The latest ezboard update
From the latest update...
Quote:
I’m pleased to announce that almost all servers have completed the first three steps of the restoral process, and we plan to start the final two steps on a server-by-server basis later today. Based on our testing, we expect boards that were active at the time of the attack to see a significant amount of data restored during these final two steps.
"boards that were active at the time of the attack" ... wonder WTF that means? I feel like this guy has been talking in circles and cryptic CYA lingo in every one of his messages. Does that mean someone had to have been actually posting on or viewing the board at the moment the "hacker" attacked the system?? If so, i don't think any of the boards i admin are getting any of their data back, but we won't know for another week or two because...

We anticipate that the final two restoral steps will take a total of seven to ten days to be completed.
:rolleyes

Methinks the heated posts from pissed off customers that have filled the help forums up to this point are nothing compared to what is coming. Some of them are downright entertaining though.

That's why I just decided to move forward as if the posts are just gone for good.

Re: The latest ezboard update
Probably a good idea, although there's probably still hope for your place since you post there pretty regularly...?

I (and several others) did go ahead and ask for clarification at the help forums of that vague statement by the CEO, and received this reply:
Quote:
Since most of our backups were destroyed in the backup, we had to use another method for restoring much of the recoverable content. This method uses data we saved from RAM, so the more active a board was at the time, the better. This does not mean that the board had to be in use at the precise time of the attack, but the more active of late, the better.
That gives me a slight glimmer of hope for the UU board and maybe even this one since i know both had been at least somewhat active in the last month (even a couple of posts would put them in RAM, i would hope?). But i'm thinking TCG and ILK are screwed.
