Unknown Mauser question
I stopped by a pawn shop today to see if they had any Mausers, and the clerk pulled down one that looked like a K98k. It was paper-tagged "Chinese Mauser". There are no Chinese characters anywhere on the wood or metal.

The top of the receiver was blank, the left side had a 4-digit serial number only. I didn't look at the right side. The bolt handle is bent down and the stock is cut out to accomidate the bolt handle.
There was a disassembly hole passing through the shoulder stock. It had double sling swivels, on the bottom and left side of the front ring (not the bayo ring), and the bottom and left side of the shoulder stock. The rear left sling mount was in a recess behind the stock bolt hole. There is no hole in the stock for the sling to pass through.
The front sight is not hooded but has ears. The rear sight was the common sliding scale marked from 2-19. The metal parts that were stamped with numbers were not matched. I saw NO inspection proofs at all. The overall milling and finish was very good and the stock was solid (I think) without alot of bruises. The cleaning rod was missing. The bore was dirty with good rifling.
It was marked $279.
Any thoughts?
