Please Read! This could save your chins life!
It has been almost two weeks since Curley died.

It wasn't his bad heart that was the problem, it was something called GI stasis. (I found out that chins with mur-murs is not common or heard of in either mutations or in standards.)

This disorder is usually seen in rabbits, although most vets do not know what this is, and or how to treat it. Because of that, alot of animals including chins and guinea pigs die an extremely painful death.

Reasons for this treatable disorder is usually blamed on poor diet, however this was not the case in Curley. If nothing else, I have gotten high praise for the diet I have my boys on. (BTW- go easy on the alfalfa. It's rich in calcium which can lead to kidney stones.)

Without getting into the whole long story, there are things that should have been done that were not to prevent Curley from dying. Although recovery from this disorder can be an extremely long one, the odds of him surviving would have been great if this problem was treated accordingly, not just as a "hairball" problem.

Because of all of this, I have learned of a list of drugs that should never, ever be used on chins. I will be creating a web page with all of this information on it. Once I have this page created, my advice would be to make a copy of that list and keep it on hand. In the event that one of your kids needs to be seen by a vet, you'll know what drugs (if any are recommened) to say "NO!" to.

The information on this link is exactly what happened to Curley. All the symptoms are exact, only they are talking about rabbits in this particular case.

I apologize if this seems to be "off topic." Curley is so greatly missed I am at a loss of words to describe how it feels. If horrendous tragedy saves in life of a chin or otherwise, my work will be done.
