I believe elves should be sorcerers, not wizards. Innate, spontaneous magic is truer to the elven archetype, IMO.

As described in D&D? Sorcerers. Tolkien's high elves, which the elves were initially based on in 1e before threats of lawsuits by the Tolkien estate? Wizards. The current favored class is a holdover.
