Newbie seeking beta and/or opinions Hi all, I just finished the first part of my first "Alias" fanfic (my first fanfic ever if you don't count two extremely short and two dozen unfinished "seaQuest" stories from a few years back) and was hoping to find someone (or ones) to take a look at it and give me some honest feedback. It's an extremely weird premise that's been bugging me for a while and I finally just decided to go with it and see what happens. It's basically Syd/Vaughn, but then again, it's not, it's sort of "Post ATY" and sort of AU, but really hard to explain. I'm looking for honest comments, not only the strange premise, but also on the execution and style. I have very thick skin, so comments such as "this is stupid, you should stick to reading and forget about the writing" are not unwelcome. I've been lurking here for about a month and I know this board isn't as active as it used to be, but I've enjoyed reading the insightful comments. Anyway, if anybody could help me out and read this (short) first part, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Desda "I've got an idea. Why don't we all go to Mount Sebacio, huh?"--Agent Weiss |

Re: Newbie seeking beta and/or opinions
Um, I'm honest... very honest.
Perhaps a bit harsh, perhaps a bit critical. But honest. I can read it... at your own risk. =) |

Re: Newbie seeking beta and/or opinions Yeah, and Brian also doesn't respect fan fic. Take that as you will. I'll look at it for you if you like. Send it to akathorne@hotmail.com. It might take a day to get back to you, but I'd be glad to do it. Thorne |

Re: Newbie seeking beta and/or opinions Desda, I'd be happy to take a look as well - it might take me a day or so but if you want another set of eyes, my email's under my profile. Brian, I missed the first go-around when you critiqued some people's fic here a while ago, and I am actually really interested in hearing what you have to say about some of my stuff, esp coming from someone who is not as enamored with the fic world as the rest of us. Would you have the time or impulse to read over something I've wrote? I'd be happy to return the favor the next time you get stuck with an English assignment (missed that go-around as well, it was finals hell week) - but I would appreciate an outsider's perspective... and Thorne, stop causing such pesky trouble and haul your ass online. Re: Newbie seeking beta and/or opinions Desda, Welcome! I was thrilled to see that people are posting here again. I've missed it. Thorne and Jess both have beta'd for me in the past. They are wonderful and honest. I'm excited to see a new writer asking for a beta reader. I think betas are wonderful. (Okay, I know they are bad betas out there, but I haven't had one yet.) Robin |

Re: Newbie seeking beta and/or opinions Wow...thanks for the response. In backwards order of the responses: Robin--thanks for the encouragement. As a former English major/teacher it's against my nature to ever "publish" anything unedited, so I think betas are wonderful. Jess and Thorne--thanks so much for offering to look at this, I'm really in no hurry, the original idea has been in my head since right after "The Box Part II" (although it's been very much changed since then) I work slowly. So thanks again, I'll get it off to you both tonight, get to it whenever you can. Oh, and Jess, I love your "title" and while Will isn't in this first part, I definitely have plans for him in the story. Brian, I'll send it off to you, I really don't mind harsh criticism. This is extremely weird, and in a rough state stylistically (I think I may want to do some things with italics, spacing, etc. Thanks again to everyone. "I've got an idea. Re: Newbie seeking beta and/or opinions Brian--the English degree only means I know what I'm supposed to do, not that I can do it So I'm sending my very rough first draft out. Again, I warn you, it's weird, so fire away. "I've got an idea. Why don't we all go to Mount Sebacio, huh?"--Agent Weiss |

Re: Newbie seeking beta and/or opinions
Just wanted to thank the people who looked at my story and commented and for the words of encouragement here. I decided to let this particular story die as the further I got into it, the more I realized it really didn't have much of a point other than being a big ball of melodrama and angst.
Thanks again. "I've got an idea. Why don't we all go to Mount Sebacio, huh?"--Agent Weiss |
