"Shut Up & Kiss Me" (Zach & Kendall)
A/N: This is based on the AMC episodes that aired 10/19-10/21 (aka the "foot rub" and "shut up" scenes). The first part is dialogue directly from the transcripts, so bear with me. I cut some, but a lot of it needed to stay to set up the mood.

I hope you enjoy it. - Liz

Part 1

"That was pretty insane, huh?” Kendall asked Zach as they entered her condo. “I mean, listening to Ryan's eulogies, and then there he was standing there?" Kendall purposely kept her face expressionless as she dropped her purse and keys on the kitchen island. "Must have been a shocker for you, too." she said quietly, her eyes on her husband's face.

Zach extended his arms out to his side before letting them fall. "It's unexpected for all of us," he replied as he avoided her eyes. He took a slow, deep breath, acknowledging to himself that it had become harder and harder to lie to her face these days. Suddenly uncomfortable, he changed the subject. "Let me fix you something to eat," he offered, walking around her and heading towards the refrigerator.

Kendall moved to the other side of the island, watching him take out the bottle of milk and reach for a glass from the strainer next to the sink. Oh he was cool, she thought to herself. She could feel her blood begin to boil.

Placing the bottle and glass on the island, Zach raised his eyes to hers, noticing the anger simmering in her eyes and her fingers tapping on the wood beneath her hand. Damn it. She knew. “Something wrong?” he asked innocently.

You son of a bitch. “You know damn well what's wrong,” she spat, infuriated when he ignored her and carried the glass of milk and a plate of fruit and cookies to the living room and placed them on the coffee table. Kendall followed, refusing to let him off the hook. “Go ahead, Zach, play dumb. Pretend you have no idea what I'm talking about. Wouldn't be the first time.”

Zach looked down at his hands, making a show of brushing off non-existent crumbs and drops of milk. Think, Slater, think. Okay, here we go, he thought to himself. “I'm assuming that you must be scared right now,” he began, raising his hazel eyes to hers, “because you're carrying the child of a man who was presumed dead.” He moved towards her and stopped, sliding his hands into his pockets. He rocked back and forth on his heels, shifting as he kept his eyes on her face as he drove the truth home. “A man who made it very clear he doesn't want children. A man who came very close to beating up his own wife when he found out that she was expecting.” Zach saw her swallow, her initial anger dissipating as he forced her to remember who Ryan was before he left.

Reading her eyes, he said exactly what she was thinking. “And I guess now you want to know what's going to happen to you if he finds out about you and your baby.” Zach stamped out the guilt he felt for the tears in her eyes and made her a promise he could keep. “I swear to you he's not going to touch you, because I'm going to protect you and that baby with my life.”

Kendall’s eyes searched his, stunned when she saw the expression on his face, the resolution in his eyes. Oh my God, he was serious. Kendall made her way to the couch and sank down into the maroon cushion, her hands folded in her lap, and her eyes on Zach. “You'd really protect me from Ryan?” she asked quietly.

Zach looked at the woman in front of him, the tone of her voice revealing surprise and wonder. Damn it, how could no one ever put her needs first? He mentally added another reason to hate Lavery and Erica to his rapidly growing list. “You really have to ask that?” he questioned softly. When she remained silent, he walked to the couch and sat down beside her. Reaching down he lifted her foot into his lap, slipping off her shoe and letting it drop to the floor.

“Whoa. Hello? You're touching -- you're touching my foot,” she stammered in shock as she watched her husband begin to caress and knead her foot.
Zach gazed intently at her foot, pressing his thumb into the soft skin of its bridge, realizing that this was the first time he had really touched her. He hadn’t given it a thought, made a conscious decision; he had just reached down and grabbed her foot, wanting to do something for her. “Shh,” he whispered. “There are pressure points in the foot that connect to every part of the body.”

“Yeah, I'm not an idiot. I know about reflex” He heard her exhale before she finished the word “ology.” Kendall’s voice faded away and she closed her eyes. “Oh…” she moaned, as his fingers kneaded her arch.

Zach’s hands faltered at the erotic sound, swallowing hard and forcing himself to continue. He could smell her perfume and he realized that she was a little too close. “Why don't you just lie back and relax, ok?” he asked as he turned towards her, placing his large hand on her shoulder and pushing her back against the couch.

Kendall bounced back upright, her mouth opening to retort when Zach did something amazing with his fingers. “How's that?” he asked, a smile playing about his lips. Her eyes fluttered closed and she moaned. “Hmm. Mmm.” He couldn’t help but wonder if she made those sounds when she made love…He shook his head to clear it of the sudden visions of a naked Kendall and shifted uncomfortably on the couch.

Zach turned his head slightly, tossing “Does that hurt?” over his left shoulder. Kendall could barely think let alone respond. Oh my God, what the man could do with those hands! “Uh-huh…oh…” She smiled softly and shook her head, her eyes still closed. Zach smiled as well, hearing her shift and make herself more comfortable before exhaling softly and falling back against the couch.

“That's it,” he whispered as he reached down for her other foot and slipping off her shoe. “Just let it go,” he encouraged softly. He heard Kendall sigh, the sound teasing the nerve endings of his body, causing reactions he didn’t have any control over. Turning around to look at Kendall, he let his gaze travel over her beautiful face, relaxed for the first time in what seemed like weeks. She deserved so much. “I'll take care of you,” he promised fervently before returning his gaze to her feet, his hands working methodically to bring her some semblance of pleasure.

Kendall opened her eyes slowly, her gaze on the man in front of her working magic with his hands. They were so firm, yet tender in their touch. She couldn’t help but wonder how those strong, capable hands would feel on her body… She caught herself before she let her mind wander down a road it had no place traveling and stiffened. Zach felt her tense, felt her attempt to remove her foot from his grasp. He turned slowly and met her eyes, the bright green eyes he was used to seeing now as dark and unfathomable as his own. He didn’t release her from his grasp, instead watching silently as her eyes widened, her chest rising and falling rapidly.

Kendall swallowed when she felt his gentle touch on her foot shift to her ankle, his long fingers sliding upwards to caress the soft skin underneath the hem of her pants. Her gaze lowered to his hand, suddenly mesmerized by its movements. Following her gaze, Zach cursed softly when he realized he was unconsciously stroking her skin. What the hell was he doing? He released his hold on her ankle and quickly removed her legs from his lap. Clearing his throat, he avoided her eyes and headed to the kitchen, leaving Kendall on the couch, confused.

Kendall shook her head, trying to clear the fog that Zach’s touch had generated. She took a deep breath and tried to calm her racing heart. Get a grip, Kendall, she said to herself. The foot rub was just a distraction, something to delay her questions, nothing more. Kendall felt the anger returning as she watched him move about her kitchen. And right now, she wanted – no, deserved – the truth.

Placing the tea kettle on the stove, Zach opened up a cupboard and took down two mugs. He was grateful for the mundane task of making tea. It saved him from having to think about what happened between them on the couch. “Kettle's on,” he informed her. “How do you take your tea?”

Kendall ignored his question, trying to bury the hurt she was feeling and focus on the anger instead. “You lied to me, Zach, over and over again. You knew that Ryan was alive all along.”

Kendall watched as Zach reached for a cookie from the plate on the coffee table and began to eat it, first taking a bite and then chewing it slowly. He remained silent. “There is no way that I deserve this. My husband lies to my face and keeps the truth that Ryan has been alive this whole time? She pointedly ignored the cookie he offered her and moved closer. “You want to duck the truth? Fine, I won't push you. We're not going to talk in circles and go "aha" when you slip up.” Briefly distracted, she followed Zach’s hand with her eyes as he broke off a piece of the cookie and popped it into his mouth before she continued. “But Ryan could be spilling the whole ugly truth to Greenlee as we speak, and you have to wonder if your name will come up. I have to wonder, will you answer me straight out, did you lie to me or not?”

Knowing he was unable to look into her beautiful green eyes and lie directly to her face anymore, Zach sighed and answered honestly. “I lied.”

He lied. He admitted it. Kendall couldn’t explain why that hurt almost more than the fact that it had been Ryan’s choice to disappear. And now here was her husband, trying to justify his reasons for keeping Ryan’s secret. Kendall stood slowly from her seat in front of the fire and walked over to Zach, standing in front of him, her troubled eyes on his. “Why did you lie?” she asked.

Zach didn’t even stop to think, the flippant response rolling easily off of his tongue. “It's what I do. You know that,” he replied, ignoring the voice in his head screaming for him to tell her the truth. He knew the minute he said the words that Kendall wasn’t going to accept them for an answer. Their relationship, such as it was, had progressed further than that.

Kendall tried again. “To me?” she asked as she moved closer, watching as Zach quickly dropped his eyes. Oh no, Zach, she thought to herself. You are so going to answer this. “Why did you lie to me?”

He wasn’t sure if it was the pain in her eyes or her voice, thick with emotion, that did it, but Zach found himself answering her honestly. “To save you.” He turned away, suddenly needing to put some distance between them. Zach reached up to unbutton his collar and loosen his tie, trying to draw some air into his constricted lungs. Kendall followed right behind him, refusing to let him walk away. “This is what our marriage means to you?” she challenged. “You can save me from a man that I loved more than I ever even liked you?”

Zach felt the hit. “It's a good thing we never claim to be conventional -- you, me, or…” he let his eyes drift down her body to stop at her still-flat stomach “your ex-lover's baby. Kendall ignored the heat she felt as his eyes traveled down her body and turned her mind back to the subject at hand - his lies. “This isn't about the baby,” she pointed out. “This is about you and how you lied to me.”

Zach rubbed his face with his hand. “Kendall, once Ryan was gone all you could see was the good parts.” He tried to remain calm but her blatant adoration of Ryan Lavery made him crazy. “He was a monster that had to be stopped! And those are his words, not mine.” He finally saw a flicker of understanding in her eyes and he couldn’t stop himself from continuing. “And I was glad he was gone, because I wasn’t going to let him hurt you!”

Kendall caught her breath at the fire in his eyes. He wasn’t going to let Ryan hurt her? What about him? “I'm carrying Ryan's child,” she reminded him, her voice rising. “What about what you've done to me?”

He waited a minute before walking towards her. Leaning in to her personal space, he placed his mouth close to her ear. “I wasn't wrong,” he said softly before turning away and heading back to the kitchen.

Kendall couldn’t believe her ears. “Oh, my God, the brass on you,” she breathed as she followed him to the kitchen. “Everyone is always wrong but you.” She watched him pour himself a drink. “I'm pregnant with Ryan's child, Zach. Now what?” she demanded, “For Ryan, for Greenlee, for me, for this baby?” Kendall watched him turn to face her, his left hand in his pocket, and lean back against the countertop waiting for her to continue. ”You're the master of the universe, ruler of all that's in charge. You tell me, what now?” She waited expectantly, her eyes on his, for his words of wisdom that never came.

Zach’s eyes shifted from hers as he answered her. “I don’t know,” he said quietly as he carried his drink back to Kendall’s living room. Kendall trailed behind him. “Wait. Say it again,” she demanded. Zach sighed loudly and looked away, making her eyes widen in disbelief. “You don't know?” she repeated incredulously.

His mind raced. What did she expect him to say? He didn’t have a clue where to go from here. Kendall had managed to tie herself permanently to Greenlee and Ryan after everything they’ve done to her, something he knew she would, in the end, come to regret. He finally turned around and met her gaze, saying the only thing that came to mind and trying to ignore the fact that he sounded like a child. “I told you not to do it.” He watched her eyes flash in anger.

Kendall nodded. So this was how it was going to be, she thought to herself. “Ryan's alive, and I'm pregnant,” she said, her voice gaining strength. “You didn't try hard enough!”

“I did try!” Zach bellowed, his voice loud over hers. How could she not see that? Evidently she couldn’t, because she needed to ask for proof. “What did you do, Zach? How did you try to stop me?” Kendall asked, her eyes on his. Zach looked away for a brief second, wondering how much he should tell her, and deciding that less was more. “It was too late. So I opted to stand behind you the way you did when Greenlee was pregnant.” Zach shifted uncomfortably under her scrutiny.

“That's because Greenlee is my friend, I love her,” she answered back quickly. “You want to pretend that you give a damn about me?” Kendall ignored the small voice inside her that was telling her she really wished he did. Means to an end, Kendall, she told herself. That’s all you are to him. “There was a way to stop me, Zach -- the truth.” She watched him lower his eyes, which made her even angrier. “Or do you lie so much the truth just gets choked in your throat?” she asked, the disgust audible in her voice.

Zach raised his eyes back up to hers. “I promised to protect you, and I meant that,” he said quietly as he walked around her and headed for the couch. “So here we are --another lie…” he began as he lowered his frame onto the cushion, “another secret.” Zach placed his drink on the coffee table and sighed, rubbing his eyes with his fingertips. “What if I had told you that Ryan was alive?” he asked, folding his hands in front of him. “That he chose life alone instead of a life with Greenlee?” Zach’s eyes shifted from her face to off in the distance. “What then? Maybe you would have believed me, told Greenlee.” He shook his head sadly. “And after all the pain and the grief and the misery, she would have tried to find him, tried to chase him down. Whether alive or dead, the man she's looking for doesn't exist anymore.” Zach’s eyes sought hers as he tried to make her understand and Kendall suddenly felt like he had stopped talking about Ryan and started talking about himself instead. “So, tell me about your plans for your dear, dear friend,” he begged indulgently. “A better life you're talking about, is it? Stuffing hopes and dreams and ideas into a child's head, Ryan's child, or is it trying to find a man who doesn't want to be found?” Zach watched as Kendall wrung her hands, the only outward sign of her emotional duress.

Kendall couldn’t take it all in, the rollercoaster of emotions she had endured the past few months …it all could’ve been avoided. If he had just been honest. “This is how you protect me, how you stand by me?” she asked, “All the grief and the misery and the pain -- those were your gifts to me and Greenlee?”
Zach shook his head and stared off into space in front of him, refusing to feel guilty for something he knew was the right thing to do, and repeated her words. “Grief and misery and pain -- that's nothing compared to what comes next.” He looked up and his eyes met hers briefly before Kendall turned away from the intensity of his gaze, her hand placed protectively over her stomach. He watched her for a few minutes, letting her process things, before getting up and moving to her side. “I said I would protect you and stand by you. I meant that. Will you let me?” he asked softly. Kendall turned towards him, her eyes bright with unshed tears, and Zach felt like he had been punched in the gut. “Can I make it up to you?” he asked.

He watched her walk away, her shoulders stiff. “Whatever it takes, the offer stands,” he assured her. He watched as she sat down by the fireplace. “Because I need protection?” she asked him quietly. Zach walked towards her and slid his hands in his pockets. “I don't know why Ryan came back. I don't know what he wants,” he admitted. “But you're right, soon he'll know that the baby's coming, and I will be here to protect you.”

Kendall looked up at her husband. “My hero? My knight?” she asked. Zach allowed himself a small smile at the absurdity of her words. “Ah, I don't know,” he replied. He was certainly no hero. “The guy between you and Ryan,” he offered. “Between you and the world, if you can get past this.”

Kendall stood up and walked towards him, her eyes focused on his. “You lie and lie and expected me to forgive you,” she breathed in amazement. He had to be kidding! “You propped up the lie of the century, giving away nothing, while Greenlee died a little more each day.” She could feel the anger surfacing again. “You stood ringside, and you watched me watch my best friend with her heart aching at the loss of her husband.” Every time he tried to avoid her gaze, she moved in closer, her eyes searching and finding his. “You let me help create a child to ease her loss, Zach,” she reminded him, her voice breaking, “to give her a part of something to hang on to, a part of Ryan without just screaming in my face, ‘Ryan's alive!’ Do you honestly, really expect me to forgive you for any of that?”

“Frankly, Kendall, I don't – I don’t give a damn if you forgive me or not,” he admitted quietly. His callous words brought forth the tears in Kendall’s eyes. Oh God, she needed to put some distance between them. She walked around him and took a few steps before turning around to face him.

“Knock yourself out,” Zach encouraged as he moved towards her. “Cry if you have to, make yourself feel better. We both have priorities. Yours is creating an enemy where there isn't one. Mine is protecting you.”

“How in God's name is what you've done to me called protection?” Kendall demanded.

“You're so caught up in what is done you can't see what's ahead of you. This baby,” he said as his eyes traveled down her body and back up again, “was supposed to be a gift to Greenlee. Now with Ryan back it's a time bomb waiting to explode.” He thought of the people who were going to be lined up to attack her. She shouldn’t have to handle that by herself. “Now, you got Ryan, Greenlee, Jackson, and Erica. I'm not going to leave you to fend for yourself.” He took a step closer to her.

Kendall moved a step closer to him as well. “Who are you? What, are you Zach the guilty for running the cruelest con ever? Or Zach the control freak, because you just have to be in charge all the time?’ The smile on her face was brittle and didn’t reach her eyes. “Or maybe you're Zach taking pity for the poor hormone-crazed pregnant woman. Which is it, Zach? Are you guilty, control, or pity?” She watched as his jaw clenched, furious when he wouldn’t rise to her bait. “Come on, hubby,” she needled as he avoided her gaze, “it's just you and me. Come on, you can tell me. I really want to know what's going on in that twisted head of yours. Please, from the master, I want to know, I want to learn for my own protection,” she begged, her voice full of sarcasm.

Finally Zach had had enough and his eyes flew to hers. He felt his control snap and the next thing he knew he had opened his mouth, and without thinking, admitted what he had been so careful to hide. “Shut up! Shut your mouth, open your eyes, and see that I care about you.”

All Kendall could do was stare at him as his words repeated themselves in her head. How could he be so cruel? When she didn’t respond, Zach moved closer, his eyes filled with concern. “You all right?” he asked quietly.

Am I all right? she repeated to herself. Kendall couldn’t quite wrap her mind around her husband’s latest ploy to convince her he was acting in her best interests. “I'm just letting it all sink in. You care about me,” she repeated, dazed. She left him standing there, turning around and walking back into her living room, not stopping until she had put the large maroon couch between them. “In a sadistic kind of way? Like torture treatment? I mean, you do hurt the ones that you love the most.” She bent forward, bracing her arms on the back of the couch, her hurt eyes on his. “So tell me,” she asked, “where did you stuff your caring when you whisked Ryan back into the dead zone? How does letting Greenlee and me believe that Ryan is dead rank on the compassion scale?”

Zach closed his eyes and pinched the bridge of his nose. How the hell did she still not get it? “I helped Ryan vanish because he bruised every life he touched, including yours and Greenlee's.”

“Oh, ok, so that gives you the right to decide Greenlee's fate and mine?” she asked. Who the hell did he think he was? Zach looked away, taking a deep breath, and tried to reign in his temper. Kendall was oblivious to it all and plunged ahead. “You took it upon yourself to rewrite the future for all of us. You encouraged Ryan to stay dead and disappear,” she accused him, unable to keep the hurt out of her voice.

Zach refused to back down and crossed the room to strand before her. “I did what I did to keep you and your friend out of harm's way.”

“How did -- how did you show that you cared? How did you care? By agreeing to protect Greenlee for Ryan by ripping her heart out?” Zach’s eyes narrowed at her choice of words but let her continue. “By doing your best to talk me out of carrying Greenlee's baby without giving me the one reason that could have made a difference? I mean, did you really, truly show that you cared when you saw how miserable Greenlee and I were?” Kendall cried, her voice finally breaking.

Zach briefly contemplated the possibility that he was wrong only to discard it. He wasn’t wrong. And he’d do it all over again if he had to.

“Is that your idea of caring?” Kendall asked incredulously. “Well, you know what? I could really do without your caring, so please, stop!” she screamed. “I'm sick of it! No more! Just stop and get the hell out of my life.” Her voice sounded strained even to her own ears. She could feel the tears coming and blinked furiously to stop them. She would not cry in front of him.

Zach didn’t move or even argue. He just stared at her for few seconds before nodding, turning and heading for the door. Kendall heard the door close and allowed the sob to escape before stamping her foot in frustration. She took a few steps before involuntarily turning around to look out the window. She saw him through the glass, standing in the courtyard. Turning away, she sank down into a chair and buried her face in her hands…and cried.

Part 2

Zach stood in the courtyard, his back against the stone pillar, and his eyes on Kendall’s window. Standing there, he watched her as she cried. He looked away, reminding himself why he helped Ryan stay dead. How the hell could she continue to defend Lavery after what he had done – and what he had almost done to her and Greenlee? And she had the nerve to blame him for this? Bullshit. All he had done was try to protect her and keep her safe. If anything this was her fault, for she was her own worst enemy. She was the one who made the decision to carry Greenlee and Ryan’s baby. How the hell did she think it was going to work out?

He did the right thing, he told himself. He did it to protect her. Why couldn’t Kendall see that? He had done everything in his power to avoid this situation, to keep her from making a mistake, just so she wouldn’t get hurt. Sighing loudly, Zach tilted his head back and looked up at the stars. To make matters worse he had told her that he cared. He may as well have told her he’d fallen in love with Erica for all the good it did him - - She didn’t believe him. He didn’t plan it but out it came. And what did she do? Throw it back in his face.

What the hell was he thinking? Zach pushed himself away from the column and began to pace. She had to be the most infuriating… He stopped the thought there and ran his fingers through his hair. He saw the pain in her eyes tonight, pain she believed he caused. Fine, she wanted him out of her life, he’d go…but not before he said his piece and delivered a few select truths. She needed someone in her corner and he didn’t exactly see a line of family and friends forming to offer their support.

Looking back at the window, he noticed that she was no longer in the living room. He was too late. Maybe she had gone to bed, he thought to himself. Going back tonight probably wasn’t a good idea anyway. Zach took a few steps towards his own door before swearing, turning around and crossing back over to hers. If he was going to do this, he was going to do this now. He raised his hand to her door and began banging on it with his fist.

“Kendall, open the door!” he ordered. He counted to ten and when she didn’t answer, he started banging on the door again. The longer he waited, the more annoyed he got. “You can’t ignore me, Kendall. I’m not going to go away until we finish talking.” When all he heard was silence, he patted down his pockets looking for his keys. Pulling out the silver ring, he held it up to the outside light and looked for his copy of her key. They’d exchanged keys in case of an emergency, and until now he’d never had an occasion to use it. Locating her key, he slipped it into the lock and turned it, letting himself inside.

Kendall quickly stripped off her clothes and dropped them on the bathroom floor. After adjusting the temperature of the shower, she stepped into the tub and pulled the shower curtain closed behind her. Closing her eyes against the tears, she tried to make sense of the past twelve hours. Who did he think he was, she asked herself, playing God with everyone’s life? Lies. Lies and secrets. They always come back to haunt you. She placed a hand over her still-flat stomach. It was his fault that she was pregnant with Ryan’s child.

Kendall felt the tears spill over onto her cheeks. Once again her life was a mess. Twenty-four hours ago she knew exactly what she was doing and why she was doing it. Right now, she wasn’t sure of anything.

“Shut up! Shut your mouth, open your eyes, and see that I care about you.”

Zach’s voice reverberated in her head. What the hell was she supposed to make of that? Kendall closed her eyes and leaned back into the hot spray, allowing the force of the water to knead her back and shoulders. He didn’t care…he couldn’t, she thought to herself. Could he?

Her mind drifted back to the foot rub Zach had given her earlier. The feel of his large, strong hands on her feet had produced several surprising reactions in her body, the least of which was arousal. It had been so long since someone had done something for her without being asked or expecting anything in return. Kendall closed her eyes and sighed softly as she remembered the sensations he had been able to wring from her body. The man had amazing hands, she thought to herself. She couldn’t help but wonder what they’d feel like all over her body.

And the look in his eyes…Her nipples tightened at the visual her mind created, resulting in an ache centering low in her belly. Ignoring the not so subtle reminders her body was issuing, that she hadn’t had sex in what seemed like forever, Kendall swore softly. Damn Greenlee and her rules. The lack of sex was definitely affecting her brain if she was beginning to entertain thoughts about her husband. Grabbing the washcloth and her bottle of body wash, she began to lather up.

Zach made his way through the empty living room, his eyes scanning the area for any sign of his wife. He headed towards her bedroom but stopped when he heard the faint sound of water running. Turning quickly, he changed direction and headed to the bathroom. Zach took a deep breath and banged on the door.

Kendall rinsed the shampoo out of her hair and turned around, raising her face to the spray, the sound of the water calming as it rained down over her skin. She could stay here forever, the warmth of the shower like a pair of familiar arms wrapped securely around her, keeping her safe. In the back of her mind she heard a noise…a faint pounding. Chalking it up to the beating of her heart in her ears, she allowed herself to continue her fantasy…the strong muscular arms wrapped around her, the sexy, gravelly voice calling her name…

“Kendall, open up! We’re not done!” Zach yelled through the door, trying to be heard over the sound of the running water. When she didn’t respond, he pounded again on the door. Impatient, he reached for the door knob only to find it locked. “Damn it, Kendall, open the damn door!” He shifted back and forth, his hand rubbing his face. What was taking her so long? He banged his fist on the door again. “Kendall!”

Zach? Kendall opened her eyes and listened again. God she was hearing things now. She closed her eyes only to open them again when she heard her name again followed by the banging of the bathroom door. Kendall slid the shower curtain open and stuck her head out. “Zach? Is that you?” she yelled.

Finally! “Kendall, open the door. I need to talk to you,” he yelled back, his hand on the door knob. Kendall looked back at the shower that was still running and turned the water off. I’ll be right back, she promised. She stepped out of the tub and reached for a towel, wrapping it quickly about her wet frame. She padded to the bathroom door and turned the lock, unprepared when it was suddenly pushed open and Zach barged in without an invitation, his eyes angry.

“Zach! What do you think you’re doing?” Kendall asked, gripping the towel tighter as he advanced towards her. The look in his eyes and the anger radiating off of him in waves made her slowly back away.

“We weren’t done,” he informed her, “and I have a few things that I want to say…and that you need to hear.” Zach saw her open her mouth to argue and he placed a finger against her lips. “Shut up. You had your turn, now it’s mine.”

Kendall couldn’t get past his arrogance and parted her lips, her teeth biting down sharply on his offending finger. She watched in satisfaction as he sucked in his breath at the sharp, unexpected pain. “Don’t touch me,” she seethed, her chest rising and falling rapidly. “What’s left to say, Zach? You lied. I’m pregnant. It’s your fault.’ She lifted her chin. “I think I hit all the highlights. Did I leave anything out?” she asked, her brow lifted.

Zach’s eyes flashed, his jaw clenching at her words. God she could be such a bitch! He spared a glance at his finger, expecting to see broken skin but found only small indentations from her teeth. The unbidden thought of her mouth and teeth on other areas of his skin caused his body to harden. Shaking his head, he brought his mind back to the reason he was there. “As a matter of fact you did. You left out the fact that this,” he pointed to her towel-covered stomach with his hand, “is your fault, not mine.”

Ignoring her gasp of outrage, he pressed on. “You heard me. Your fault.” Zach pressed his injured finger into her chest to reinforce his point, sliding it slowly down her sternum before he removed it. “You’re your own worst enemy, Kendall. You were the one that ultimately made the decision to carry Ryan and Greenlee’s baby, not me!”

Kendall couldn’t believe what she was hearing. This was her fault?

“You also forgot ‘I’m sorry, Zach, you were right’.” He smiled but it didn’t reach his eyes. “Sound familiar? Why don’t you try it on for size?”

“You smug bastard!” Kendall didn’t think, she just reacted, not realizing what she was doing until Zach caught her wrist before it made contact with his cheek.

“All I tried to do was protect you. How can you not see that?” he asked irately, his grip tightening on her wrist. “I tried to keep you from getting hurt, and that didn’t work. You got pregnant anyway.” Sometimes he just wished he could shake her. “Now that Lavery’s back, it’s only going to get worse.”

“Bull, Zach. You didn’t try to protect me. You were protecting yourself,” Kendall argued as she attempted to yank her wrist out of Zach’s grasp. She finally succeeded after a few attempts but not before stumbling backwards from her efforts. Zach’s arms immediately reached out to steady her, his hands settling on her still-wet shoulders to pull her towards him only to have Kendall jerk out of his arms. “Don’t!” she hissed as she dropped her gaze from his, uncomfortable with the feelings his touch created.

Zach raised his eyes to the ceiling and swore softly. “Damn it, Kendall, I’m the only one who seems to care about your feelings in all of this and you’re so Goddamn unappreciative!” He turned away, unable to look at her as he tried to reign in his temper, only to find himself looking at her reflection in the mirror. He squeezed his eyes shut; the vision of her smooth, wet skin revealed by the dipping towel that barely covered her thighs wreaking havoc on his body. Damn it, Kendall, where’s the rest of your towel?

Liar! She thought to herself. “You’re full of it, Zach. You don’t give a damn about me, you never have!” Kendall refused to talk to his back. “Look at me, damn you!” she cried. Zach turned around slowly, the frustration clearly visible on his face. “All you care about is your hate for Ryan. You don’t want “your” wife carrying his child. Admit it, Zach. You just wanted to control me!”

He laughed mockingly. “As if I could control Kendall Hart! And you’re right, maybe I shouldn’t care” he agreed. “I should just let you screw everything up on your own – you always do.”

Kendall slapped him – hard – the sound loud in the small room. Covering her mouth with her hand to muffle a sob, she shrank back as the truth of his words hit her.

“Maybe that’s exactly what I’ll do,” he said, rubbing his stinging cheek with his hand. “I’ll back off and leave you on your own. But don’t call me when everything blows up in your face because I tried to help you avoid it. Now, we can go back to being married strangers. I’ll stay out of your life, you’ll stay out of mine.” And with that, he turned around and headed towards the door.

Kendall couldn’t explain the irrational amount of pain she felt at the thought that he was going to remove himself from her life as it was and go back to being her husband on paper only. “I knew it! You promised to protect me!” she screamed at his back. “What a crock! It was always all about you, wasn’t it, Zach? I was just a convenient way for you to get back at everyone you hated,” she accused him.

Zach spun around and took a step towards her, his eyes dark and unfathomable as they traveled up and down her half-naked body. “Honey, there’s nothing convenient about you and you know it.”

“How the hell do you know? You’ve got no use for me or this marriage.” Kendall lost the battle with her tears and they spilled over onto her cheeks. “At the end of the day, you don’t care about anyone but yourself. You want an out? You’ve just got yourself one.”

“You don’t know anything,” he informed her quietly, his hot eyes on hers. “You think you have it all figured out when it comes to our marriage and you don’t know anything at all.” He started walking purposefully towards her, causing Kendall to retreat until the back of her legs hit the tub. When he didn’t stop, she stepped back into the tub, her eyes wide with apprehension.

Zach’s heart pounded in his chest. He meant it when he said he cared. He didn’t want an “out”. He wanted an “in”. He felt an urge to chuckle as he watched her retreat into the shower. It wasn’t going to save her. If anything, she just sealed her own fate. He took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. No other woman had ever angered him or frustrated him more. His eyes narrowed as he watched her grip the towel tighter across her breasts. And no woman had ever turned him on more.

Kendall leaned back against the tile, suddenly realizing she had nowhere else to go. She caught her breath at the determined expression on his face. When he stepped into the tub after her, she panicked, reaching out to hurriedly turn on the shower in hopes that he’d back off. When the water hit him, she had a flashback to her earlier fantasy. Oh God.

Zach ignored the water saturating his suit and instead reached out and grasped her towel. “You just saved me time. I wanted you wet.” He placed his hand over hers, removing her nerveless fingers from the towel and tugging it away from her body. He pulled her away from the wall and moved her under the stream of water, watching as it ran down her trembling body.

Kendall couldn’t breathe. She was still trying to process the reality of her husband…in her shower…and wondering why he was still dressed. She opened her mouth, trying to draw the necessary oxygen into her lungs. It wasn’t working.

He watched the emotions play across her face; fascinated mostly by the one that made her cheeks flush with color. Zach could see the wariness in her beautiful green eyes as she looked at him. Wariness mixed with need. He lowered his head, his lips hovering just above hers. “I do care, Kendall,” he reassured her. “God help me, but I do,” he groaned as he cupped the back of her neck and dragged her mouth to his.

Kendall felt her knees buckle as he forced her mouth open beneath his, his tongue thrusting deep to tangle with hers. She heard him groan at the contact, the sound causing little shivers of sensation to run up and down her spine. Her head spinning, she returned Zach's kiss blindly, the water from the showerhead drenching their faces and making its way into their kiss. She broke the kiss and gasped for breath, the mix of the steam and the feel of his lips on hers making her lightheaded. He allowed her a brief second of respite before cutting off her air supply again, already craving her taste and unable to stop himself from devouring her. It was as if he needed her to breathe.

The realization had him stop suddenly and thrust her away from, his heart pounding hard in his chest. Never had a mere kiss made him lose control, make him want to bury himself so deeply in a woman's warmth that he would never be free of her again. His eyes traveled over the woman before him, taking in the alabaster skin flushed with heat and the dazed look in her expressive green eyes...

He swallowed several times before he could speak, the huskiness in his voice making his words that much more arduous. Zach closed his eyes briefly. "What am I doing?" he breathed quietly. "You don't want this, you don't need this...I’m sorry…" Zach ran his hands through his hair, pushing the water back out of his face and turned to step out of the tub, only to stop when Kendall's voice reached his ears. "Wait!" she cried. She took a deep breath, not sure of anything in that moment other that the fact that she didn't want him to go.

Zach turned slowly, his eyes on her face. Blinking quickly to clear her vision, Kendall's eyes locked on his. She could see the uncertainty in their hazel depths as well as the flicker of desire he couldn't quite hide. They stood there silently; the only sound other than their harsh breathing was the water hitting the porcelain beneath their feet. All at once she could feel the heat of his eyes everywhere on her skin, and her nipples hardened in response.

Zach's gaze wavered away from hers and slid slowly over each and every inch of her naked, wet skin, involuntarily cataloging the unmistakable signs of her arousal before squeezing his eyes shut. Suddenly the waterlogged pants of his suit felt about two sizes too small and he couldn't breathe.

Kendall looked at the man in front of her, aware for the first time that he was barely hanging on to his control. She could make it snap. That knowledge made her almost giddy; however it was the promise of what would come afterwards that turned her on. “Why don’t you ‘save me time’? she asked softly. “I want you naked.” She grabbed his tie and pulled on it.

"Kendall," he rasped, "What are you...I don't think...”

Her heart pounding, Kendall tightened her grip on his tie, yanking on it again bringing him closer to her. “Don’t think. Just shut up and kiss me,” she whispered.

Zach couldn’t move, couldn’t act. She didn’t mean it, he thought to himself. He knew she didn’t. He’d hurt her and she was looking for a balm to make herself feel better.

Kendall watched the emotions flicker in his eyes. He was fighting for control, she realized…and he was winning. She could already see him trying to distance himself from her. Her confidence waning, she began to wonder if she had it all wrong. “You don’t really care about me, do you?” she asked quietly as she dropped his tie. Taking a step back, she wrapped her arms around her middle, suddenly chilled in spite of the steam surrounding her. Oh God, what had she almost done?

Avoiding his eyes, Kendall began to step out of the tub and reached for another towel. Her hand had barely made contact with the plush terrycloth when she was unceremoniously hauled back into the tub, her backside connecting forcefully with Zach’s front. Her heart pounding, she struggled against his arms.

Zach spun her around in his arms, steadying her as she floundered, her green eyes wide with shock. With his eyes on hers, he pushed her backwards until she was pressed against the tile wall. Reaching up, he loosened his tie and pulled it over his head, tossing it out of the tub and onto the bathroom floor. She watched in stunned silence as he shrugged out of the suit jacket next, sending it to join his tie. “Zach,” she began, “what are you doing?””

Zach reached out and placed his hands on the tile wall in front of him, one hand on either side of her head. He lowered his head, placing his mouth next to her ear. “Trying to save you time,” he growled before nipping her earlobe with his teeth. Kendall closed her eyes and placed both of her hands on his chest. "That’s not funny,” she groaned as his tongue circled the outside shell of her ear. Pulling away slightly, Zach's dark eyes sought and found hers. "I'm not laughing," he countered as he pressed his lean hips against her, his mouth searching desperately for hers.

She gasped at the feel of him against her and Zach took advantage, plunging his tongue into her warm, wet cavern. It was as if he was starving for a taste of her, his tongue swirling around hers and sucking it deeply into his mouth. His sure hands slid over her water-slicked body, reaching behind her to lift her leg up onto his thigh and open her to his touch. His lips moved to her neck, gently biting the delicate skin before sucking it into his mouth as his hand buried itself between her soft, quivering thighs. He stroked her slowly at first, his touch feather-light on her overheated body.

Kendall's sharp, indrawn breath gave him his first clue that he was doing something right, and he felt her flesh swell and dampen beneath his touch. Kendall slid her hands up and onto Zach's shoulders, pressing herself against his hand as she shifted her hips mindlessly in her quest for a firmer touch. Zach gave her what she wanted, increasing the pressure of his fingers and slipping a long, tapered finger deep inside her tight, wet, sheath. Kendall closed her eyes and exhaled slowly as she felt him move inside her, moaning softly at the feelings he was wringing out of her willing body. "Mmm...Zach," she moaned. More…Please. That last thought didn’t even need to be voiced. Zach withdrew his finger and quickly replaced it with two, thrusting them deep inside her as his thumb pressed against her hardened nub. Kendall tightened her grip on his shoulders, holding on to him for dear life as she screamed, the lights exploding behind her eyes.

Muffling her scream with his lips, Zach released his grip on her leg, allowing it to slide down his thigh. He ended the kiss and leaned his forehead against hers, ignoring his body that was screaming for release and waiting for Kendall's breathing to return back to normal. He felt her hand on his cheek and he raised his head to look into her eyes, finding the heady mix of passion and need in their darkened green depths. Kendall cupped the back of his neck and pulled him to her, her lips fusing onto his as her hands yanked the wet shirt from his pants.

She fumbled with the buttons, unable to grip them and free them from their constraints. Impatient, she began to tug at the shirt itself. "Zach," she murmured against his lips, "help-" She felt him remove her hands from his shirt and lower them to his belt as he gave her a deep kiss, his tongue more than hinting at what his body was craving. Determined not to waste time, Kendall unbuckled the strip of leather and set to work on the fly of his pants, her fingers brushing against him as she pushed his pants down over his hips. She heard them sink to his ankles, the metal of the belt buckle clanging noisily against the floor of the tub.

Zach stopped trying to unbutton his shirt after the third time his fingers slipped off of the small discs. Refusing to break the kiss, he grasped the material of his shirt in two hands and pulled it apart, the buttons pinging against the walls and floor of the shower. He quickly shrugged out of the shirt, peeling the wet cotton off his skin and tossing it out onto the bathroom floor before reaching for her.

Kendall felt the erotic shock of his warm, wet skin against hers, causing her breasts to throb. She rubbed herself against him, feeling his arousal press almost painfully against her hip. She lowered her hand to his boxers, sliding her fingers inside the waistband and pushing them down as well, her fingers curling themselves around his hard, thick shaft. "Kendall," he growled, "don't-" The rest of his words came out in a hiss when she squeezed him gently and began moving her hand up and down in a slow and steady rhythm.

He was faintly aware of the pressure building, his heart pounding in his chest. If she kept this up he was going to spill himself in her hand. Kendall smiled seductively as she leaned up and pressed a soft kiss to his lips, her fingers trailing over the underside of his shaft. "Does that feel good, Zach?" she whispered as her tongue stroked the seam of his lips. "Oh God, yes..."Zach groaned as he felt himself lengthen, opening his mouth for her questing tongue and sucking it slowly inside. After several slow, deep, wet kisses he could barely remember his own name.

Kendall released him slowly, moving her thumb slowly over the tip of his shaft and capturing the small drop of liquid there. Her eyes were hot on his as she raised her thumb to her lips. She licked her lips slowly, watching his eyes darken. "I wonder...” she breathed as she studied the man in front of her, realizing for the first time just how much his suits camouflaged the strong, virile man beneath. “Do you taste as good, Zach?" she asked softly.

Oh Christ! he thought to himself. She’s trying to kill me. Kendall held his gaze as she began to lick her thumb, first with long strokes then short, before swirling her tongue around the top and sucking it slowly into her mouth. “Mmm…” she moaned as she closed her eyes.

That did it. Zach yanked her thumb out of her mouth and tossed her hand aside, causing her eyes to fly open in surprise. He thrust his fingers into her wet curls and roughly pulled her forward, uncaring that she stumbled slightly and fell against him. Sliding his hands down her back and over her buttocks, Zach gripped the back of Kendall’s thighs, his fingers bruising in their force as he squeezed her soft flesh and lifted her up against him.

Any pain that Kendall might have felt was overshadowed by her racing heart and the rush of moisture that shot to her core at the wild look in his eyes. Wrapping her trembling legs around his waist, Zach moved jerkily towards the wall at the back of the shower, the pants around his ankles restricting his movements. “Kendall,” he rasped…

Kendall bent her head, placing her mouth next to his ear. “Yes, Zach” she groaned, feeling his rock hard shaft rubbing against her wet sex with each step. “Oh God yes…” Without any warning, she thrust her warm pink tongue into Zach’s ear and swirled it quickly. She blew softly in his ear before biting his earlobe with her small, sharp teeth.

F*ck! his mind screamed as he felt the sensation all the way down to his groin. Zach felt himself stumble and pitch forward, automatically reaching out to brace himself as they both crashed into the hard, unforgiving tile with a thud, and his body propelled itself into hers.

Kendall gasped from the initial shock of feeling him suddenly buried deep inside her only to moan deep in her throat at how good, how right he felt filling her. His eyes found hers and he began to move, his hips thrusting upward into her tight, wet, heat. Bending his head to her breast, he flicked her taut nipple with his tongue before nipping it with his teeth. At her cry he laved it slowly, soothing it with his tongue, and sucked it into his hot mouth.

She leaned her head back against the tile, her eyes closed as she focused on the sensations. Her fingers were unconsciously clutching chunks of his hair, pulling on them sharply with every tug Zach’s lips made on her nipple. Tightening her legs around his waist, she angled her calves under his tight buttocks and dug in her heels, pulling him closer and deeper inside her.

She felt like heaven and hell, all wrapped up into one. Zach couldn’t wrap his mind around the feel of her body surrounding his, the exquisite tightness of her pulsing and moving against him…and drawing him deeper. His lips released her breast and moved up her chest, to stop at her neck, his tongue caressing her rapidly beating pulse. It wasn’t supposed to be like this. Mind-blowing. Heart-stopping. Love-inducing. Love? Where the hell did that come from? He shook his head in denial, and with Kendall’s breathy moan of “More” in his ear, slammed back into her body.

Kendall felt the tiles against her back, sure that the design would be imprinted on her skin in the morning. Her world was rapidly careening out of control, and it was all because of Zach. His touch. His feel. His taste. Every nerve ending in her body was screaming his name and if he didn’t hurry up and quiet each and every one of them she was sure to die.

He swallowed hard when she began to whisper in his ear, the heat of her breath making him shiver. ”I want you, Zach, only you,” she murmured. She felt him stop, his body taut against her. Her tongue began to tease his ear as she continued. “I need you, Zach, my body needs you. I’m begging, Zach.,” she purred. “I’m so close…so close I can feel it.” She undulated her hips as she tightened herself around him. “Mmm…you want that too, Zach. I know you do.”

He stood stock still, afraid to move, lest he explode inside her like a schoolboy. If she kept this up, he wasn’t going to make it. His heart pounded in his chest so loudly that he was sure she could hear it.

Kendall saw the look in his eyes and felt a rush of desire, closing her eyes as he lowered his head towards hers. She waited for a kiss that never came, instead feeling his breath on her ear. “God yes, I want you,” Zach growled in her ear. “And I don’t want you close – I want you there…” he informed her as he angled his hips and drove himself upwards into her body, “with me.”

“A – Ah!” she cried out as she felt him touch deep inside her, feeling the faint stirrings of her orgasm just beyond her reach. “You know what – what I really want, Zach?” she panted, her finger caressing the outer shell of his other ear before trailing it down his neck. Placing her lips next to his ear, she whispered her desire softly, her breath hot. Kendall pulled back to look into his eyes before she continued. “Really…hard.”

Zach sucked in his breath. She wanted what? He squeezed his eyes shut, the visuals her words were creating making it very hard to focus, let alone think. Kendall could see the muscles in his body, visible under the strain as he tried to maintain control. She smiled to herself knowing he was about to lose it.

Never one to back away from a challenge, Zach opened his eyes and smiled knowingly. “Never let it be said that I don’t give a woman what she wants.”
Zach gripped her legs, spreading them open slightly as he slowly withdrew himself from her body, clenching his jaw at the unbelievable friction. Kendall whimpered in frustration and he slowly slid the tip of his shaft back inside her. “What is it you wanted, Kendall? You want it really hard?” he repeated her words, smiling as she squirmed against him, her eyes flashing, as she tried to take him deeper.

The smile slowly faded from his face, his eyes, now black, locked on hers. “Really....hard?" he asked as he slammed himself inside her without any warning. He heard her gasp and watched as her eyes fluttered closed. 'How hard, Kendall?" he repeated, as he withdrew again only to slam himself back inside her. “Is this what you wanted? Is this what you needed?”

“Yes…yes…A – ah! Zach,” she panted, “oh my god, Zach!” Kendall could feel him everywhere, reaching places inside her that no other man had been able to find. Each hard thrust sent her hurtling towards her orgasm only to leave her on the precipice and aching for fulfillment. Her hands trailed down his back, her nails raking his wet skin.

His hungry eyes watched the flush of arousal creeping up her body as he continued burying himself deeper and deeper inside her. Zach groaned as her body took all of him inside, feeling her stretch to accommodate him. He could feel her inner muscles tightening around him, the combination of the pressure and the friction finally snapping his control.

“F*ck Kendall…” he hissed through his teeth, his heart racing. “You want hard, I’ll give you hard…” he groaned as he moved. Zach turned them slightly, putting Kendall directly into the path of the oncoming spray, and heard her scream.

The shock of the cool water hitting her overheated body caused her to stiffen in his arms. She gasped in shock, surprised that the water didn’t sizzle on her skin. “Zach,” she panted. “The water’s-” Kendall’s complaint about the water was never voiced as he covered her mouth with his. Soon the temperature of the water became less important than the fear that he would stop doing what he was doing to her.

She could feel it coming, the elusive orgasm, barreling down upon her almost painful in its intensity and she panicked. Kendall broke the kiss, her head falling back as she tried to control it, slow it down before it consumed her. “Zach,” she whispered, tears filling her eyes. “I- I can’t…” Zach could hear her trying to regulate her breathing, her chest rising and falling erratically.

“Oh, no you don’t…” he murmured under his breath as he cupped the back of her neck to pull her eyes back to his. “Trust me, Kendall,” he whispered. “Yes, you can…” And you will. He watched her eyes widen, her breath hitching in her throat as she realized what he was saying. “You wanted this, Kendall,” he growled, “You begged me for it. You wanted it from me, only me,” he reminded her hoarsely. Zach removed his hand from her neck and ran his fingers down her cheek before tracing them over her swollen lips. “And I’m going to give it to you,” he promised gruffly. “Hell, I’m going to give it to both of us.”

His words aroused her further, her eyes reflecting the need that still held her in its grasp while her body ached for what he promised to give her. She shifted her hips, sucking in her breath as she felt him pulse inside her, causing a quick flash of the intense sensations that threatened to overwhelm her. If she moved, it was all going to be all over.

Zach felt her tense around him, knowing she was still trying to fight her body’s reactions. Catching her gaze, he began to move, effectively taking the decision out of her hands. Harder and harder he pumped himself in and out of her body, groaning as he felt her body clamp down on his and begin to spasm around his rock hard shaft.

Kendall dug her fingers into Zach’s wet shoulders, her short nails piercing his skin. “Za-ach!” she screamed, her body shaking as he continued pounding into her tight, aching body. Zach closed his eyes and swore loudly. Ignoring her protests, he removed his body from hers and set her on her feet, turning her quickly to face the tile. “What are you doing?” she asked breathlessly. Reaching down he grasped her left hand in his and placed her open palm on the wall and covered it with his own. “I’m giving you what you want.” He reached for her right hand and placed it on the wall. “I’m giving you what we both want,’ he growled in her ear as he buried himself inside her.

A tortured groan escaped Kendall’s lips, her head falling back against his strong shoulder. “Oh, God, Zach…” she moaned. Zach thrust again as his fingers entwined tightly with hers. “This is what you want, Kendall, isn’t it?” he rasped as he bent his head and nipped her neck with his teeth. He felt her press back against him, the sexy sound she was making in her throat finding its way to his ears. “Tell me this is what you want,” he said as he caressed her ear with his tongue. When she didn’t answer, he slowly began to withdraw from her snug sheath. “No!” she groaned as her hips moved to search for his. “Say it,” he demanded as he bent his head to the back of her neck and trailed his lips across her shoulder.

Kendall closed her eyes and finally admitted to herself that not only did she want her husband, she needed him as well. Leaning her head back against his shoulder, Kendall opened her eyes and met his hungry gaze. She nodded slowly, her whispered “yes” barely reaching his ears. Zach’s eyes darkened. “Say it.”

That voice. She shivered as it reverberated down her spine. “Yes, Zach,” she admitted, her voice stronger this time. “Yes, this is what I-” Her admission was swallowed by his mouth as his body slid itself into hers.
Zach brought her hands together and secured them with one of his while his other hand slowly slid down the front of her body. He cupped her breast, his thumb flicking over her distended nipple before pinching it between his fingers. Her gasp was lost in his mouth but he felt her body’s reaction as she tightened herself around his hard shaft. His hands continued south, skimming gently over her still-flat stomach and feeling her muscles tremble beneath his fingertips.

Kendall felt his hands move lower to slide between her warm, wet thighs. She shifted slightly, widening her stance to allow Zach to touch her more intimately. His fingers stroked her purposefully as he continued thrusting from behind, the dual stimulation intended to overload her senses. It didn’t take long before he felt her begin to shatter, her body convulsing around his. He felt his own release building as he drove himself inside her, deeper…harder…faster, until his entire world was reduced to the feel of his wife in his arms.

Kendall tore her mouth away from his, gasping for air as her body continued spasming around his. She heard him groan as he exploded inside her, the force of it propelling him against her, and she felt him bury his face in her neck. Zach released her wrists and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her to him as he tried to catch his breath.

Turning around in his arms, Kendall reached up to touch his cheek, her fingers trailing softly over his stubble-roughened cheek. Zach reached up and grasped her hand, bringing it to his lips and gently kissed her palm. He smiled as he watched her green eyes soften and fill with wonder.

His words replayed themselves over and over in her head. “Shut up! Shut your mouth, open your eyes, and see that I care about you.”

“Kendall, I-” he began only to stop when she shook her head.

“Don’t,” she whispered.

“Kendall, I want you to know that I-” he began again hurriedly, attempting to get the words out before she stopped him again. Which she did, this time placing a finger on his lips. He looked at her questioningly.

“Shut up,” she whispered, her green eyes locked on his. She watched as he removed her finger from his lips and opened his mouth to respond, only to have her lean up and cover his lips with hers. Kendall slowly lowered herself back down and traced his lips with her finger. “Shut your mouth, open your eyes…” she whispered softly, smiling as she saw the recognition dawning in his eyes.

“…And see that I care about you too.”
