Today for me it's Pilgrim by Eric Clapton (been listening to this one for several days now)

Re: music of the day
I adore thunderstorm 'music'! I used to listen to it in highschool to put me to sleep.

I've been so excited about the new A Perfect Circle CD coming out in the fall (the last one came out in 2000!) so I've been listening to a bunch of APC and Tool.

Prior to that I was feeling the folky mellow music. Very much distanced from alternative rock. (I had a LONG rock phase).

Who knows what I'll be groovin' to tomorrow. :)

Re: music of the day
Today it has been this song called "Come Pick Me Up" by Ryan Adams (Ryan NOT bryan). It's beautiful.

When they call your name
Will you walk right up
With a smile on your face
Or will you cower in fear
In your favorite sweater

With an old love letter
I wish you would

I wish you would
Come pick me up
Take me out
Fuck me up
Steal my records
Screw all my friends
They're all full of shit
With a smile on your face
And then do it again

I wish you would
When you're walking downtown
Do you wish I was there
Do you wish it was me
With the windows clear and the mannequins eyes

Do they all look like mine
You know you could
I wish you would
Come pick me up
Take me out
Fuck me up
Steal my records
Screw all my friends behind my back
With a smile on your face
And then do it again

I wish you would
I wish you'd make up my bed
So I could make up my mind
Try it for sleeping instead
Maybe you'll rest sometime
I wish I could

Is he the one that sings the "I love you New York" song? I haven't heard "Come Pick Me Up" yet.

Got this odd little CD (relaxation) for $2 from the "no one wants this music" rack at a discount store. It is this oddly bland muzak that is somewhere between soothing and pointless. I am intrigued. (4 songs)

lol Tiny..

For the last couple of days I'm listening to a Billie Holiday cd I have on loan from the library, and am gonna have to buy because it's just so good. Before that I was on an 80's rock kick and had either Candlebox, Eric Clapton's "Journeyman", or one of the Guns n Roses cds going nearly all the time.

Lately, these, at some point, nearly everyday:
Chaka Khan and Rufus's classic version of "Tell Me Somethin' Good" which makes me smile. (A Stevie Wonder tune, btw.)

Coltrane's "Psalm" from "A Love Divine" which makes me .... well, i dunno .... quiet down, maybe.

Re: music of the day
Excellent music, Iunknwon. I've always liked "Tell Me Something Good" too. :)

When I want to really get on my mate's nerves I sing "I Feel For You" -- Chaka Khan let me rock you let me rock you Chaka Khan, let me rock you that's all I wanna do...by the time I get to "I'm the one to keep you warm Chaka" he is begging me to stop.
:lol

{edit: fixed a typo .. I hate when that happens}

"I Feel for You" hmmmm ... Haven't thought of that one in a long time. Do you know who wrote it? A Prince tune? Sounds like his stuff, come to think of it ...

edit:
oops! After comin' back from the store, i thought of it. Duh! how can i forget that i've got the internet and a broadband connection right in front of me? i.e. "everything you ever wanted to know about anything, and lots more too." And, yeah, I had it right.

. In 1984 she recorded a song written for her by Prince, who himself was having a bit of success on both pop and R&B charts. As if that weren't enough star power, Melle Mel and Stevie Wonder were both brought in to back her up. The track, "I Feel For You," gave her a number 1 hit in the UK, and she narrowly missed the top spot in the States.

second edit: oops! almost forget to brag too! :sun2 :rollin

Thanks for the info Iunk .. I knew someone else wrote it but couldn't remember who. It's quite different from her Rufus days.

We're still listening to holiday music here .. the kids don't want to pack it up yet. We have the Vince Guaraldi Trio cd of the Charlie Brown's Christmas soundtrack and I could listen to it all day.

Somebody gave me a 'Starbucks' jazz sampler cd. Though it's actually pretty good, still kind'a embarassing, - y'know, Starbucks!! :rolleyes (Maybe if anybody asks, I'll tell 'em i stole it. )

But this cut: jazz singer Cassandra Wilson's (almost gutteral!) "down-bluesy" version of I Can' Stand the Rain just with footstomp and a dobro. Break my heart.

The antithesis of the Wynton Marselis school's "respectable" spin on jazz, maybe?

(Well, one complaint - little 'drier' mix on the vocal would've been perfect. Too much compression, or somethin.' )

Starbucks as in the coffee chain? :lol

I really prefer the bluesy jazz. Although years ago I would have never thought I'd like free-form jazz and now one of my favorites is Jaco Pastorius.

A romantic "Boz Skaggs" tune from somewhere, sometime, don't know. Not even sure of the name or why I like it. I think it's Sarah. And it sounds cool and unusual, sweltering, just put together right. Or something, maybe it's the arrangement.

"And that's the soul of a Southern girl
Gonna set you free ....yeah."

(I remember someone telling me Skaggs wrote a lot of great R&B/soul-type songs outside of that 'disco era' stuff that he actually made some money off. Never heard those.)

Sounds cool, Iunk.

For the last few days I've been listening to Ben Harper ... I've heard a couple of his songs on the radio (one of them I don't like and one I do) but was really turned on to him when I saw him perform on Austin City Limits with the Innocent Criminals -- and I thought wow, what a great musician he is, and went right out and got his latest disc.

I heard some music (live on TV) by a female musician the other day, Rachael Yamagata. I was very moved by it. However I have yet to be able to purchase a CD, and will do so soon.
