ezboard is "handling" that? Shooting themselves in the foot as it were.
The new forum will house all of the forums we currently have except the Cesspool. It's an animal all its own, and it will continue to live and breathe BUT apart from the new forum. When I say forum, I mean the whole group of CAKS message boards that we will now have. There were 11, but after talking to Don, it was decided to scale it back to about 7 due to potentially excessive overlap! Don and I have tested the new setup, and everything appears to be in working order.
I have cut and pasted nearly all the posts from the three "serious" forums we currently have, at least as of yesterday....and that was quite a job! There are a couple of quirks about that, and I hope it won't matter to any of you. I transferred whole threads and collected them as one post. So, for example, say I moved a thread/topic from here and that thread/topic had 10 posted individual messages. Well, all 10 messages will appear in one post in the new forum. Understand? Hopefully. Each posting has the individual poster's name and everything...well, you'll see. It's a little awkward, but it would have been insane for me to move each individual post one at a time. We're over 1000 posts in this forum alone, so transferring 1000 plus times....you get the picture. I got away with doing only 150 or so. One other quirk, and I have no idea how to fix this is that every one of these threads I moved are now listed as having been started by me! Of course, I only started a fraction originally! So, readers will have to open the posts to find out who actually started them! I think it's a minor thing....rest assured I'm not trying to hijack/take credit for all of your wonderful work!
Okay....why not move in today? Well, two reasons. I'm still fumbling with modifying the new board for password protection. There is also one message board, an announcement board, that I want to make exclusive to the administrators. In other words, no one but the administrators will be able to post there.
I guess I'm getting a little technical here, but I thought you might like to know what's taking so long and why I've been too busy to post here!
