Which couple?
Which couple do you love most? You always read about the relationship between Amalthea and Lir, but I have always liked Molly and Schmendrick more. Agree? Disagree? (I'll give my reasons if people wish to discuss.

well i've never read the book so i'm not sure what it goes into but i like Molly and Schmendrick

They are the two best characters!

I like Molly because she's intuitive and empathetic. She always feels what the other person is feeling.

Another example, is how she is always trying to help Prince Lir with his poetry and his courtship of Amalthea. It's something I admire in any person.
I like Schmedrick because he is intelligent and clever.
He is a master of riddles, and usually is the one to solve problems in the book. Another admirable quality.
And you can't overlook his good sense of humor...

Sometimes Lady Amalthea can be self-centered and snobby. Prince Lir can also come off that way. I can't help but think that Beagle was making fun of him when he was writing. He often describes Prince Lir in a girlish way, like have a girlish giggle, or being dumb.
I have nothing against the Lady Amalthea or Prince Lir. I like them both because I love the story and they help make it so beautiful and magical.
But the qualities I admire most in people are in Schmendrick and Molly.
Another great topic by the way. I like these in-depth conversations.
What were your reasons for choosing Molly and Schmendrick?

when i would watch the movie i always wanted them to develop shmendrick and molly's relationship more. the amalthea/lir relationship was always so cliche to me.
plus i didn't like the unicorn as amalthea....she's a unicorn...how could she not want to be a unicorn?
heck, i wanted to be a unicorn when i grew up (either that or a mermaid )

I have to agree with the whole Molly and Schmendrick thing. I mean, Amalthea and Lir's relationship is kind of just pure romanticism. It doesn't seem like anything terribly solid. It's sort of the difference between finding your first love and finding your soulmate. I guess that's a pretty big difference though!

Molly and Schmendrick, hands down, hehehe. They're so perfect. In the beginning, you could so tell they'd end up together. Remember how he'd always be jealous of her? ;x you know how boys tease the girls they like *snicker*

It's hard for me to pick.... I've never liked Lir and Amalthea as a couple in the movie, but I have always loved Molly and Schmendrick. However, I love Lir and Amalthea in the book. They didn't have a real relationship in the movie like they did in the book.
So, I like Molly and Schmendrick best in the movie, and Amalthea and Lir best in the book.
But of course I prefer the unicorn as a unicorn than as a human.
