Jennifer smiled. "Nice to meet you," she said plainly, nooding to Alanna and Cythera. "So, Alanna, how long have you been a captive?" Jennifer asked, running a hand through her glossy brown hair.
A study released proves that it is no possible for a human to become ‘high’ off sugar. A panel of 12 highly trained doctors conducted this study.
These ‘doctors’ only spent their whole lives training for this. What do they know? Stupid doctors...I CAN BE SUGAR HIGH IF I WANT TO, GOSH DARNIT!
Re: Breakfast, February 17
Cythera sat at the table, modestly quiet, and waited for Alanna to answer the question as she chewed on another piece of bread.
Re: Breakfast, February 17
Calanthe sniffed as she stepped daintly into the dining hall, trying not to look as if she was watching the small group of girls clustered around the bench out of the corner of her eye. She sat down not to far away from them and glared at the food as if it held poison. She coughed lightly in a subtle attempt to get the attention of the girls who sat near her, and then stared down at the table. She wasn't sure she liked this place. It was disgusting, and loud, and everyone was dressed like a commoner. Fluffing out her own lacy green dress, she smiled proudly that she did not make as bad an impression as they did.

Re: Breakfast, February 17
Kat looked around and saw a very snobby looking girl sitting by herself at a table near her. She didn't really blame her, the Convent did that to people, so she got up and smoothed out the wrinkles in her pale blue dress and went over.
"Hello, I'm Kat, pleased to meet you." she said in a very casual tone, waiting for the girl's reply, she sat down beside her.
Re: Breakfast, February 17
Calanthe sniffed again as she looked the girl over. She wasn'ts sure she approved of the casual tone. People should be respectful when speaking to her, especially her peers. "Kat of where?" she asked quickly. "Are you a noble? How do you eat this food?"

Re: Breakfast, February 17
Kat was a little suprised at the girl's response but she was blunt and Kat liked that. " My full name is Katherine of Dun Indewood and I try to avoid eating that food whenever possible. It's quite revolting. Who might you be? I've never seen you here before." She tried to sound more lady-like but she really hated talking like a lady.

Calanthe nodded, appeased. "I am Calanthe of Sigishold," she said regally. "I just arrived here last night, which must be why you haven't seen me before. And you are a noble, aren't you?" she added, almost anxiously. What if she had made a horrible mistake and this girl wasn't a noble at all, and was only pretending? And then Calanthe would have been caught talking to her, with the gods knew how many people watching. She wished her mother was here to tell her who was acceptable to speak to and who was not. The lady of Sigishold would have known in an instant.
Re: Breakfast, February 17
"Yes, I'm a noble. My fief is rather far from Sigishold though so you've probably never heard of it." she smiled.
'noone's ever heard of it!' she thought. "So, what do you think of the Convent so far?" she inquired, hoping someone else would hate it as much as her.

Re: Breakfast, February 17
"No, I haven't heard of your fief," Calanthe said. "And I think think the convent is disgusting. None of the Daughters that I've seen so far know what they're talking about... My brother could instruct them in proper etiquette if he were here. It's simply disgraceful." She gave an inner sigh of relief. So this 'Kat' person was a noble. That was a good thing. She hadn't made a mistake after all.
Re: Breakfast, February 17
Kat smiled inwardly again. "I'm not so concerned about etiquette, they won't let me take singing again this year and I have to go talk to the head mother about it!" she sighed. "It the only thing I like doing here."

Calanthe blinked. "Not concerned about etiquette? But that's the only way you'll ever find a husband, if you look like..." she stopped, blushing, and decided that perhaps she didn't want to insult Kat's appearance after all. She now felt rather sorry for the other girl. It seemed her priorities were not quite write. She put singing over etiquette? And singing was the only thing she liked? Not dancing, or embroidery, or.... anything else? Calanthe shook her head. What a sad, sad thing.
Re: Breakfast, February 17
Kat laughed slightly at Calanthe's statement. "Don't worry, I know I'm plain looking, I don't mind if you say it to my face. And besides, as crazy as it may sound to you, my priority isn't finding a husband...in fact, I'm a bit of a tomboy. My mother's always telling me to get my act together and make more female friends who have those priorities to sort me our. But. I never did. I like the way I am!"

Re: Breakfast, February 17
Calanthe simply stared, her mouth falling open and closed. She simply couldn't think of anything to say. Kat had seemed nice. She had said she was a noble. But... "Not... want... a husband?" she gasped out finally. "But... but why? Everyone wants a husband!"
Re: Breakfast, February 17
Ka blushed a little, "I'm not very good at being a lady. I'm blunt and rude and annoying and..." she continued on for a wahile and then sighed. "Sometimes I think it would be nice to have a husband but...I'm horrible at woman things!"

Re: Breakfast, February 17
"B- but-" Calanthe spluttered. "That's what the convent is for! You are supposed to be trained as a lady, so that you can learn how to... how to find a husband! And... what will you do when you leave? If not go to court, and marry? Will you just... stay here all your life? What else is there?" Despite her horror, she was genuinely curious, and it showed in her voice.
Re: Breakfast, February 17
"I-I-I never really thought about it. I figured I'd go home and take over the fief...alone. The Convent never seemed a very nice place so i didn't really pay attention." she said, she regretted it a little more now.

Re: Breakfast, February 17
"A woman can't run a fief," Calanthe said automatically. She had heard that phrase many times from her mother, whenever her father had asked Lady Criseyde to do anything. "It simply isn't proper. We don't have enough ability. Perhaps you should pay more attention from now on," she added kindly, her pity returned. "I'm sure it's not too late to learn..."
Re: Breakfast, February 17
Kat blinked a few times. "I don't know... I mean, why can't a woman run a fief? What's so wrong with that?" she inquired. It really didn't make sense to her.

Re: Breakfast, February 17
"Well..." Calanthe paused for a moment, puzzled. "That's what my mother always said. And she knows everything about being a lady. She said we hadn't the brains for it, or the skill, or something of that sort. It's a man's job, after all."
