Otto Renfrew Biederman
--------------------------------------------------------------------
~About You~
Your preferred name: (What can we call you?) Angel! *kiss* Lol. Toni.
~About Your Character~
What is your character's full name? Otto Renfrew Biederman
Character's age? 15 [DOB: December 7th, 1981]
Give a detailed physical description of your character:
As identical twins, Otto and Willem Biederman share bodies that are almost exactly alike in appearance, with few, barely noticeable differences. Like his brother, Otto stands at an average height of five foot, seven inches -- Not a bad height for a still growing young man. His frame, weighing in at a healthy 153 lbs, is thin and sinewy, with broad shoulders that seem out of place on his thin body.
His skin, unlike his brother's who prides himself in his personal hygiene, is dotted by puberty induced pimples, mainly across his forehead. His skin tans easily during the summer, while naturally, its the shade of light honey.
Otto's face, lean and oval in shape, has soft, aquiline features. Rosy cheeks and high cheekbones convey a childlike appearance; An appearance that is only but skin deep. Otto's nose is slightly wide and protruding, rounded at the tip yet well centered in his face. Very light, barely noticeable due to his natural skin colour, freckles are sprinkles across the bridge of his nose.
Behind a wide mouth and full lips reside healthy, white teeth. His mother, Lowri Biederman, a muggle-born witch, believed heavily in muggle-style dental hygiene, and insisted on taking her sons to the dentist every six months, as is recommended.
His dark blue eyes are framed by long, thick lashes; The kind that females dream of having, yet few have without the help of cosmetic aid. Otto's eyes, unlike his brother Willem's, are truly windows to his soul. As he's usually a good natured boy, they shine with a warm, kind light. His eyes are topped by heavy brows, a bit darker in colour than his curly, dirty blonde hair. Otto keeps his thick curls slightly longer than his brother's, and has a habit of running his fingers through them instead of a comb.
Otto's body is slender with long limbs and well proportioned feet. His palms are square, with long fingers that taper down to even, rectangular fingernails. As far as clothing is concerned, when not wearing the standard Hogwarts uniform of black robes, dark gray pants, a tie and Oxford shirt, Otto prefers a more casual look. Hooded sweaters, blue jeans, cotton T-shirts and sneakers suit the boy just fine.
Describe his/her personality - including fears, hobbies, interests, habits, strengths & weaknesses:
Otto is a very laid back, good-natured boy who seems to constantly swing between being balmy and serious. The latter emotion is only displayed when called for, such as in the classroom or in matters dealing with his family. Family is vastly important to Otto. There's nothing he'd rather do than spend time with his twin, Willem Romney Biederman, and his younger sister, Christina.
He loves to laugh, and have others laugh with him. When he's not currently broadening his knowledge of the world, Otto enjoys spending his time joking about with his friends and attempting to woo girls. Not at all a shy boy, he's very outspoken, outgoing, and unafraid to approach people. It makes him an easy person to talk to; Someone whom most people feel comfortable around.
Otto's first passion will always be learning. He was rightly placed into Ravenclaw, for his thirst for knowledge and natural curiosity outweighs any inhibitions he might have. He's a very open-minded individual, and has learned to simply accept differences in people. Otto likes to read, and has acquired quite an impressive personal library for a boy of fifteen.
He hates to feel inferior. Its a complex that fuels his ambition to know everything he can, and drives him to do well in everything he does. Otto is easily frustrated by his own failures, and once he realizes that it might be impossible for him to be perfect at something, he soon gives up.
Otto's a very smart boy, and is capable of keeping a cool head in chaotic situations. This makes him a good Quidditch player, and also a fairly good student in Potions class. After fifteen years of naturally being good at a wide array of things, its only natural, yet quite unfortunate, that Otto has developed a bit of an ego. Its up to his brother and friends to poke him sometimes, so that the air may escape from his head before it becomes too full and lifts him off the ground.
Give the names of all members of your character's immediate family:
Father: Heinrich Biederman [45]
Mother: Lowri Barlow-Biederman [42]
Sister: Christina Biederman [10.]
Explain his/her history:
A lot of things happened in the year of 1978. Voldemort was at the peak of of his power, his name was feared by wizards and witches all around the world, and his army of Death Eaters, Dementors, giants and more unspeakable horrors seemed to be the supreme power in the world of magic. Seeing the Dark Mark light up the sky was a daily occurrence, and showed no sign of lessening. The English Ministry of Magic was desperate for any help they could get, and called in for reinforcements constantly.
Heinrich Biederman was an Auror from Berlin, Germany. Only but one of the many who were sent to try and overthrow the Dark Army. Soon after arriving at his new post, he and another man were sent to investigate rumours of a planned attack in central London. The rumours proved to be correct, and Heinrich and his partner were faced with two dangerous Death Eaters who were wanted for the harassment of a young group of muggleborns. Though the odds were even enough, the Death Eater's knowledge of the Dark Arts outweighed any weapons the two Auror's had. Heinrich was injured during the battle, and was transported to St. Mungos' Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries instantly.
There he would meet Lowri Barlow, a twenty-four year old nurse from Wales who captured his heart from the moment they met. Within a year, they were married and living in a quaint house in Pembrokeshire, Wales. Heinrich, upon request, became a permanent employee to the English Ministry of Magic. Both Heinrich and Lowri came from middle-class families, who's wealth was just enough to keep them comfortable and well fed. As an Auror and a Healer, the couple managed to carry on their accustomed way of life.
Three years into their marriage, Lowri, now age twenty-seven, was rushed to St. Mungos' with a belly swollen with child. After only a few minutes of hard labour, Willem Romney Biederman was born. He did not cry, or make much noise at all, to the surprise of the Healers. As soon as they turned their backs, however, intending to go clean up the new born baby, Lowri screamed with language I shan't repeat that there was another one coming. Otto Renfrew Biederman entered the world even quicker than his twin, and was loud enough in his yelling to make up for his brother's silence.
Heinrich, though very happy about the additions to his lovely family, was faced with one problem early on; While he was a loving, adoring husband, he simply did not know how to act around his two sons. It's not that he was cold towards them, exactly. He was no abusive, nor did he ever raise his voice beyond a very loud speaking tone. Heinrich simply did not show his feelings around his children.
Otto and Willem were close from the start. Sure, there were the minor quarrels over toys, sweets from their grandmother, and other small things of that sort. But that's normal between siblings, and other than that, they got on fine. At five years of age, yet another addition to the Biederman family came along, this time in the form of a baby girl. Lowri named her Christina, after her aunt whom she loved dearly.
The boys adored their new baby sister. As she grew older, they became both her protectors and her tormentors. There was nothing more fun than teasing her about being a girl, pinching her arms and pulling her braids. But beware to any other kid who thought to make fun of their sister!
As can only be considered natural, Otto and Willem grew apart as they grew older. While Willem took interest in money and personal hygiene, Otto became interested in sports. He loved playing with the other neighborhood kids, whether they were magical or just plain muggles. It didn't matter, as long as they were willing to play with him. He learned how to play soccer, and other fun muggle games such as chase, capture the flag, sardines, and even hide and go seek.
Otto also became acutely aware of his surroundings. His curiosity grew rapidly, and soon his mother and father no longer had all of the answers to his questions. Unfortunately, he never became quite as good at saving money as Willem did. As soon as he was handed a coin, he squandered it on books or sweets, and small, useless things such as trading cards and marbles.
At the age of ten, to his delight, both Otto and Willem received their acceptance letters to Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The young boy ran about the house, jumping around excitedly and anticipating the day they'd board the Hogwarts Express. His first train ride was not quite as exciting as Otto would have liked, yet Hogwarts Castle was everything he had hoped it would be. Along with his brother and all of the other first years, he lined up in front of the staff table and awaited his sorting. As their last name began with a 'B' they did not have long to wait.
Otto was aptly sorted into Ravenclaw, and expected his brother to be the same. Surely he too, would become one! They did everything together, and this would be no different...But Willem was sorted into Slytherin, not Ravenclaw, like his brother. Otto was disappointed, to say the least, yet within the first few weeks discovered that it did not matter much -- They could still do everything together. Well, almost everything.
His first year at Hogwarts proved to be a complete nightmare. The legendary Chamber of Secrets had been opened, and a horrific monster was loose, attacking muggle-born students. As his mother was a muggle-born witch, Otto became quite frightened and chose to travel in groups with other Ravenclaw students. By the end of the year, rumour had it that the famous Harry Potter had defeated the monster, and Otto, who had full faith in The Boy Who Lived, returned for his second year feeling safe in the castle walls.
During his third year at the school, Hogwarts hosted the Tri-Wizarding Tournament; An event that Otto was all too excited to witness. The first two challenges were suspenseful and fun to watch, but the real event of the year seemed to be the Yule Ball. Sadly, Otto was too young to attend, yet by the end of the year, a ball seemed such a small thing to be worried about.
After hearing Dumbldore speak of Voldemort's return, Otto went home for the summer feeling very confused. As his father was an employee of the Ministry, he was told to believe what the Daily Prophet wrote about Harry Potter and Albus Dumbledore. Yet somehow, there were gaps of information in what the Daily Prophet was saying. Now that, Otto simply could not deal with. He wouldn't make judgments until a point was proved to him.
The twins returned home at the end of term, knowing the truth about Voldemort's resurrection. Otto is not exactly frightened, as he'd never been personally affected by Voldemort's cruelty. Soon, however, he'd learn to fear what he was capable of.
Wand Type: Cedar, 12", Unicorn tail hair.
Blood Type: Halfblood
Student's Year: 5th
Which house would your character prefer? Ravenclaw
Why? Otto is a very curious individual, who is interested in literally everything around him. He's got a thirst for knowledge, and always strives to do his best at everything. Otto is very open to differences in human kind, and only wishes to know exactly why we are different.
Give an example of your role-playing:
With a great sigh, Otto Biederman placed his worn looking eagle feather quill into the uncorked ink pot in front of him. The last few sentences of his essay still gleamed with moisture upon his parchment, and with a satisfied grin, the blonde cracked his knuckles and leaned back in his chair. Around him, the Ravenclaw common room was filled with the soothing mixture of chatter, the sound of quills scratching on paper, and the gentle crackling of the fire.
It had taken him less time to finish the Potions essay than Otto had anticipated before. A quick look around told him that his friends were still working, brows furrowed as they leaned over their parchment. It had been unfair of Professor Snape to assign so much homework on a weekend. A foot long essay on the uses of armadillo bile, honestly! It really was no wonder that he was the least liked Professor at Hogwarts. Otto wondered briefly why the greasy haired jerk did it to himself.
The fifth year yawned, and stretched his limbs languidly. It was late, but not yet late enough to head up to the dormitory. Otto yawned again, before reaching down into his bad and retrieving a box of Bertie Botts, Every Flavour Beans and thick, in dark blue cloth bound book. When there was nothing to do, reading was always the answer...
