A heavy frost has descended on the castle, looking more like snow has fallen than anything. Yet by midmorning, the frost has melted off leaving quite a muddy trek for anyone heading down to CoMC. The wind is dreadfully chilly so don't forget your house scarf if you're heading out anywhere farther than the castle. Even the lake is beginning to show tinges that winter is rapidly approaching.
On Role-Playing in General
ON ROLEPLAYING IN GENERAL
1. Remember that we are a highly canon game. We request (and it's highly recommended) that all players have read all five books in the Harry Potter series. You need to have decent knowledge of the Harry Potter universe and the characters therein. Of course, a knowledge of EVERYTHING isn't required, so long as you know where to look. The Harry Potter Lexicon (a link is provided in the sidebar) is a wonderful resource and is highly recommended by the admins.
2. Probably the most important rule is to stay in character. Know your characters inside and out. This is one of the most important things to effective role-playing. Remember that house rivalries do exist... And, for example, we know that Severus Snape and Harry Potter don't exactly care for each other. It may happen in the fandom, but it's not canon. Just stay in character, that's all we ask. And, don't forget about the character workshops. Those will help you to further develop your character.
3. No perfect characters... in other words, no Mary Sues or Gary Stus. You know what we speak of, the characters who are always perfect at everything, gorgeous, popular, knows every spell in the book, is super powerful, half-veela, etc. Their eyes change colours when they're upset... that sort of thing. Just be original when you create a character. The same thing goes for Canon characters that don't have a lot of background. Keep them original, but don't go overboard. Similarly, pureblooded wizards are rare. Not everyone is a pureblood. Just keep that in mind.
4. We shouldn't have to remind people of this but recently applicants have forgotten an important fact about Hogwarts: Hogwarts is a uniform school. Grey sweater with cuffs and neck decorated with House colors. House badge over the left breast. Girls wear a dark grey pleated skirt and knee socks, boys wear grey pants. Ties with the House colors are worn around the neck by both sexes, tucked under the collar of a white oxford-style shirt. Robes over the Hogwarts uniform are two-clasp and black, hitting around the ankles, and have the House badge over the left breast as well.
Muggle clothing can be worn on weekends but if you're describing your character and don't relegate those special clothes to weekend and holiday wear, you will not be allowed in. If you wore those, you'd lose House points everyday and your Housemates would kill you or burn the clothes to solve the problem.
5. There is a limit for members of six characters. This is an effort to prevent players from ripping their hair out when it comes to class posting and also to make sure every character accepted is given an equal chance to be played. Also, you may only apply for one character at a time - you may play up to six, but only one application will be considered and accepted at a time.
Note: If members already have six or more characters, we are *not* requiring you to drop them - no ex pos facto and all that. However, you will not be allowed to have new characters. If your characters are split over multiple accounts, this rule still applies to you - one player for six characters max. (And, this doesn't really apply as we've bumped UP the number of characters, but I liked the turn of phrase, so it's going to stay in the rules)
To show you have read these rules, please write 'H-ANA RR' in the application slot where it says 'Code'.
