A heavy frost has descended on the castle, looking more like snow has fallen than anything. Yet by midmorning, the frost has melted off leaving quite a muddy trek for anyone heading down to CoMC. The wind is dreadfully chilly so don't forget your house scarf if you're heading out anywhere farther than the castle. Even the lake is beginning to show tinges that winter is rapidly approaching.

~About Your Character~
What is your character's full name? Disa Lauren Clavey
Character's age? 15
Give a detailed physical description of your character:
Though Disa’s fond of her dark hair and eyes, the contrast with her skin can make her complexion seem extremely pale, especially by winter. A couple of years ago she tried to use any spare time in summer to tan, and she was quite disappointed when come winter she was as pale as always. Since then she usually doesn’t bother, resigned to it just being part of who she is. Her hair falls reasonably straight around her shoulders, shorter parts framing her slightly rounded face. Her nose is straight not snub, and her mouth seems to look its most comfortable in a slight, amused smile, usually at a sarcastic or ironic thought that seems appropriate for the scene in front of her, though she rarely voices them.
Her eyes are a dark brown, usually taking in far more than people might expect, even when seemingly involved in another task. At 5 foot 4 inches she’s equal height to many of the girls at Hogwarts, and so’s never really thought about it since third year, when she finally began to catch up with her dorm mates. She wears two sets of ear studs, though the rules officially say only one’s allowed she’s never been in trouble for the extra set before, though whether it’s because her hair often covers them or it’s too small an infraction for teachers to bother with she’s not sure. She’s not naturally thin, and if it wasn’t for regular quidditch practices and her care over what she eats she’d probably be chubby. As it is however she’s happy with her appearance most of the time, and wouldn’t let anyone know if she wasn’t.
Her clothes are usually simple, well made and carefully chosen to flatter the things she likes about her figure. Though there are few bright colours, her clothes usually have detail she’s found interesting, whether it’s the cut, subtle patterns or oddly cut sleeves. Having grown up in the muggle world her weekend clothes usually consist of a pair of boots, fashionable, well fitting jeans, a pale purple long sleeved top and a black jacket with flared sleeves, a military neck and bright silver buttons.
Though Disa can get along well with people, mainly because she’s observant and knows when to bite her tongue, she doesn’t get close to people, never having really felt the need to before. She has friendly acquaintances, but certainly nobody she’d trust enough to consider a friend. She’s a realist when it comes to human nature, having spent many years observing it as somewhat of an outsider. She’s not unfriendly, but she’s unlikely to go out of her way to be friendly unless something about the other person particularly intrigues her.
Disa’s ambitious and motivated (or stubborn as her father would call it). When she sets her mind to achieving something she’s not likely to give up along the way. She can be competitive when pitted directly against someone, such as in Quidditch, but usually he doesn’t consider other people as threats, simply because she’s more interested in what she thinks of her actions or successes than what other people do. An intelligent person, Disa’s able to appreciate a nasty remark if it’s framed wittily (unless of course, it’s aimed at her), but she’s not unfeeling. Cruelty for no other sake than cruelty bothers her, and as a someone with one muggleborn parent and a muggle stepmother she used to often become irritated by the prejudices some of her house indulged. Over the years she’s become more used to it, but it still annoys her to hear such things mentioned casually. Though she especially dislikes actions based on these prejudices she doesn’t interfere with arguments or fights, and it’s unlikely she would unless someone she was attached to was involved. As at Hogwarts that’s no one, she’s never been involved.
Disa’s used to keeping her opinions to herself, not wanting to make waves within her house, but also preferring to release them when they’ll actually have an effect. She does very little without thinking carefully first. She comes across as quiet, but’s rarely mistaken for shy, what she does say she says confidently, secure in her abilities.
Flying’s something Disa always did to relax, which meant it took her a while to settle into the idea of playing Quidditch, as a match isn’t the most relaxing thing in the world. Once she did she enjoyed the competitive nature of it, and practised more than she was required to in order to improve her skills as beater. Writing, however, has and always will be her first love. The journalists she admires the most are those who’re able to write on complicated, delicate issues whilst remaining impartial, and she has nothing but scorn for tabloid journalists. Once she realised how important detail recall and having the full picture was to journalism she began specifically trying to observe everything and everyone properly, even when engaged in other tasks. Now she rarely becomes so engaged in something that she doesn’t hear what’s being said in the room she’s in, or’s too distracted to remember who she sat next to at breakfast.
Give the names of all members of your character's immediate family:
Mother: Annika Anderson (Swedish wizard – divorced from Disa’s father)
Father: Jonathan Clavey (muggleborn wizard)
Stepmother: Sophie Clavey (muggle)
Explain his/her history:
Disa spent the majority of her childhood in London, her parents owning an apartment on the outskirts of town, before the suburbs properly began. Her father was, and still is, a banker at Gringotts, and he met Annika for the first time at work, when she transferred over from their Stockholm branch. They were married less than a year later and Disa was born soon after. The parents agreed that if Annika chose the first name Jonathan could chose the middle name, and everything was well in the Clavey household until Annika ran off with an old boyfriend.
No, it wasn’t quite as sudden as it sounded, but to Disa it was. Considering she was only three at the time she knew nothing about her parents fighting as they always did their best to avoid doing so in front of her. When her mum disappeared back home and moved in with an old boyfriend, ending up in her parents divorce, Disa refused to see her mother’s side of the story. She still blames her mother for breaking up their family, and they’ve never been close since. The fact that she never saw her for more than a couple of weeks over the summer holidays after starting at Hogwarts didn’t improve matters much. Though Disa got along better with her father it was and is mainly because he leaves her be to do what she wants to. He’s quite involved in his new wife, and Disa is happy for them, just in more detached sort of way than she’d expected.
Disa attended a muggle primary school until she received her Hogwarts letter. Though she was aware of and had quite a bit to do with the magical world due to her father working in it, becoming enveloped in it at Hogwarts was more of a surprise than she’d thought it would be. Having wanted to be a journalist for a couple of years by then, she moped over the thought of working in the wizarding world until she realised not only the existence of the Daily Prophet, but that Hogwarts had its own school newspaper. She signed up eagerly, and writing (and the importance of the press) is one of the few things she allows herself to show obvious enthusiasm about. It’s quite possible that some of her enthusiasm stems from the power the press holds, though she’s quite passionate about the need for the unbiased, un-opinionated reporting of events.
Though few would have realised it, Disa’s first year at Hogwarts left her quite shaken by the end of the year. After Colin Creevey (who she’d known through using his photos in Lumos) was petrified she rarely went anywhere alone, tagging along with other groups when necessary. From someone who valued her independence this was quite unusual, and she was relieved when events were resolved and she could resume her usual habits. However this wasn’t without its frustrations, wanting to write a full report of events for the Lumos Disa discovered that despite all her listening it was going to be quite useless. There were more rumours flying around Hogwarts than she could count, and it was quite possibly none of them were actually true.
Second year, with dementors too close to the school for comfort and Sirius Black reportedly on the loose was no less eventful. It was second year when Disa realised that perhaps Hogwarts was always going to be this eventful. When the Pink Lady returned to her appointed position Disa attempted to ask her about the attack, but she became quite emotional and Disa left with the view that the Gryffindors had a wimp guarding their common room. Which she found rather amusing considering they were reputedly the brave ones. She was fascinated by the lack of information that once again surrounded ‘anything interesting’ at Hogwarts, and decided that next time she would get to the bottom of things.
The Triwizard Tournament seemed to her not the amazing thing the other students seemed to see it as. She observed it however, deciding to support Cedric Diggory (though not out loud) in the games. This was purely because of his looks, however, and Disa knew it well enough to be amused at her interest in him. The way the school viewed Harry Potter as a hero amused her at times, and after the first task would make up overly-dramatic commentaries of the tasks in her head as she watched them. It kept her interested, and meant she remembered events more clearly later. Reports on the triwizard tournament were mainly handled by a 5th year Gryffindor, something which galled her, especially considering his versions of events were far from unbiased. The conclusion of the Tournament shocked her, she had already imagined how it would end – either Cedric or Harry would get the cup, they’d shake hands and place the cup in the Hogwarts trophy cabinet together. The reality was far from what she’d imagined, and from things overheard in the Slytherin common room could tell that Harry had been telling the truth about Voldemort’s return. The report the newspaper printed however kept much from the Hogwarts students, and Disa was quite disgusted at this. She decided if she had anything to do with it she’d be the Lumos editor eventually, then she could say what stayed and what went.
If Disa hadn’t liked the difficulty in finding a story before, during her 4th year she found knowing she wouldn't be able to have honest reports printed was even worse. At one point she became so frustrated at the censorship within the school and the ridiculous state of the Daily Prophet on the outside that she walked angrily away from the school (so that she wouldn’t be heard) and yelled loudly in annoyance, following it up with a string of curses. It was the first time Disa had lost her temper in a while, and she was extremely glad to have Dumbledore return. Obviously she kept this to herself, she had no wish to be targeted within her own house.
Other than the newspaper she’s gradually become more and more invested in her position as a beater on the Slytherin team, she’s grown to enjoy the challenge and the feeling of improved ability.
Wand Type: Ash, ten and a quarter inches, dragon heartstring core. Blood Type: Pureblood
Student's Year: 5th Which house would your character prefer? Slytherin Why? Because she thinks before acting, is intelligent but doesn’t flaunt it unless it’s likely to help her get something she wants, and she’s extremely ambitious regarding her desire to be a journalist.
Give an example of your role-playing:
“I will not shut up you filthy little mudblood!”
Sighing in irritation under her breath at the term, Disa backtracked to the corrider she’d recently passed, where the argument was obviously coming from. Though usually she’d have simply continued on, from what she could see a fight would erupt any minute, and she knew that if they were going to kill each other this time she’d regret not having stayed to watch. She had no particular wish for either to win, there were benefits to both. Whilst she disliked Draco’s use of language she knew that if he lost he’d be in a bad mood for days, and he’d make sure the rest of the common room shared it. And so she decided staying to know whether to avoid the common room later was more important than the first tiny bit of class.
More interesting too come to think of it.
Professor Vector wasn’t going to breathe down her neck for being late, but a sarcastic comment about her gracing them with her presence wasn’t unlikely. The opportunity of five more minutes without having to work on hideous equations was too great an opportunity to miss. Which was what Disa thought as she watched the first punch thrown from the other end of the hall, unsurprisingly by one of the Gryffindors, Weasley. At the semi-accurate hit that he got in Disa winced mentally in sympathy. Malfoy might be a git, but he was a Slytherin git, and certainly didn’t deserve being hit by a Gryffindor.
Before anything more interesting could happen Disa heard the clacking of a teacher’s shoes on corridor flaw, and picking up her bag, stepped back against the wall. Her hope that the professor wouldn’t notice her when there were bigger, fighting, fish to fry proved correct, and Disa was walking quickly off to Arithmancy before the professor realised that she was out of class herself.
Just wondering, if I'm accepted, can I make a local account for her instead of using my global one?

Re: Student Application: Disa Clavey
Hiya Meaghan,
I'm quite impressed. Your writing style is very clear, and detailed without becoming too flowery. There are four minor things I'd like to see changed before we accept you, however.
--Blood Type. It's asked that you put down one of three things: Pureblood, Half Blood, or Muggleborn.
--The very first sentence of your physical description reads rather odd.
Quote:Dark hair and eyes combined with a pale complexion has meant Disa usually thinks she looks like a vampire come late winter, though she’s long given up on trying to gain a tan in summer that will last the year.
Read it to yourself, then read it out loud. Is there a better way of wording it?
--There's a lot more you could include in her history. She's been at Hogwarts for five years now, with things like the Triwizard Tournament and the rise of Voldemort going on. Describe her reactions to them. Even if she is just a bystander, she's got to have some sort of opinion.
Yay! Another Lumos! writer. I'm sure she'll fit right in.

Re: Student Application: Disa Clavey
Hiya!
Sorry for the wait, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to make you wait even longer. /: See, two of my fellow admins are rather busy at the moment, with college and work and...stuff. Yesh.
But I can say, I think it looks very nice .
And no, unfortunately I can't take credit for the AV. I don't have that kind of witty talent, *sigh*.
